Dr Sahib.. thank you for your lecture. As an Arabic language teacher I cannot stress the importance of the role of Arabic language education in this education revival process. It is the language of our past knowledge. Thus, as I see it, any talk of reform of Islamic education without reference to the deep and wide study of Arabic (for all muslims) as a living language of knowledge is fruitless... how else can we access our past? I am going through the book Al Jabr wal Muqabala of Al Khawarizmi and would love it that our Muslims students would be able to access such a text (it's not hard)... May Allah reward you for your efforts. I am also very passionate about this issue..

I agree that Arabic language is central to Islam, and should play the same role in the Islamic World that English now plays. However, many efforts to institutionalize this within the educational system have failed for a number of reasons. Efforts for reform must be sequenced correctly, and in my view, this goal of making Arabic the common language of discourse among Muslims must be deferred until we can detach our economies from global capitalism, and ensure that productive jobs are available within our domestic economies. This requires achieving economic self-sufficiency, which must be the first goal for Islamic economies.

That is why it is Sociology and not "Social Sciences". That said, some laws of economics like DMU and relation of Demand-Supply will apply to all societies. Also one can not isolate science from economic problems (say solving issues of Agricultural & Industrial productivity). Silly that Speaker objects to use of Mathematics (a language in some ways) which is used in describing / Modelling any problem and examining feasibile solutions. There is no denying that Efficiency (in use of resources and effort), Innovation and Savings & Investment are critical to any economic enterprise; irrespective of any society/religion. BTW pleasure is not all physical but also satisfaction of helping fellow citizens (so you have Charity in all civilizations and find Billionaires donating large parts of their fortunes). There was not only Islamic way; every major Religion had their way of arranging socio-economic life. omehow Islam has this Otherism on which basis they reject anything modern like in this third generation version of economics. Islamic economics revolved mostly around Trading and not so much around agricultural or Industrial production. The Trade Guilds in Islam were a mish mash of Greco-Roman & Syrian persian models. One of the major issues of said Islamic Economic Model is confusing Interest with Riba; and interest is "legitimate time value of money" (as governed by State) and not exploitation. I am afraid Mr Zaman does not understand atleast origins of Capitalism; viz Paul wrote in 2 Thess. 3:10, “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.” or parable of Vineyard owner and workers in Matt 20. The commandment Thou shalll not covet has direct bearing on protection of Individual's property. Capitalism flowered from association with Industrial Revolution not separation from God. The church owned a third of all the land of Europe and it established a continent-wide system of canon law that tied together multiple jurisdictions of empire, nation, barony, bishopric, religious order, chartered city, guild, confraternity, merchants, entrepreneurs, traders, et cetera. It is not for nothing that Pope Innocent IV !1243-1254) is often called “father of the modern learning of corporations.” Monopoly is a dangerous thing that is why State interferes (sometimes too much as in Communism) withMarkets by laying laws. The meritocracy & competition, individual innovation and investment of profits are salient features of Cpitalism which can be put to use in a Socialist manner to finance collective social sustainability in efficient manner (as has been done in many welfare societies in East and West) ensuring all citizens are fed, clothed, housed and employed.

