  I assume this closer to the original performance practice than most recorded performances. But I must say that I do love the overwhelming onslaught of glory and greatness that Richter created with this piece. I like both approaches. And this here is certainly much closer to what we would have seen in church back then.

  Best Hagen EVER. And not a single Gibichung is armed with a rifle; arming them with a mixture of weapons from 5th century Gemania and late 19th century is way beyond stupid. Bester Hagen aller Zeiten. Und kein einziger Gibichung ist mit einem Gewehr bewaffnet; Sie mit einer Mischung aus Waffen aus dem 5. Jahrhundert und dem späten 19. Jahrhundert zu bewaffnen, ist mehr als dumm.

  Un grande, che come tutti i grandi non aveva inutili pose melodrammatiche. Ultimamente anche tra gli strumentisti se ne vedono di carnevalate idiote. Però a quanto pare sono sempre piaciute. Un critico dell'epoca vedendo Bach suonare si stupì che muovesse solo mani e braccia rimanendo col busto immobile...

  @@SeverusSnape70 anch'io, allievo di scuola russa degli anni '60 sostengo il "vecchio" modo di suonare, impassibile, ma che nella sua pietrificazione riesce ad esprimere meglio da punti di vista tecnici ed espressivi il testo musicale. E sì, rivolgiamo un ricordo a Schreier, morto lo scorso Natale. E pensare che quando ascoltai il Rienzi di Hollreiser, dove egli cantava la parte di Baroncelli, mi ero riproposto di cercare in ogni modo di incontrarlo. Che peccato

  @@Francys5FS La stessa cosa è capitata a me con Sviatoslav Richter e Gustav Leonardt. Li ho sentiti in concerto qui a Firenze e tutte e due le volte ho pensato: " La prossima volta che torna ci vengo di sicuro!" Invece poi sono morti e non li ho potuti più sentire. Due concerti indimenticabili!

  He makes it sound and look so easy. I'm working on this piece right now for a concert in December, and it's a monster, as are just about all of Bach's arias. This is some of my favorite music in the whole world, and I hope that more people can be exposed to it's awesomeness.
