Nobody mentioned the main difference between maelstrom members and everyone else: everyone excluding maelstrom are getting optic implants from kiroshi corp which is covered by a lot of mysteries and there are simply no other optic implants manufacturers on the market. But not the maelstrom. Maelstrom members all have their own weird optic implants which are not related to kiroshi. It also makes them not susceptible to brain programming through TV and they're able to see "invisible" flying cars (mayor investigation quest). There are a lot of stuff in the game that heavily implies cyber psychosis is caused by kiroshi optics. Also one more group that doesn't use kiroshi optics are max-tac, who were cyber psychos previously. Nobody knows how people are converted from cyber psychos into max-tac soldiers, but in this process they change kiroshi optics into their own one.

In Doctor who there's an alien race called the Cybermen which are essentially humanoids that converted themselves into robots in their bodies they have emotional dampeners to stop them from committing suicide which is what inevitably happens if they see what they have become

The cyber implant just makes you a little mad but you can overcome it and get used to it what elevates it to cyberpsychosis is wether jumping into a heavy grade implant like military grade which is a lot not just for your body but for your brain to handle and the other one is PTSD, if the implant has like a connection to the brain like the Sevasistan (i can't spell it) it forces the brain to enhance its capability which means PTSD would be reoccurring more

Both are equally likely cause Goro, unlike Smasher, isn't highlighted in red but also is not a boss in the game. However, there's also the fact that Adam Smasher is staring at you the entire time he's there until Goro walks passed him to go to the elevator which Only Then does he turn around and enters the elevator

I think you have the theory wrong. Even when ingame is said that is because too many chrome is not that, is not the amount of chrome. Is a misconception or a spread lie on purpose.

I personally think it runs parallel to mental illness today. A lot of people have learned to live and cope with it. Some people go au natural, aka Ganic in 2077. Some use and abuse substances to live with it in a mutual (albeit tense) understanding. These substances can either be from the streets or medically provided. Either way, it all depends on the constitution of the person. If you can make it through life with it, congrats. But if you can't, it will end from bad to straight up horrid. Yelling at your neighbor, doing dumb stunts, excommunicating yourself from family, religion, the community, or just committing crimes. Add cyberware into the mix and the scale becomes multiplied.

The thing that is shown more in the Netflix series of cyber punk is that being around youre friends and family and people you love and care about will keep you sane its kina like a fight and if youre fighting for your friends it helps a lot

[Not so] Hottake: Cyberpsychosis isn't an actual thing on it's own. I personally think, it's rather the subconscious semi-reflective perception of the people who fear getting a psychosis. They chrome up, always with the "fact" in mind, that they could turn mad. This self perception ITSELF could then lead to the outbreak of an individual psychosis, from the pear pressure and stress of the seeming risk, independently to the amount of chrome they're hanging onto. Cyberpsychos definitely have psychotic urges and action patterns, but those are rather caused by selfmadr paranoia and schizophrenia of the people, encouraged from side's of puplic corporate Propaganda.

One small thing that impressed me were the delamain missions. On first run, my first car was the one you drive back to Del hqs. I assumed on the spot i will have to drive them all back, like a bunch of lazier game would do. And nope, you talk one out of "suicide", get ambushed by another, one just have a creepy chat with you in the middle of a trash field... I knew the cdpr i loved from the witcher was still there, despite the botched release on precedent geb

personally, i always thought that cyber psychosis is a brand-new up and coming thing, (think about autism after the 1990s) as the world got more advanced (i mean, comparing the 2024 flashbacks with the 2077 game, there's a LOT of change within those 53 years, cyber psychosis becoming a huge threat as time goes on makes sense, hence why it can't be fixed by fixers.) but, think about when David had his implants, i would argue the ONLY reason David could use his sandy 10 times in one day because he ONLY had the sandevistan, and his processing system and cyberware could handle it. and i would also argue David has a high tolerance, as that's evident and makes sense, cyberpsychosis could totally be a virus as well, it might not be bigger than we think, and it might just be something as small as a virus.

alternatively, i just thought of this, but the cyberpsychos we fight are extremely mentally ill, before and during the fight. If you had schizophrenia, (example, any other serious illness would work) and a fixer put some chrome you couldn't handle or chrome that wasn't good, or just the fixer did a shitty job, that could totally pose a problem regarding cyberpsychosis. it might be a complex, listen to maelstroms voicelines. the way they talk about chrome makes it seem like the chrome is controlling them, not the actual people.

In my mind canon, it's a people who lost "hope", not a will to live but "hope". Imagine living in a dystopia without hope and you lost "hope". It's not lead to suicidal but make their existence disappear and they only there not to live, but to imitate the environment. They are not living being any more, but a chair, a car,... a thing that be produced and made. They are flesh machine that been made by that dystopia.
