    I played basketball for almost 4 years now, I have a thin frame and an average height in my city 5'7 18 years old and I haven't seen any improvements in my game even though I practice all the time. I have a problem lining up my shots, I always get flamed missing open shots in crucial minutes of the game, I always get put at the small forward position and got used to it. I'm not a good shooter and ball handler, I always find purpose from doing screen and drop passes across the lane while attempting a lay up. What can you suggest me to do to become a better player in general and have some purpose on the court?

    I mean, the point of offense is scoring. If you don't contribute points to the board, you're a liability to a point. I agree with everything you said here.

    I'm confused on what to work on to get better overall. I am 14 years old and i know decently what i am better at, but i mainly have to train and research alone. In live practice i play worse than when I'm relaxed and just playing let's say 1 on 1 with my friend. What should i do?

    I think like LeBron says on mind the game, you need to have bball iq and it's something you need to study especially longevity. To owners and coaches, they see you as part of the chess piece and how to fit in the whole board. So why not learn the whole board Why is Draymond still in the league despite his lack of "skill". Coz he knows the plays. Learning the plays, games is highly beneficial

    the thing that helped me most about this video is "it's just basketball, have some fun." currently am 12 years old 5'10 220 lbs and on a team and I struggle with pressure and knowing how to actually understand things on the court like press and defence or where am supposed to be at times. Since am a bigger person then my age group I fall into the center or power forward category. But I am a lot better at shooting, step backs, ball handling, and just passing. Your videos have helped me a lot and I appreciate you passing on your advice and information you have gained through all your years of your basketball carrer. I'll keep all these methods in mind when my next practice game arrives or even any game in general.

  • @TuckerRichardson
    @TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын

    You should not be putting pressure on yourself at 12 years old to do anything. At that age, it is about finding your love and passion for the game, and working everyday to improve. Seems like you are on the right path!

    How can I stay composed and with confidence when I don’t make my first couple of shots in a game. Like if I start with a make I’ll carry that confidence throughout the game, but sometimes when I miss my first couple of shots I start doubting and I stop being aggressive or asking for the ball. Any tips?

  • @TuckerRichardson
    @TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын

    It is all about staying in the moment and just focusing on the next play or next shot. When you realize that everyone on the court misses shots all the time, and that no one is thinking about your misses or makes, it will free you up to make more mistakes. You can't play basketball without knowing you are going to miss shots, so just embrace it and make the next one!

    The problem with this selfish/unselfish talk is that it's not always the best players with the ball. We have kids trying to shoot against 4 defenders while the rest of the team stand wide open. That is when I tell my kids to not be selfish. Not when they are aggresive and putting pressure on defenses. Even then, if they are driving into a wall of people and there's an open player right next to them ready to shoot, I expect them to make the pass rather than try to hit a layup into 3 defenders. The aggressiveness was good, then they just need to stop being selfish and let the team score. Often time with kids the selfishness causes them not to be succesful which in turn plays with their motivation to play. I want the kids to learn to make the correct play, which will also lead into team success, thus making basketball more fun for everyone. If one player is always the one handling the ball, the other players don't have an opportunity to develop. Aggressiveness is a good thing, selfishness is not.

  • @TuckerRichardson
    @TuckerRichardsonАй бұрын

    Yes I agree, my whole point is that sometimes telling kids to not be selfish can make them think that being aggressive is selfish. That is why I try and separate the two things, just like you are talking about. Appreciate the comment!

    @@TuckerRichardson that's true. Coaches should always make sure they're being thorough explaining things to young players, not just throw misinterpretable sentences around. Appreciate your videos and best of luck in the playoffs!
