I was devastated when Dan passed and for several years could not listen to his music as it was just too hard for me. I only started listening again a few years ago and I'm glad I have. It brought back some of what I was missing. He was just that brilliant and special. You can hear Dan struggling here vocally. I had seen him a half dozen times in the years before, and you can hear his voice isn't as strong in this performance. Cancer is such a cruel disease. It takes away so much from the person who has it and from the people who love them. I lost both my parents to it.

That man is not Dan Fogelberg but an imposter. Dan wasn't performing in '03. His last live performance was in '98. This video was overdubbed. His intro was taken from his 1997 concert.

The man singing is Not Fogelberg, nor are the photos in the TV behind him. Dan never owned a black suit. The lip sync is off. He suffered a stroke in 2001, and all public appearances ended. His last public appearance was in 2000.

THAT man is not Dan Fogelberg, who suffered a stroke in 2001 and pulled away from music. Fogelberg was thin with distinctive facial features. He had a dent in his chin. Never wore a black suit. It's not even Fogelberg's voice. He wasn't raspy.

That's not the real Dan Fogelberg who suffered a stroke in CO in 2001. It messed him up. The guy in the video is hefty. Dan was always a thin guy, never owned a black suit. His last performance was in '98, when he was promoting "Portrait" album, an 18-months tour. The intro is wrong. There was no wife named Jean. Dan was only married twice. "Sometimes a song" was slated for "Windows & Walls," but it lacked the perfection Dan demanded.

He seemed to be struggling vocally in this concert…. He was just finishing his tour….I saw him just a week or so before this in Lake Tahoe and he was in great form. He was one of the greats… was lucky i saw him 3 times..

I can remember seeing him one last time in May of 2003, and said to myself that something was so off, couldn’t get him off of my mind, I felt disappointed because that was definitely not the performance I had remembered from his previous concerts …I see here how he struggled , Then I saw he passed December 17, 2007.. I hope he was at peace when he passed ! Every single album/song remains etched in my teenage memories forever..🩵

That's confusing. Just before performing, he mentions he wrote this when his "first marriage was disintegrating." This song was from an album released in 1981. According to numerous sources, his first marriage is listed as starting in 1982. Was he making a joke? Was he remembering incorrectly? Was he confusing this song with another, maybe the similarly sounding "Make Love Stay?" Are the years of his first marriage incorrect? Oh, well.

I saw Dan during his Acoustic Solo tour of 1982 in November 1982. I wish they had released some of that music. My older sisters all played Dan's music on the piano, so I literally grew up listening to his music.

Today, I find myself reminiscing about my beloved brother, TJ. He left this world too soon, but his memory lives on in our hearts. At his funeral, I made a special request - to have Dan Fogelberg's touching song "The Leader of the Band" played. It perfectly captured the essence of my youngest brother. Unlike the singer in the song, we were raised without a father. However, that didn't hinder TJ's ability to shine as a remarkable father to his two boys. He embodied the love, strength, and guidance that a father should provide, despite not having experienced it himself. TJ may not have possessed a talent for music like the father in the song. Instead, he channeled his creativity and passion into his work as a furniture maker. We even had the privilege of working together, where I witnessed his true superpower. If someone desired their new furniture to match their existing pieces, my brother was a magician. He would visit their homes, carefully examine the surroundings, and return to our shop with a customized wood stain that perfectly matched or beautifully contrasted their décor.

Very few people talk about dans guitar skills. There is no pause in finger picking. No strumming to give your hands a break. The stamina to make it through this song is impressive. My hands start cramping at about the second verse.

I love this song not only bc of the music in me, but bc of all those who came before me and gave me this talent, my father among them. My father, who was a jazz pianist, gave me the gift of music which I heard every day of my life as he played the piano.💖💖💖💖💖🎶💖💖💖💖🎶💖💖💖💖💖

Married 3x… maybe, being a star and always touring, not being there w/ your partner, isn’t something that most couples can endure? I always wonder what would have been if only those that were taken by the big C, especially those variants which today are screened for as part of the annual physical and for which there are now treatments to cure or at least sustain a life of quality and meaning, if only those were better understood 10-20 yrs earlier..,,🙏
