I'm going through this right now with my 73 super. I found a donor car on my bug guy friends garage. I managed to get both sides literally cutting both from the window. the roof of it was floating in midair when I left. you are right, they don't make those panels. the funny thing is that is very common rust spot for the 70s bugs. the reason they rusted there was that Volkswagen put expanding foam in that area and it trapped moisture in there

Thanks for checking out my video. I purchased this car totaled in 1999 for $1400 and did everything except the body and paint work myself so I don't have that much into it. The nice thing about these first gen Barracuda's is you can still buy them pretty cheap and you just see them very often like the mustangs and camero's

I’m confused, the last regular SuperBeetle was sold in 1974. 1975 had the special edition la Grande Bug, available in metallic gold, blue, and green. Only the standard Beetle was sold in 75 and 76, with the Super Beetle Convertible sold until 1979. This must have originally been a le Grande Bug, repainted yellow. It has the sunroof that came with the LGB, as well as the rosewood dash. Other things that came standard on the special edition LGB was upgraded upholstery, leatherette and corduroy, a custom gear shift knob, and rack and pinion steering. Do you know the cars history?
@busteddrones2302 Жыл бұрын
I don't know any history, it had been setting for many years when I purchased it. it is a repaint and is kinda a light metallic green under, the back seat had a kinda tan houndstooth print under the current black cover. guess I better do some investigating. Thanks for the info, it would be cool if it is something special

You were obviously not taking it on long runs often enough or were running it on dirty fuel.

@@mothmagic1 in 1975 VW blamed the fuel, it was just bad engineering. I drove from Washington state to South Carolina that year. Had 4 sets of injectors under warranty. I love the La Grand bug (sun roof nice cloth interior seats etc) it just didn’t love me back.

Too funny, I also had my sailboat (a Catalina 22) on site 22 a couple summers ago. Such a great spot! Except for a hellacious, overnight thunderstorm that I was worried was going to blow my boat into the adjacent wall of rocks. Thankfully the beach anchor + stern anchor held.

We have been there several time and have experienced those midnight storms. The kids were staying in a tent and had to set in the corners to keep from blowing away. That is like the best spot ever

@@busteddrones2302 It definitely is the best spot, which is probably the reason we couldn't book it this year, despite trying right when reservations open. We're staying on the other side of the island instead, which also seems to be the leeward side of the island in those crazy storms. Here's to hoping!
