    Thank you so much for your lessons! A question - is the sizing permanent? Can a garment can be washed by hand and how will the sizing be affected? I am very new to tambour and so very exited to learn 😊

    Where is the thread

  • @tambourbeader
    @tambourbeader Жыл бұрын

    The thread is on a spool off to the side of the frame. It comes to the fabric from underneath the frame ...the back side of the design. When doing thread embroidery the front of the design is face up , when adding beads or sequins the frame is turned over and you are working from the back.

    Me again Robert,i get the sequins now but what about the beads like just putting one in a lace flower and moving on until all the lace flowers are covered?

  • @tambourbeader
    @tambourbeader Жыл бұрын

    to add one bead to a flower you have to either continue the chain stitching of the thread to the next flower or start and stop with each flower.

    Hello Robert,i am wanting to do a tulle skirt but only 1 bead randomly to make the skirt sparkle,if doing what i would like to do with much practice what do you suggest because i dont want to break off the thread all the time? thank you and loved watching your series 1 etc.

  • @tambourbeader
    @tambourbeader Жыл бұрын

    You only have two choices either start and stop with each bead or continue to stitch between each bead. The fist method is explained in my book in the chapter on "Isolated Elements". For the second method i would suggest a metallic thread so that it too gives a bit of sparkle between the beads.

    My eyes aren’t great but I am trying to figure this out. So basically you are applying the beads to the underside of the fabric-thus the semitransparent fabric? Cool! I still think I will probably need one of those magnifying work lights. Beautiful work!

    Hello Robert! Enjoyed these videos. I bought your book yesterday through Blurb and am looking forward to getting it soon. Does it have resource recommendations in it? New to tambour (we didn't learn this type of design in my costume design MFA way back in the 80s (wish we had!), but it seems like such a cool skill to have.

    Please can you help. I have just started having a go at tambour work ,but when I poke needle in wrap around,,when pulling out my needle catches, you make it look so easy. Also what thickness of thread can a use if I am only doin chain stitch for a pattern..

  • @ColleenMarble
    @ColleenMarble2 жыл бұрын

    I'm just now starting to learn how to make the basic chain stitch (unfortunately, having to learn from KZread videos) and my hook keeps catching on the fibers of the fabric so that I can't pull it through. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, because I'm following every tutorial precisely. I've also tried three different fabrics and two different threads so far. I will keep working on it, but I really wish I had someone who could show me in person, or watch me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. I definitely have the needle hook lined up with the screw, and I'm rotating the needly and pushing the back of the hook away so that I can clear the 'hole' when I lift it, to no avail. Sometimes it comes through easy, but more often it catches.

    Colleen: Having someone to watch your hands is really the best way to refine the technique so it works perfectly with every stitch. I have restarted offering classes in my KY studio. For more information consult my web page Tambourbeading.US

    I do have a question. I like working with size 11 seed beads. What size needle should I get and is it easy to get replacements if it breaks?

  • @tambourbeader
    @tambourbeader2 жыл бұрын

    The size of the beads has nothing to so with the size of the hook. the thickness of the thread dictates the size of the hook. the hooks are very strong and should not brek unless you drop them. I have used the ame hooks for over 10 years

    Haha! I have been doing hand embroidery with needle and thread and only just discovered the tambour needle and a few others. Like this one because of the hook needle. I must try it. I could go faster! Thanks for the information!! :)
