I was born in 1969. The Ford Cobra was my absolute dream car as a 10 year old
XD was also available as a utility, panel van and long wheel base Fairlane and LTD models.
Did he just say Holden Torano?
Hello and I know it's spelt "Torana", but this is my London accent getting the best of me. Thanks,
Grew up with xt ute,my own xy ute 2v 4 speed. My grandfathers xw sedan bench column shift and only had to let go of an xw wagon 2 years ago 😢. But the xb, xc coupe was and always will be the dream car❤
Darren, hello and totally agree, the XA, XB and XC 2-door Coupes were definitely the cars to have.
What a load of cobras
Paul hello and thanks, indeed a lot of Cobra's 4.9 and 5.8's
this is far better looking than anything ford north america made in 78 by a landslide
Hello and Thanks for your Comment, I agree, all that was available and similar at that time was the LTD II.
I'm very lucky to be the caretaker of Cobra number 355 that's all original and unrestored which is in Immaculate condition here in Pennsylvania USA from what I found out so far there's only two in the United States and the other one is not roadworthy so it is definitely a very very rare car to begin with but here in the United States it's definitely a unicorn and people just go crazy over it when I take it the shows I do have to say one thing these cars handle and drive incredible far out classing anything built in America in this era
Hello and Thanks for your Comment and telling me about your Cobra.
I had a Cobra about 30 years ago…. I wish I never sold it.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment.
Ferd XD
The XD's were Okay, but I myself much preferred the 2-Door Coupes of the XA, XA & XC series.
V8, eh? Last of the interceptors?
Hello and Thanks for your Comment, it really was.
Great video,thanks very much.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment, it is much appreciated.
My uncle bought number 124 brand new. Wish he still had it. Not all cobras were 351 either. Half of them were the 302
Steve, Hello and Thanks for your Comment. That would have been a Car to have now. Cheers.
Less than 40 were 351's actually, so over 300 where 302 Cleveland powered. Only the 351 had the extra scoop on the bonnet.
5.4 liters is 331 cubic inches, not 302.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment. You're Right about the Litres to Cubic Inches, but regarding the 2007 Falcon, this applies to its Power and not its capacity. It was 302kw or 405hp. They wanted to keep the 302 Moniker as a connection to the Original Falcon. Hope this clears things up.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment. If you are talking about the Option 97 Cars, which were 351 (5.8) with Bonnet Scoops, that's right, but from my references, they produced 30 cars (No's 2-31). Hope this helps.
No Mad Max themed versions of these cars? Wouldn't they have flown right off the dealers lots?
Hello and Thanks for your Comment. I agree, Ford missed a trick there, because if that had brought out Mad Max Versions, I am sure that these would have sold like hot cakes.
Probably too worried after Ford got reamed when the "supercar scare" hit the headlines. That was their biggest issue as you can see HP figures are well down from the XY GTHO days
Had an 80 Mk 2? Beautiful car in red. The way the headlights were partially covered by the hood was awesome. 2.0 V6 was bad either. Had her doing 145 mph (234 kph) downhill with a tailwind on the Autobahn once. Normally topped out at 197 kph. Fun car
Hello and Thanks for Your Comment. I had a Mk1 Capri many years ago and spent most of my time driving sideways. If you had the 2.0 V6, you must have got that in Europe?
@@WheeleyInteresting Yes, I was living in Germany back in 86-87
The true dual exhaust was awesome and so was the gear drive cam and solid lifters. Sounded like a jet engine at high rpm, which is where I kept it.
Yup those 351s sure used to sound good idling at the lights with the air sucking through those 4 barrel carbs.
Steve, Hello and Thanks for your Comment. Those V8's do Sound Good.
Never heard of a Holden Tarno
Hello and Thanks for your Comment. I know the Spelling is "Torana", but I am afraid that this is my London accent kicking in.
@@WheeleyInteresting You sound like a bot voice...why not at least try to find an Australian in a London pub to narrate this Aussie focused vid?
John, Hello and Thanks for your Comment. That's the sound of Concentration, but I will try to do better next time.
We Owned cobra number 347 never should have sold the old girl...😭😭😭
We Owned cobra number 347 never should have sold the old girl...😭😭😭
Hello and Thanks for your Comment. The really would have been a Car to Keep.
XD Falcons were also available as a ute and panel van
Chris, Hello and Thanks for your Comment. That's interesting, I didn't know that.
