I personally don't feel bothered about the age gap people complain about in this particular movie. Its fantasy aura and the character of the king feels very otherwordlly, like he can look older but we could never know his age because there is none, he is a frozen book character. Also, there is absolutely no sexual tension between the characters nor insinuation of it. The "love" Jareth has feels more like a devotion, and it works, considering the movie genre and the actors age. Kind of reminds me of the Phantom of the Opera and Christine dynamics. Phantom kidnaps Christine to keep her close and there is no sexual or physical violence commited against her, just fascination over her.

I’m the same, and given his leggings and horrendous ‘80s hair I never used to understand why. But I now realise how unbelievably attractive his character is, his performance is, and his blind devotion to Sarah is (am choosing to ignore the fact she’s 15!)

its not about a women not needing a man. The antagonist reprents clearly without a doubt time and the wordly illusions that control her. At the end she recognizes that her inner power/kingdom is greater than all that. With that they tried to mean the power of the spirit/soul of oneself. With that realization of her instead that the clock goes again in a neverending loop to hour 1 ,the 13 hour strikes - Enlighment, Ascension. All his illusions collapse. It is is portrait in soo many films like Dark City, flashback (2020), Truman show, 13th Floor, the Matrix. These are very gnostic films. This is one of the most important topics you will ever know. Because you will realize that this world is a lie (which they show us as hints like these).

Most of the comments in this video are funny, but then there are those that idk if they’re for real or not. Yes, Jareth is hot but it makes complete sense why Sarah didn’t accept his offer, and she’s not crazy for it. He was trying to control her the entire time he had her brother hostage, whether she wished for it or not. I’m pretty happy she said no, since it wouldn’t have made any sense otherwise.

Jareth is clearly reflected in the crystal that contains her dreams. Even when he first offers her the crystal with her dreams it also had Jareth’s reflection in it. But she made the right choice. Girl power! 👏 That line “You have no power over me” is actually so powerful if you truly mean it.
