Eden Ahbez - Full Moon To live in an old shack by the sea And breathe the sweet salt air To live with the dawn and the dusk The new moon and the full moon The tides, the wind and the rain ... To surf and comb the beach And gather sea shells and driftwood And know the thrill of loneliness And lose all sense of time And be free To hike over the island to the village And visit the market place And enjoy the music and the food and the people And do a little trading And see the great ships come and go And, man, have me a ball And in the evening, when the sky is on fire Heaven and earth become my great open cathedral Where all men are brothers Where all things are bound by law And crowned with love Poor, alone and happy I walk by the surf and make a fire on the beach And as darkness covers the face of the deep Lie down in the wild grass And dream the dream that the dreamers dream I am the wind, the sea, the evening star I am everyone, anyone, no one

There are four white walls in every damn hotel A light by the bed, stains on the floor And it's here I will wait out the storm Killing time on the fringes again Before the leaving, before the leaving There are big trucks that wind and I'd trade them for ours Side by side, we pass through towns we'll never see And it's here I will wait out the storm Killing time on the fringes again Before the leaving, before the leaving There are red velvet seats in the windowless rooms A curtain to draw, and faces to please And it's here I will wait out the storm Killing time on the fringes again Before the leaving, before the leaving Tarmac the freight, fortress the fate Scarlet red leaves, the cobblestone streets The city, the field, the channel, the cape The smell of cold smoke tunnels through slate It's all brought us back Now there's wood that you stacked And it's on our front porch And it's staring me down And it tells me you left...

How is it that I've never heard of Alela Diane until I Shazamed this memorable last song on the fabulous Game of Thrones documentary (and I've never seen the underlying how many seasons? *8??!!!). Anyway, this is a delightful find, and I cant' believe the haunting harmony on the pre-chorus. I'm playing it over and over again. Now I've got to purchase her entire catalog and spend the day listening closely. Such a plaintive and sensitive voice and presentation. Best artist I've heard this year.

Same here. When hearing the song on The Last Watch documentary I had to look the singer up. She is terrific. Another one of her songs, "Oh My Mama", was used on a TV ad, but can't remember the product. Adela Diane has been around for a while. Shame that talent like hers never gets recognized.

"She has suspected it all along, and now she knew. He was a coward. A coward dressed in the uniform of a brave man. Brave enough to cross two oceans and continent to find her, but in the end, he was terrified. He was terrified of her, to lie beside her, to be comforted by her as he wept, to show her he was small, for her to know that and touch his cheek and whisper words softly in his ear. All of that was a nightmare. All he knew to do was run. He took a deep breath of the air, tasting salt on his tongue and closed his eyes leaning into the spray as the Merciful picked up speed and sailed into the horizon. He was alone, and all was well."

Listening to this again after two years I finally understood how music is made - you are just playing out a story, what you felt. With this one, there are two levels for me - the first is the emotional musicscape of the composer, the second is what I felt and lived two years ago.

This has to be one of my favorite pieces of music yet. There are no words, yet it tells a story very loud and clear. My interpretation is as follows: The beginning of the song starts with rain and thunder, soon an you can hear an instrument in the distance. This is symbolic of a voice crying out but is unheard, due to the sounds of rain and thunder in the foreground. This distant “voice” is carried throughout most of the song and can be heard in the background. more on that later. Soon a violin starts playing in the foreground, this is another voice, a voice crying for help. Eventually an orchestra builds up in the background, foreshadowing the voices you’ll hear next. The orchestra comes into the foreground along with the violin. This orchestra can either be interpreted as a group of voices, or one voice saying many things. Later afterwards the orchestra takes over and the violin stops. So far it the story is that someone in need of help has been heard, and this orchestra that takes over is representative of their actions taken to “help.” I put help in quotations as soon after the same voice appears with the same tone, showing that whatever was done has helped the voice one bit. A few moments later the violin changes in tone and the orchestra crescendos, this could be seen as a sudden scene of conflict, the result of the conflict soon apparent after the orchestra takes over, and STAYS for the remainder of the song. So what happened? Someone needed help and was betrayed, they soon figured it out and became a conflict with the person or group of people helping the other person, after which they “silence” the voice of the other person forever. Now where does the background voice from the beginning of the song come in? The background voice is a warning of what was to come. The rain and thunder is a representation of the orchestra covering up their previous actions to the background voice. The best part about all this is that once you listen to it multiple times, you’ll start to realize that the foreground voice crying for help becomes the background warning voice from the last time you listened to it.