@@WheeleyInteresting You in Australia? If you were you would likely know this.
@@WheeleyInteresting All Australian Falcons had an option as a ute or panel van from XK-XF then XG looked like a XF but had EB and ED running gear. The the XH which had EF running gear, And look like a EF from the firewall forward.
And yet you didn't mention the gxl, which was essentially a GT in disguise 😉
not quite. more of a tourer, really.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment and point made.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment and Point.
Holden had to do a similar thing to flog off 600 their unloved two door body shells. Theirs was called the Holden LE coupe and it was pretty much a fully loaded two door limo. Chrysler where the only ones to have any real success in this market with their Charger.
I remember a shearer owning one of these ... i felt truly sorry for that LE coupe, from the flogging he gave to it to the gravel roads that it travelled
Hello and thanks for your comment. That's Interesting, I never knew that and appreciate you telling that.
@@WheeleyInterestinghey up mate you forgot the landou not sure years it was made through
John, Hello and thanks for your Comment. I thought the hardtop Landau’s were more luxury oriented. Cheers,
@@WheeleyInteresting hey mate yes they were, sort of like LTDs but they did make them as a two door, same shell with a different front
Pity the HP was so poor, typical of American engines
Hello and thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, this was the time when Ford began choking the life out of there V8's.
Yes the emmision controls at the time killed the horsepower, most of us soon sorted that out with Holleys, cams and headers. 🤣
Nah it was the supercar scare that hit the papers right before the XA came along. The big three were forced to tone down performance by the government. That's why only 4 XA GTHO Phase 4's were ever made then the pin was pulled. You're talking from 400HP to 200HP basically overnight.
@@WheeleyInterestingWas the same for Holden as well.
The 351 Cleveland V8 was built in Australia by November , 1971 . None of the above spec engines were imported from then .
I worked at a Ford dealer back then. I remember when the new XD Falcon came out. I was disappointed that there was no more 2 doors!
Stephen, hello and thanks for your comment. I agree, you can't beat a two door hard top.
XC was the last decent Aussie Falcon. Plastic garbage and bland styling ruled from the XD on, to the end in 2016.
Hello and Thanks for your Comment. I agree the XC Hardtop was definitely a car to have.
Unfortunately that didnt save all of the hartop shells...about 90 ended up stacked on a vacant lot behind a farmhouse near ford HQ waiting to go to the crusher...i remember them stacked on top of each other and they could be seen from the highway !
Hello and thanks for your comment. That's interesting, because when I looked at this, the numbers didn't add up, so now I know what happened to all the body shells. Thanks for telling me that and appreciated.
Economics. They might have made you a mint forty years later, but they weren't going to make Ford any money.
Seriously?? Falcon Hell!! What a waste ☹
I remember when the white and blue Falcon two door Cobras were created in the late 1970s. At the time, it was reported in the media that Ford had a glut of two door falcons and didn't know how to sell them. A Ford Exec came out from USA and examined the problem, he immediately instigated creating the Falcon Cobra to sell the remaining hardtop two doors. Never see them on the road these days. Have not seen one these Aussie cobras for many years
That’s depressing to read.😭😭😭
true. it is said edsel ford came up with the idea to help shift product. they had already tried the cobra striping theme on the mustang in the usa in 1976. you see them rarely on weekends and car shows nowadays.
Hello, thanks for your comment, it's a shame that you don't get to see such a Classic more.
Keith, Hello and thanks for your comment. It's a terrible Shame that not more are around.
Steven, hello and thanks for your comment. I agree, very depressing.
Well done, well covered although the choice of photo's were a bit sketchy, there are plenty of better examples out there online. Sometimes you were showing XB Falcons rather than XC's (Black & White XB production line photo)
You must forgive him...hes a pom...but he did a pretty good job. oy guvna !
Hello and thanks for your comment. Well spotted in regard to the XB Falcon Production Line at Broadmeadows. I searched high and low trying to find something similar, but with the XC, and after a lot of searching, I unfortunately couldn't, so decided to use this one to show the interior of Broadmeadows.
Hello and thanks for your comment, much appreciated me Old China.
I grew up with f e engines.. I guess the 427 really impress me the most...😊
Tim, hello and thanks for your comment. I agree the FE 427's served Fords well as both top and side oilers, in cars like the Fairlane Thunderbolt.