Let me point some obvious problems in the presentation in somewhat slide-wise manner Slide1.Islam is all about Knowledge: WRONG Practical Islam today is not about Knowledge but about following a long list of dos and don’s, attempt to spread it and resist any pressure of modernity to change. Nearly all the hard facts about the Universe and Natural Phenomenon in Quran are either wrong (Earth being flat, Sun going around Earth, Mountains, Earthquakes, Diseases etc,) or incomplete (origin and age of Universe, ongoing astral destruction and creation, Evolution of life-forms, Mass-Energy equivalence etc.). So this idea of Islamic texts being True and Eternal is a major handicap on growth of Islamic world. With killings of progressive Mutazila’s buildup of knowledge halted and Islam has nothing to show for its contribution to mankind over 1000 years. . Slide 2: The highly boisterous claim of alleged knowledge in Quran and Sunnah being superior over all knowledge achieved as well as likely to be achieved in future is obvious wrong and without any logical basis Slide 3: While Bedouin chieftains did in fact conquer vast tracts of lands, and their faith of Allah being on their side, must have played a hand in performance it there were additional important factors (i) these were times of decline of Roman/Byzantine and Persian empires who had had recent wars amongst themselves (ii) Muslim armies had soldiers who were compensated by Maal-E-Ganimat (shared spoils of war including slaves) and not fixed pay and (iii) Better war gaming, Intelligence or spying and flexible troop deployment (Battles of Yarmuk, Shams and Qassidiya) as per emerging situation. Such spectacular victories are seen for Mangols (Genghiz Khan), Julius Caesar and Samudragupta too. Slide 4-13: While earlier Islamic rulers encouraged translation and collation of then existing Greek and Indian knowledge (Al Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, Ibn Rushd), the Islamic worldview that Quran is root of all knowledge is misplaced and has been cause of lack of development of STEM subjects ever since the defeat of rationalist Mutazilas (by Caliph Mutwakkil and later Abbasids) that started the period of darkness that continues till date. In any case the enlightenment is also about Democracy and Secularism and Rationality, Equality etc. the concepts that gained from French Renaissance and Revolution. One may for instance note that despite a long reign Mughals did not open any new university or astronomical observatory. A God of gap is no God. For instance furtherance of knowledge (and truth) about universe does not lie with somehow convincing ourselves with Quranic (or Judeo Christian) writings about Universe but going out into space and on the Earth surface and beneath it. Truly speaking all Religions practice colonization of mind by forcing too many “Eternal A-priori Assumptions”, Contemporary studies have shown that Muslim countries not only suffer on human development Indices (HDI) but also low on Happiness (and within Muslim countries happiness generally varies with prosperity. If Islam) has to be pursued simultaneous to Science & Technology we have to separate the two just as other religions did by recognizing the separate purposes of two. Tablighi Islamists have, somehow convinced themselves, of this Jihad with West at all levels and wasting time and energy in going back to Imam Ghazali (who is deemed by many as one who laid the foundations for Jahiliyat) but expecting different results. Slide14: Our brother seems to be confused (just as Quran is) of functioning of Heart i.e. a pump for pushing blood and not seat of knowledge or “recognizer of truth” and “communicator with God”. He professes continuation, albeit in greater intensity, of Shukr, Sabr, Astghfar and “Spiritual goal of Economic System” Slide 15-19: Brother wrongly recognizes the source of Western progress to things like Trinity etc. In fact it is precisely after the West removed Religion (Church and Bible) from governance, sociology, economic order and embarked on scientific pursuit of Natural Laws (truth) that they progressed to current state. Utilitarianism, is secular (not Judeo-Christian) concept arising in 18-19th century outside of Church (Bentham). Utilitarianism does not go unopposed in West and has been shown to be limited by Kant (Deontology), Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. Obviously Brother has misunderstood Statistics to arrive at ludicrous deduction that such important mathematical tool is “racist conspiracy”. If use of computer by an Imam does not make it Islamic, then use of Statistics by Eugenists does not make it Racist. Coming to Sociology the subject started as late as 19th century (later than Fiqh) with men like Comte advocating study of society using “scientific methods” (untainted by any Religious bias). No surprise then that this is not liked by our Islamist friend. But he is right that most of observations used pertain to western society but the where are Islamic sociologists who could verify their applicability to Muslim societies (that again vary from place to place hence no singular Islamic society) Slide 20- 27: The very premise that only Islam provides reliable source of true knowledge is a FALSE claim as has been shown by decline of Islam in post Ghazali period, None of proselytizing religions have epistemic humility else they would not go convert people all over globe. Good luck to brother as he goes developing Islamic Psychology (with heart as a component), refute Darwinist competition (and evolution), feed billions, stop wars against humans (like those in Syria, Iraq and Yemen?), animals (100 million animal qurbanis on Eid?) and planet (Moon/Mars landing?) My closing argument to Brother would be that if solution requires forcing Quran and Sunnah into everything all the time then why not begin by immigrating to Afghanistan; latest and most truthful Islamic state that just defeated the biggest Western power. Doing same thing over and again, expecting different results, is Insanity as per a very famous man. If every western secular science and idea is such an anathema to Islamist then why do they still use the fruits of such efforts?

This video is addressed to fellow Muslims, and therefore takes for granted common assumptions we all share - such as the idea that the Quran is the revealed word of God. If you want to discuss and dispute basics of Islam, there are many other fora on the internet where you can get a lot more engagement and traction - an obscure comment on an obscure video is not the right place for this. If you would like to learn more about my views, I recommend you look at some of my posts/videos/papers addressed to a secular audience - for instance, you might start with weapedagogy.wordpress.com/2021/12/21/alternative-models-of-development-becoming-the-change-you-want-to-see/

@@AsadZaman7 Sir my idea was to put across a POV which is not tainted by "insiders bias" for your audience so that they do not waste their time (as has been done in the past) that may lead them into a (Gaza like) situation where having missed all the opportunities to develop real economic and technological strength one has to depend on the God and Umma who are ultimately on the side of large armies, superior technology and vast sum of money. BTW I did visit the references in your presentation and I think short of actually claiming an Islamic DNA you have created an Islamic multiverse right amidst our real universe. To me most of your stuff (after a career in Maths and Economics) is A-la Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood of "Jinns for Energy" fame. Aprops your WEA Pedagogy Link I would say that using secular "Alternative" to squeeze in (already tested and found unsatisfactory) "Islamic" models is simply a subterfuge (Taqiyya?)

AoA, I think your idea of “chinioti” business model based BBA is very valuable. The problem with the current BBA is that it is based purely on capitalist ideology, which is 180 degree opposed to our values. As a result, the student has a mental battle going on in his mind. On one side the university/teacher compels him/her to learn and get good grades on capitalist ideas. On the other side “maulvi sahib” preaches totally other ideas. As a result the student compartmentalizes his thoughts and actions into “deeni” and “dunyavi” parts. Otherwise, he will become schizophrenic dealing with this constant mental battle. The other bachelor program that you should start is Psychology. Here again the materialist based concepts that are taught in conventional psychology degree are contradictory to our view of human psychology.

I searched for the idea of the book on the Internet, and I think there must be another book about the experiences of Islamic banks around the Islamic world and the standards of their success or involvement in illegal transactions. Such as some Islamic banks claiming that they apply Sharia law, while some of them cheat in banking transactions to burden the borrower with a higher interest rate in a Sharia manner, as the Islamic bank claims. 2. Ways to address the problems of interference in transactions with Western banks and their laws that control the options of Islamic banks and Islamic bank clients, such as Visa cards or purchasing local and international stocks, etc. 3. How can the Islamic Bank in the future not be involved in prohibited transactions with Western banks, have international independence, and move with complete freedom in accordance with Islamic Sharia? 4. How do scholars of Islamic jurisprudence come to an understanding in dealing with the many problems in Islamic banks and the conflict between some scholars regarding financial contributions to listed companies, buying and selling shares, types of loans, financial financing, mortgages, etc.? 5. Examples of the differences between Islamic banking laws and how they operate in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Pakistan, etc
