BladeFit Academy

BladeFit is a great fitness adventure! It is the modern rebirth of ancient martial movements, taken from the great warriors of old. In a man's time of greatest need, his sword was his truest companion when all else had failed. These warriors moved with such skill, the world even today marvels at the beauty and power of the sword. Sword training has an amazing pedigree starting at least 5000 years ago. BladeFit unlocks these ancient movements for a modern age, awakening the power of the ancient blade against contemporary foes, stress, obesity, inactivity, despair, and navery. Blade Fit has molded these complex moves into simple steps, taking away the need for years of training under the careful eye of a sword master. I invite you to take up the sword with me and wield it in the cause of good health. Please help me and share these videos to all who want to experience a fun way to be fit.

    First, the legs can't be too long. They need play room at the inside part of the tread. Next you preassemble the legs together. Back out the screws of one leg, insert assembly pieces inside the tire, then screw them together inside.

    Not exactly how it was done back in 2007 :-) You holding it too high. It is tiring and not so useful. Head is where your helmet are. It is the most, and for the time of kite shields - the only part of You, protected by though metall. You DO want to take strikes on your head, and DO NOT want to open your legs. 2/3 of Wysby deads have shinbone slashed, cavalry and infantry alike.

    If you're fighting 1v1 it's different than on the line. 1v1 you use distance (or measure) to protect your legs. You don't take a hit on your head as the blow still rings your bell and the chance of the spear, ax, sword striking an eye, jaw or open mouth is a real risk. Are you really just going to let your head take a hit? No, you're not. If the shield is too heavy, then get in better shape and use a lighter shield. Use footwork to control distance. If you're legs are open to attacks then you're not using the shield correctly. You are too close and your angles are wrong.

    @@BladeFitAcademy well, back in 2000th we done our LARP with aluminium swords "100g lighter than real one and 3cm wide point". Never saw an eye or mouth hit in helmet: Pothelm/Topfhelm just as vashelm just as "steroid" viking helm with chaimail aventail has good enough face protection. Knee trauma on the other hand was a thing, treyd on both side: done and have. Yes I do take a sword blow with my helmet, which is good enough btw for freaking poleaxe :-) No bells if helm done properly. Back in time they sew that padding cap inside for a reason. Well head also can be defended with sword, shieldfightnig is all about level changing so it might be good to have one on top and one down. Opponent will come for your legs, and believe me YOUR legs are open. Especially for longer stuff like spears and daneaxes. Thoose also best at rippng knee tendons. Well this is my pre-HMB 20year obsolete point of view. P.s. mind also helmet sorta deny you from see lower level and keepeng shield high yu not onle leave low level defenseles, but also preventing yourself to see any left that helmet doesnt prevent. Shield high position good for charging for their legs, but not to stay in. Viking shields and targes and bucklers may made differnt story , but doors and kites made for more calm work. shield low sword in st. George and good to go.

    Im sure you had figured it out already - but for me anything else than slightly diagonal upward facing straps feels very unwieldy for fighting as infantry... :) maybe vertically straight up straps those also arent bad but thats more rigid and would be uselessfor cavalry. Those shileds were ment to be usefull for cavalry and infantry alike. Riders would probably use horizontal straps-

  • @BladeFitAcademy
    @BladeFitAcademy3 ай бұрын

    Yes, they are my terms. Keep in mind this is an exercise system, not a martial arts system. Firing the muscles will be different so even if I chose to use, as an example "from Vom Tag launch uberhau," then it still wouldn't convey the correct way to swing. Thus the easiest way to cut through all that confusion is to use different names.

    This was very good - well presented. Plus timely. I am in the process of assembling a short spear (6 feet; 2 meters) for hallway defence in a non gun area. I was wondering how to go about incorporating a shield and this is so helpful. Now all I have to do is make it bulletproof and light weight. Oh, yes ... they get to have guns ...

  • @BladeFitAcademy

  • @BladeFitAcademy

    That boils down to personal preference. The horizontal grip is historical and best for cavalry action on a horse. But on foot it's also fine. Shield hand moves around as needed no problem.

  • @BladeFitAcademy

    It's closer to 900g the 3bar. These are not light dueling sabers. They hold up very well and can go against other heavier swords with confidence. I know mine has really held up and is still like new minus some normal dings.

    Kudo for the DIY with the dual straps and padding to demonstrate an interesting application of I33 using a heater shield. 👍 Regarding the lack of padding for the arm on the inside of the shield, if mail shirts were common at the time it was in use then a gambeson/doublet + mail might've provided sufficient padding, so instead you'd prefer to leave plenty of space and freedom of movement to easily slide the arm through the strap, so maybe that's why (leather) padding was eschewed. Any such padding also might also become quickly worn down by abrasion against the mail. Just a cosmetic observation, but the bulky, glaring, red leg armor doesn't suit the rest of you outfit, so it might be better reserved for sparring. 😁For demos, perhaps some dark leggings would look better and possibly also allow you to move more easily?