400 units ? I have read there was only 30 units 🤔
Hello John and thanks for your comment. There were indeed 400 Ford Falcon Cobras produced as a limited run. But I think you might be thinking of the Bib Stillwell Cobras, which weren't produced in great numbers. By the way, I'll be releasing a video soon that explores this topic in greater depth, and I think you'll find it interesting. Thanks again for your input!
I love Fords. 60 to 69 Lincoln Continentals are my favorite land yachts(luxury). The 69 Continental was the largest U.S. production car ever built. Like odd rare ish cars with too much power. Have all the 3 years of the Maverick Grabber. All stock but 2 70 has an over built supper charged Boss 302 with 4 on the floor & limited slip split shift 9inch drop out rear end. I love shifting in reverse. It always makes people look twice. None of them go out in the rain. They aren't good at going straight with my heavy right foot.
James, hello and I agree. 60-69 was definitely a classic era for Lincolns. Maverick Grabbers are great cars too, especially the 302’s, you have. Thanks, I really enjoyed reading your comment.
Fuel prices were a non issue in 1970. Fuel didn't skyrocket until the fake preplanned gas crisis in 1973.
Nicky, hello and thanks for you comment. I see what you are getting at, but I think that at that time the automobile manufacturers could see the writing was on the wall for big displacement V8’s, thanks.
The Super Bee had a longer wheelbase than the Road Runner.
Thanks for pointing that out and although the Road Runner and Super Bee looked quite familiar, there were a number of other differences, thanks.
I like the Boss 302 cougar myself …. Because own one!
Hello and thanks for your comment. You own a Cougar Eliminator Boss, they must be pretty rare now as only about 650 were originally produced and you’ve got one. Must admit, pretty jealous, a very nice car to own.
FORD always First On Race Day
Chris, hello and thanks for your comment. Ford definitely has had their share of wins.
The wins in scca had much more to do with the team racing them than the engine or car itself. Thats why ford got their butt kicked by amc just a few years later. No one is going to claim the amc 304 was a great engine, but it spanked the boss 302 race after race.
Thanks for your comment and agreed, with the Penske Javelin and Mark Donohue at the wheel, AMC had great success in the early 70’s.
Spanked? Uh huh. They lost a good number of races to the Boss in ‘71 and ‘72 after Ford pulled the plug on their race program while the Javelin was a fully funded Penske effort.
RIP challenger and rip Camaro
Thanks for your comment and Agreed
Fantastic
Thank you, much appreciated.
Love my 1981
Thanks for your comment and I’ve always preferred the C3’s.
MK1 is the one for me
Hello and thanks for your comment. I have a soft spot for the Mk1 as well, as this was the first car I ever owned and to be honest, I spent most of my time driving it sideways.
Good content... Unfortunately , the Loud background music and heavy British accent made this Video UNWATCHABLE.... bummer....
Edward, hello and thanks for taking the time to watch my video and sharing your feedback. I understand that preferences can vary, and would like to acknowledge your feedback regarding the loud background music and the heavy British accent, which is the way I speak and unfortunately something I can't change. However, I realise that this might not be everyone's cup of tea. Thanks,
@@WheeleyInteresting the accent is different and bearable... The background music could be a little lower... ✝️🇺🇲
Edward, hello and your response is appreciated, I am working on a video as we speak and will aim to bring its volume down, a few notches. Thanks again.
That's not Kansas City International Raceway aerial shot
JCee, thanks for your comment and you’re totally correct about the aerial shot. Thanks for pointing this out.
what i want someone to uncover is a T5 BOSS429 ..
Willie, hello and thanks for your comment. As you probably know, the T5 was the designation given to the Mustang in Germany (Due to Krupp having the Copyright for that name). I have seen that there were T5 Mach 1's (1970 & 1971) and from an old 1971 brochure I have, I know that not only Mach 1's, but also the rest of the T5 Range (Apart from the Boss) were available with the 429 4bbl. Funnily enough, the 1971 Boss was only available with the 351. You mention the Boss 429, have you seen or heard anything this car? Thanks,
@@WheeleyInteresting no .. i worked in a junkyard in the mid 70`s and we had a 68 t5 as a yard car .. 302 4 speed coupe .. we tore it all to peces
I believe Sierra Gold is a 60’s Cadillac color they used. The ‘74 Esprit had a 400 (emblems on the front fenders) so it had plenty of power but they wanted a firmer suspension so they switched to Formulas & dressed them down ( hood swapped& rear spoiler removed) to look like Esprits. You can see in some of the early shows that the rear of the car looks like it’s lower than the front.
