Life At The Petal Place Property
Life At The Petal Place Property
A free spirit country girl at heart, I felt couped up in the city for too long, I seemingly convinced my husband (without uttering a word) to move to the countryside, in the Summer of 2015, after his job was shipped offshore.
I always wanted land! "Give me land, give me land, give me wide open space. Don't fence me in!" I loved to sing.
We sold all we owned in the city and bought a dilapidated fixer upper in the countryside of Ontario and have been fixing it up ever since. My dream is to transform the 1 acre property into a cottage garden retreat, with flower gardens, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, vines and shrubs, DIY structures and buildings. Subsequently, I am putting in the elbow grease and sharing it all with you in my video journal "Life At The Petal Place Property"

Ahhh such a peaceful oasis. I love it. ❤
It is really lovely, and I love it. 🥰 💗
Amazing work. I look forward to your daily videos.
@@auntiesgarden4592 thank you so much! I appreciate you. I look forward to your lovely interactions. Bless you 🙏❤️
Wow, you are not afraid to use tools. Good for you. I didn't know Goji berried can grow in Canada. I thought they need a warmer climate. 😃
@@MsKleinlaut Nope, not at all. I just try to be as careful as possible. 😀 Red Goji berries are hardy to zones 3 - 9.
Lovely squash and pumpkin! Such AMAZING growth 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Looking forward to seeing your upcoming harvests ❤
@TeaTimeWithTee-dg9iq Thank you! I am looking forward to it too. I hope I will get a healthy harvest. 😊
What a great video Peaches ❤ the garden looks amazing 🎉
@TeaTimeWithTee-dg9iq Thank you! I am working on it. I have spent quite a bit of time building some key structures in the garden. Therefore, the garden dud not get as much attention. However, It is doing good enough. 🙏🥰
I hope you can get water lilies and lily pads.
I think I will!
Have you considered Jerusalem artichokes (Sunchokes)? They grow very well, are high in fibre, easy to cook, and are native.
I do have in a corner on the property. However, I do not have any experience with it, meaning I have never prepared them. Does it have any toxicity?
Wow this is very very nice. Hard work pays off. Beautiful 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
Thank you so much 🤗 Still working on it, with my vision in mind! 🥰
How do you tell the difference between squash and pumpkin by the leaves? I have both and don’t know which is which.
@MartineReed Squash leaves are supposed to be heart-shaped and have smoothe edges with a rough texture to the feel. Pumpkin leaves generally have distinct points (lobes). However, I have found that in my garden, different varieties of squash and pumpkins have a variety of leaf shapes and textures. The most distinct leaves are zucchini.

@@auntiesgarden4592 I certainly will! 🥰❤️
Beautiful flowers. What kind are they? 😊
@@Mylittleveganhomestead Golden Glow Coneflower. 🥰
@@lifeatthepetalplaceproperty Thanks. Now I have to get me some for next season😊
@Mylittleveganhomestead They are very graceful and lovely. I love them in my garden and have them in four areas throughout the garden. For two of the areas, I use metal flashing to control them spreading by the root. However, in the other areas I just let them grow and they haven't spreader too quickly.
Let’s put it this way lol u do not need to go to the gym. This is all the exercise u need. Thank u for taking us along. As always I enjoyed watching. 🥰

I spent one night near Bancroft. The mosquitoes, wew. Too many. I love your garden., The pond is cute. Enjoy - one more month and that is it till next year.
@MsKleinlaut Thank you. evening's are the worst. During the daytime They are not usually out. I am telling myself I have about 6 weeks left. Usually, we do not get frost before about mid September.
Beautiful garden...zucchini looks amazing..

My kids love zucchini fries. I cut it lengthwise season it with salt pepper and paprika toss it in the air fryer or oven. Healthier than French fries. 👍🏾

