Would there be distinctions between the conscience and Spirit working upon a heart, or would you say the Spirit works to create a healthy God centered conscience?

Thank you for uploading. This was a great sermon and we need more thoroughly exegetical teachings for new believers from a reformed perspective. Unfortunately, verse by verse teaching is dominated by arminian, dispensational teachers out there on the web - that's why it's so wonderful to find messages like this!

If Paul is writing Romans 7 as a Christian and his struggle against sin, then had the "law of the spirit of life in Christ set him free from the law of sin and death"? Apparently not.

32:00 I’m just thinking, if no one was saved, God would seemingly get no glory out of creation, in fact, if Jesus died and none were saved some how, he’d seemingly get less than if there were no creation. So the more he saves, the more glory is received, because there’d be more people to work for his glory and to praise him, yet, since he planned all of creation and all things work for his purposes, love also being magnified through the thorns, he still gets glory. I’m not sure it’d be mandatory that he get maximum glory out of creation, cause somehow there’d have to hit a seesaw balance point, that if he save one more, somehow that’d be worse for him, so his love and will is just based off of his love for himself, plus he doesn’t need praise.

There must be something wrong w me. I don't like Pilgrims Progress. Or any allegorical story. It gets in the way in my mind of the original truth. Many love it and that is great. For me ...I read John Owen and Jonathan Edwards freely with understanding. But Bunyon.....nope.....thoughts?

35:30 Was this a natural inclination purely on the fact there was no sin and now we are surrounded by bad choices and temptations, or is our desire changed somehow as if we’d fall more easily if Adams surroundings pre fall were ours? Maybe I could put that better, but hopefully someone can get what I’m saying.

I remember asking my mother if she’d ever read Pilgrim’s progress and her opinion of it. She said she couldn’t really understand it. That disappointed me as I felt that I was beginning to understand it. Grace abounding to the chief of sinners is another great book of Bunyan’s and one that I really needed right at the time I was given it from the attic by my brother, where the book had lain since long before I was born. (Providence?).