Dee, hello & thanks for your engaging & informative comments. Your details on Sierra Gold are spot-on - it was indeed a Cadillac color used in 1964 & 1965. Thanks & Much appreciated.
Wonder why it had an M5 badge. Such a minor detail 🤔
Hello, and thanks for your point about the M5 Badge. However, based on my findings, it seems the general consensus is that this Car is not a true M5. In the DVD version, director John Frankenheimer spills the beans, mentioning that 5 x Peugeots and 5 x BMWs were used in the chase scene. But here's the plot twist - if you scrutinise it closely, the car is missing its body Skirts and Front Spoiler. Plus, the Instrument Panel Gauges have white needles. Also, The gear knob isn't an M-style. When Deirdre changes the gears, you can clearly see it's a Stock E34 gear stick. Thanks for raising this point and I personally still feel the car was a BMW 535i. Cheers,
@@WheeleyInteresting yeah there are definitely inconsistencies like that. But it sure sounds like an M5, so I don't know if they used different sound or what. I'm kind of glad they didn't destroy 5 M5s but it's a bit odd. I still call it the M5 chase.
One question, how many units are there currently😍🤩💖🤔😅⚠️⁉️
Roberto, Hello and thanks for your question. However, because the Dodge La Femme was only an option package, its total numbers were never split from Dodge's production figures and although fewer than 2,500 units were made between 1955 & 1956, my research suggests that there are at least 40 of the 1955 version, but only around 20 from 1956 in existence. I hope this helps and thanks again for your question.
@@WheeleyInteresting Ok thanks much 👍‼️
We had an orange dodge omni when I was a kid in the early 90s. I loved that car and would climb in the trunk when we were driving. One day my dad was coming home and the entire steering column came off and he crashed. LOL! We got a ford Taurus after that.
Hello Jonathan, thanks for telling me about you and your Dad's experience with a Dodge Omni. The Ford Taurus, however, probably came with a user manual that emphasised keeping all parts attached for optimal road performance. Anyway, I hope your Dad was Okay after the incident and that was a great story, thanks again for sharing it.
I believe the black tail pan was only on certain color cars if it was a Darker color I do not believe it got the black
Walt, hello, thanks for your comment about the black tail-pans and you are correct. For instance Tuxedo Black Camaro’s didn’t get the black tail-pan, plus some of the darker greens etc. Unfortunately with the time restraints on Shorts, the biggest problem is fitting everything in, so I try to emphasise the main points. Thanks for your comment and understanding.
Walt, hello & you obviously know your Camaro’s, so can I ask, which one would be your all time favourite? Let me know.
@@WheeleyInteresting 68 Camaro rs is the best hands down
Walt thanks for letting me know & I would agree with the 67 & 68 from the 1st Gen and choose the 68 Z/28-RS. But of all the GM F-Bodies, I would have to say my top choice would be the 2nd Gen Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (73 & 77 Models). Thanks again.
Well all 68 Camaros did not have a chrome grill they did that part of the year second the 67 and 68 have different running lights or turn signals the 67 had chrom around them. Also bumper bolt holes are different are different in the 2 years
Thanks for your comment. I agree, the 1968 chrome grille was part of the standard production for the RS until the latter part of May 1968 & by "chrome" I mean the chrome/silver material that provides the highlight on the horizontal bars of the grille. The exact reason for this switch still remains unclear. If you take a look at this link kzread.infonKZ-Jt39fmg?feature=share I think it shows the lights you mention and their orientation. Unfortunately, the time constraints of KZread Shorts limit the depth of my explanations & I do try to focus on the key points. In the future, with more time in "Long Form" content, I aim to explore these topics more extensively, providing as much information & details as I can. I hope that this is helpful, I appreciate your understanding and feedback, thanks,
love the mexico. i daydream of owning one, or more. and s islero, and a ghibli and a khamsin and a griffo and a daytonab
Blake, thanks for the comment and you certainly have picked some classic Maserati’s. I do like the Mexico & Ghibli, all great cars. Thanks,
The 5.8L V8 variant is slower than a modern Toyota GR-86, which has 2.4 L, 4 cylinder engine. How times have changed!
Noel, hello and thanks for your comment. Technology has evolved a lot since the 70's, but these new cars don't have the same style as the classics. Thanks,
