I honestly just find the difference incredible. It's almost like a whole different band. I love 2000s fob but it is very obvious they were quite ammeture and in a way that added character to the band and I love that. Now they have all really developed their skills as musicians and performers. Patrick will be the most obvious example. I was watching an interview he did and he said that when they released futct he struggled to sing sugar we're going down. It was at the top of his range and he would pretty much just close his eyes and hope. Now it's easily in his comfortable range. His voice is a lot more refined and he has learned how to really make the most of his voice. The energy isn't as sporadic but I feel like that's mostly growing in both age and maturity rather than anything else and they are still good fun to watch live to this day.

Patrick holding the notes in 2023 is super fire! I was in Prague to see them in 2023, they were just soooo good! However Patrick gave the most energy, I love him so much!! ❤🤩

when you watch the 2007 vid on its own, Pete’s bass work is…. rough. but in the 16 years since then he’s clearly improved a lot!! i can’t see the same holes that i did in the 2007 performance

Okay, this is an example of a point Ive been trying to make recently. Yes, the bands energy, 20 years down the line, isnt as wild as it was, duh. Secondly? Yes, Patricks vocal performance in 2007 was great for all the IOH songs, but there was a specific reason for this: Those 2007 performances were mere days and months after recording the songs AND patrick having done vocal lessons, he is nailing these parts because he can sing them the exact same way he did in studio at the drop of a hat, and theyre done in literally the same vocal tone because no time has passed. But now consider the 2023 footage. They havent played this song in a real live setting in 16 years, but admittedly they probably practiced, and patricks voice has grown and matured and I daresay improved in the intervening time, and the fact that pete and joe cant risk doing that same physically painful or demanding shit combined with their improved skills indivdually, and also the tighter live sound the band has perfected since 2013, very much pays off. Especially when you hit the bridge, you can even hear Andy, who already was a fucking prodigy at like 15, then had years and some intensive practice playing the song in 2007, sounds more on point here. The mix is stronger, the guitar tones more similar to the original studio version, and then patrick comes in holding the notes nearly effortlessly and bringing an evergy to it that quite frankly back in 2007 he wouldve been unable to do, likely saving his stronger performances for the bigger songs, and the places like when he'd sit at the piano for golden, to ensure he could give his all at those moments. But 2023 Patrick Stump has no fuckin need to hold back. The energy may be different now, but as someone whose listened to hours of live audio from the band I can say without a doubt that the modern day fall out boy show is equally as special of an experience for both similar and different reasons

This video is kinda sad to watch, not bc of the song, but the comparison between actual Joe and 2007 Joe. Like I've noticed his energy being kinda different this tour and this video just confirmed what I suspected :(

I was inspired by someone else's video where they did this with Paramore's "Decode"! They said that Paramore uses IEMs with a click track going the entire time to sync up with tracks and stage effects. Since both FOB versions start with the string intro I figured that they do the same thing Was definitely impressed myself!

Well it’s the tracking, there’s prerecorded stuff mixed in to help make the instrumentation (like those staccato notes at the beginning) sound like the album. Not “cheating” / lip syncing. Just layers to reflect how layered of an album IOH is. So the live instruments have to follow that, that’s why it’s exactly the same tempo. Still impressive though, probably even more difficult to stay on track than it is to just be able to do whatever speedwise. I think drummers in particular hate the constraints of following prerecorded music. I know a few who hated doing studio sessions for this very reason.
