I sew a LOT. I make wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses and am trained to cut my own sewing patterns to match a drawing or photograph. I find machine sewing on crochet very difficult because it stretches so much and gets pushed by the presser foot. You did a great job and have good tips. 2 more tips: If your machine has the ability to reduce downward pressure of the presser foot, do that. Also a walking foot designed for quilting can help.

I sewed crocheted aran wt sleeves on a denim jacket w a viking 960 (old but TOL) nothing broke but ugh! Trying to get the fabric to move along. Luckily, the sleeves were a varigated yarn and sew was the thread, do it didnt look too bad (though it was, but that was the sewist!).

Yesterday I got a 1921 Singer treadle machine. Mine needs the cabinet refinished and the machine cleaned. New belt and rubber for the bobbin winder will finish it off. I am not going to make it look "new".

That is so awesome. She's absolutely beautiful. I just bought her sister, also a 1910 Singer model 66. Unfortunately mine has quite a bit of rust and needs some TLC. On the plus side, mine is in a lovely cabinet that features 3 drawers on each side and one in the center. Parts are due next week, and I'll print off the owner and maintenance manuals so hubby can get her singing. Congratulations on your beauty.

The front drawer is for your thread. The idea was that at the time (1920s), you wouldn't own a lot of thread because it was expensive. You also couldn't really buy spools that were larger than the drawer unless you were sewing for a company. Some fun facts for your! Also you machine is beautiful!

Your tomato won’t be as likely to swallow your sewing needles if you leave a little leftover thread hanging from the eye.
