After Terry Kaths incredible stuff heavenly obscured with interruptions, All the sudden Peter cetera's vocals are loud, not obscured at all. G, do you think someone's trying to control popularity?!!

Dont hate them for their later hits, they had to reinvent themselves to earn a living and they were able to do that.

My older sisters would always play Chicago when I was a kid. I was born in 69. And that whole time I was in elementary I thought the lead singer was a black man. That's how much soul Terry Kath sang with. I was a child thinking he was black...I had no idea...lol

You could hear the sarcasm before the song. I wonder if it was Cetera that told Pankow to shut up. The song that divided the band. Kath refused to help record it.

It was Danny who said that. Terry did not refuse to record it, the recording was done by JWG when the rest of the band was not in the studio.

Pure pleasure seeing terry kath: love opening jazz oriented sequence, when terry died he along with cetera were talking about leaving chicago:kath had a hendrix fixation, wanted the 3 piece power trio, peter knew he could write better than lamm, lamm didnt like it:lamm didnt want cetera doing solo work:terrys death prompted the enevitable, chicago was done when kath blew his head off:why he lost track of the chamber ordeal:hand gun, probably cocaine:

A true classic to have all these bands together (and Olivia). too bad no Tom Johnston ( picked up Micheal shortly after this) and no Brian but Dennis did a great job singing Brian's parts

Criminally underrated. It's often said that if he wasn't in a "horn band" he would be regarded as one of the top 10 guitarists of all time. Chicago has been great over the years...But this early stuff with Terry Kath is NEXT LEVEL

This is the best song Peter ever wrote. Terry plays bass here and he was a bass player in the band he, Danny, and Walt were in before The Big Thing.

Terry Kath has been my favorite rock and roll guitarist since I first heard Chicago (then called Chicago Transit Authority) back in the early 70’s. As a musician, I can hear the logic and structure in his solos!! And, of course, as a trumpet player, I loved that Chicago was a rock and roll band with horns!! In case Michelle sees this comment, Jimi Hendrix was right-Michelle’s dad was THE BEST rock and roll guitarist EVER-PERIOD.

Quick story I saw Chicago 1970 July at Tanglewood I was 15 at that time. Also that's when Joshua television recorded that footage of that show. My older brother also shot 8 mm movies of that.show. quick note Terry was awesome. Head pretty much front row seats.

Also if ya dig this song by Chicago on youtube you may enjoy Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band. I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and also read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on KZread. 😀

Question I never knew the answer to; What guitar did he play on “Liberation”? To this day for me it is the greatest extended guitar solo in rock history.

I think CTA had a massive influence on the music after the 70's, at that time major known bands were based on the same structure, CTA was absolutely new (incorporating horns keyboard and guitars), and also the rythm was amazing (a mix of free jazz, RB, soul and of course rock music). They were visionaries.