Wow u are a joy to watch. I would be screaming my head off when I see what the rain did but u are so calm 🤣😂
@ericab936 I know eh. It happens each time we get heavy rain. I guess I have gotten accustomed to it, so I don't allow it to stress me out, at least, not too much. 😊 The most annoying thing right now is the water running from the public road into my driveway and garden. 😔
@@lifeatthepetalplaceproperty hopefully u will find a solution to that one but it seems like it’s not going to be easy 🤔have a lovely weekend 🥰
@@ericab936 thank you. We may have to raise the level of the driveway and garden. 😀
Peaches the weather report you provided was fantastic and award worthy. I felt as if I was there with you. I wish I could get a little of that rain in CA. So sorry for the flowers that got flooded. Maybe their roots will adapt and strengthen up over time to survive those rain storms.. I hope so.
@auntiesgarden4592 you are very kind! I am happy you enjoyed my reporting. 😊 I am tagging the Municipality on the video. Hopefully, they will watch and see what they are doing to my garden/property. I appreciate you. Thanks for being here! Have a wonderful weekend. 🥰
@@lifeatthepetalplaceproperty so glad you are holding them accountable for their decisions and road work. I’m praying that you find favor and they fix the problem and compensate you for any loss.
Looks delicious and very healthy. Good job.🌟
@@MsKleinlaut thank you. Blessings to you. 🥰
When I saw your garden tour I said all that’s missing is a pond. And here u are talking about starting a pond that’s great I’d like to see the finished product. 👍🏾😊
@ericab936 Yes! My sons and husband have already helped me to dig the pond! Of course, I wouldn't mind if it was deeper, but it is manual labour. We do not have any mighty machines, so I am excited to work with what I have. As I love to say, " Work with what you have until you have what you want to work with." Thanks a lot for accompanying me on this journey! I appreciate you. Cheers 🙏🥰❤️

Thank you for posting your gardening tips and tricks. You don't usually find those in magazines or KZread. Greetings from the big smog TO.
@MsKleinlaut you are welcome! I know, eh. I was living in TO, 9 years ago. Sadly it is only getting worse. Maybe the city needs to plant more trees. Stay safe. 🙏

@MsKleinlaut thank you! Hours and hours of garden exercise, but as you rightly said, it is worth it. Hopefully, one day, it will be less work and more puttering about the gardens. 🥰

@ericab936 I take this as a compliment! Thanks for being here. Suppose I tell you I am a trained and certified teacher! Funny, eh. I attended teachers' college in Jamaica and spent some time in the classroom at my high school, Alma Mater, before immigrating to Canada to be with my husband. Watching your container sweet potato project with great interest from WI, zone 5a! 🙂
😊 We are both watching. This is my first time growing sweet slips and planting them in containers. Wait, it is my first time trying sweet potatoes, in our zone 4a garden, period. Please follow along. I will be updating their growth for the rest of the season! I am hoping for the best!
Beautiful!!!
i know, eh. It makes me happy! Thanks! Have a wonderful weekend.
I shop at this store every summer. Gone are the days when B. had only a tiny IGA.
There have been so many changes since we've been here for the last nine years, I can only imagine what it was like then.
You live on a lovely piece of property. The garden is beautiful. Very practical looking. The attice you have shown us, how do you keep this warm during the cold months? Or is it for summer only?
Thank you! We bought this property 9 years ago and moved here from the city. We have come a far way. We actually built the greenhouse/ she shed. The building is only for the warm months. However, I do have an electrical fireplace for the Spring.
I truly enjoyed joining you in your garden and planting the slips. Your peppers will really enjoy the added compost.
Thank you so much! You are very kind. I will surely be doing updates on those peppers. I find that pepper plants from seeds in my zone 4a usually grow very slowly, BUT I have hope! 😊
I love seeing bees in my yard.
For sure, without them, our garden eco system is severely lacking. We need to do all we can to keep the Bee population healthy.
I find your garding interesting. Your garden reminds me of the one we built many many years ago in the Killaloe area (1970). A group of likeminded hippies bought land in the Killaloe and Wilno and Combermere area. We grew beautiful cabbages and drove them to the market every Saturday. Most of us moved back into the city, either Toronto or Ottawa. We are all in our early 80's, mid 80's.
Thank you for sharing this lovely memory. I am familiar with the areas you mentioned, especially Combermere. I am happy my garden brought back such lovely memories for you. My mom and dad are 82 and 83. Bless you! Thanks a lot for being here. Have a great day. 🙏❤️

The idea of canning makes me nervous. I feel like I would somehow give myself food poisoning. I love watching gardening and cooking channels. I didn’t grow up around too much knowledge of either one.
Thanks for being here and for your comment! I get you. It is a bit of a scary thing. I did not grow up with much canning either. The most I grew up with was peppers and carrots in vinegar, plus salted/corned meats. However, I have learned a bit and keep learning, so I have gotten more comfortable with doing canning. I follow a few basic rules and pray for the best! 😊 However, I still do not can as extensively as others do. I also do other methods of preservation, such as freezing and dehydrating. Cheers! 🥰

Welcome to the area! Thanks so much for your support on my channel. I got compost from a local person who makes compost. He does not do compost. However, there is a place on Highway 62, Birds Creek Developing. They sell and deliver mulch. www.birdscreekdeveloping.com/