Spiritual Surrender: Initial Appraisals of Cancer Diagnoses in Black Christian Women New Article February 2024Journal of Black Psychology M. Elizabeth Lewis HallGrace E. LeeJason McMartin[...]Eric J. Silverman The meaning-making model proposes that distress results from discrepancies between one’s global meaning system and one’s situational appraisals of negative life events. This model suggests a preventative function for religion when religious global beliefs inform situational appraisals in ways that minimize distress. Using consensual qualitative research, we evaluated the initial reactions to a cancer diagnosis of 29 Black Christian women. We examined how the women appraised the cancer diagnosis and how this appraisal was related to reported distress. Our results indicated that lower levels of distress were related to believing that God was faithful, while higher levels of distress were related to beliefs in retributive justice and cancer as a death sentence. Lower distress was further related to spiritual surrender, a religious coping practice that combines entrusting the outcome of one’s cancer experience to God and actively pursuing treatment. We discuss spiritual surrender as a collaborative religious coping strategy and highlight its importance in informing culturally sensitive psychological interventions. 11 Reads An Overview of Natural, Human, Philosophical, and Theological Dualisms New Chapter January 2024 Mark Graves Dualism divides something into two contrasted aspects. This chapter focuses on the division itself and the places and ways in which that division occurs in similar ways across different types of dualism. Drawing upon a scientific and religious examination of nature, of human existence, and of human experience of those realities, Graves uses a systems approach to organize five common types of division. The relative emphases placed on the different divisions by various dualisms and monisms classifies these philosophical and theological positions for systematic study. 3 Reads Perfect believer concepts and well-being among Buddhists, Christians, and Muslims in China New Article January 2024Mental Health Religion & Culture ChingYing LinEsther TanKenneth T. Wang 9 Reads Christian Mindfulness and Global Public Health: A Commentary and Agenda New Article Full-text available January 2024Mindfulness David C Wang In response to Oman’s “Mindfulness for global public health: Critical analysis and agenda,” this commentary explores and develops the global public health implications of mindfulness as it is understood and practiced within the context of global Christianity. Because Christianity is a global religion, with the majority of its adherents now residing outside North America and Western Europe, efforts to engage and contextualize mindfulness to Christian audiences must take seriously the diverse spiritualities and sociocultural realities reflected in global Christian communities. To this end, this commentary explores both contemporary and ancient Christian contemplative practices, with special attention to Christian practices originating outside of Western contexts (e.g., John Cassian, Evagrius of Pontus, and Anthony De Mello). Key considerations with respect to the content, goals, and concepts at play in the contextualization of mindfulness for global Christian audiences are discussed in detail. A central consideration concerns the tension between the Transcendent and the therapeutic, as the practice of Christian contemplation traditionally is tied to the ultimate goal of union with God. Despite the many challenges that may complicate this contextualization work, the potential positive implications on global public health along with interreligious peacemaking and bridge-building make this a worthwhile endeavor nonetheless. 15 Reads Nuevo Mundo Theology as a Latinx Decolonial Response to the Global Crisis in Theological Education New Chapter December 2023 Oscar García-Johnson This chapter offers two main arguments. First, it argues how global theological education’s crisis is predicated on Western theological education’s epistemic crisis. Here the American Global South, which refers to the various Americas constructed across colonial projects (indigenous, African, European, Asian, hybrid, and diasporic), is used as a case study to situate the crisis and imagine a possible solution. Two, it re-introduces the concept of Nuevo Mundo as a biblical-theological horizon for re-theologizing the Americas before and beyond the imperial logic of colonial modernity and its westernizing Christian eschatology. Here I will also present the project Teología del Nuevo Mundo to propose an autochthonous decolonial theologizing as a response to the global crisis in theological education. Larger hippocampal and temporal lobe volume may associate with early rapid forgetting in cognitively healthy individuals with a predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease New Article December 2023 Shant RisingRachel WooAnne Allison Turk Nolty[...]Xianghong Arakaki Background Growing need exists to link volumetric brain analysis to functional cognitive performance in early prediction of Alzheimer’s disease. Method In cognitively healthy older adults ( N = 40; M age = 71.7±7.7 years), we established amyloid/tau ratios from cerebrospinal fluid, thus finding a small group with pathological amyloid/tau ratios (PAT, n = 11) and normal ratio (NAT, n = 29). Approximately 40% of the PAT group were expected to convert to mild cognitive impairment within 4 years. It was hypothesized that reduced performance on the California Verbal Learning Test‐II (CVLT‐II) Short Delay Free (SDFR) and Cued Recall (SDCR) task would be associated with smaller hippocampal and temporal lobe volume (obtained via NeuroQuant). Result Hippocampal total, left, and right percentiles were found to be negatively associated with SDFR in the PAT group, r (38) = ‐.67*, ‐.66*, and ‐.63*, but not in the NAT group, r (38) = ‐.21, ‐.04, and ‐.35, such that a larger hippocampus was associated with fewer remembered words after a short delay on a list learning task in those with pathological amyloid/tau ratios. Temporal lobe volume was also found to be negatively associated with SDFR and SDCR in the PAT group, r (38) = ‐.67* and ‐.69*, but not in the NAT group, r (38) = ‐.36 and ‐.34, such that a larger temporal lobe was associated with fewer remembered words after a short delay on a list learning task (even when cued) in those with smaller amyloid/tau ratios. Two hierarchical multiple regression analyses, one including amyloid/tau ratio and the other including amyloid only, found that age and sex associate with ∼20.4% variance of the performance on the CVLT‐II SDFR task while temporal lobe volume increased associative value by 16.1% in the former [F (1, 35) = 8.871, p < .05] and by 15.4% in the latter [F (1, 35) = 8.430, p < .05]. Conclusion Our findings suggest there may be early compensation in brain structures among cognitively healthy individuals whose CSF biomarker suggest increased risk for the development of symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease, such that hippocampi and temporal lobes increase in size during early pre‐Alzheimer’s stages despite reduced performance on memory tasks. 3 Reads Amyloid ratios in plasma and CSF are biomarkers of pre‐symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease New Article December 2023 Alfred N FontehXiaomeng WuNatalie Astaea[...]Xianghong Arakaki Background The CSF amyloid to tau ratio can isolate c ognitively h ealthy participants into n ormal A β 42 / t au (CH‐NAT) or a p athological A β 42 / t au (CH‐
