Ellie, It's obvious to me that you are exhibiting all the symptoms of acute narcissistic personality disorder along with a dose of chronic collective victimhood. I realize your so-called confessional was made several years ago and I hope you have during that time benefitted from proper psychiatric care.

Hi Ellie. I have just found your KZread post. I am in Australia and your commentary resonates with me. I worked in academia for 12 years on casual contracts. I was generally employed twice a year on a 10 week contract. I taught three courses (Australian History, Australian Studies and International Relations). I also physically taught across three campuses and sometimes two campuses on the same day. With tenure disappearing due to casualization and being told I needed to research and publish to bring funds into the university it was very discouraging. I left academia in 2006 and was fortunate enough to make a career in the public sector. It is very hard on peoples lives and mental health. I hope that things worked out for you and you family. Cheers

Ellie, this is wonderful! I am writing my literature review for my dissertation proposal, and this presentation is truly helpful. I love handwriting notes and was trying to figure out how to integrate handwritten notes with those taken in Zotero and with OneNote. The coding system you use and the digitizing process is exactly what I needed to learn. Thank you.

These movies do not exist at this time, but I hope they will oneday become films.

Could you give some tips on: 1) surviving a conference without sleep? Ie Too anxious to sleep the night before presenting; 2) getting savaged in the question time immediately after giving the paper and 3) speaking gobbldigook whilst presenting (bring so anxious that you muddle up word order etc)?

you know, at the end of your video, youtube did the whole, watch this video next thing, which I stopped PDQ, as I wanted to comment here but that was the 'being precarious in the UK' video you did from a while back. And you know, the difference between then and now, in terms of what you look like, really hit home. You look HAPPY now, and that's affected you physically in a way that is just wonderful to see :) Hope it continues!!! I won't be doing any reviewing of my year just yet. I do that between xmas and new year every year. Last year I did the compass book which was really good, so I'm doing that again this year (yearcompass.com/ for what I'm on about - it's free if you want to give it a go!)

I came here after your recent tweet. It's helpful to see a recent SOAS PhD student describing her journey. I've started this year having done my MA and BA here too. I can sense the impending descent into depression and I have barely started. I am determined not to let that happen by organising my social life as carefully as my academic work. Thank you for this. I'll be looking at more of your content and be in touch.

HEA Associate Fellowship Hello Ellie, thanks for sharing your thoughts re HEA Fellowship. It would be great if you could post a link to your successful application. Working in education throughout the years has involved membership of numerous professional/academic bodies which are either desirable if not essential by the institutes I have worked for. I am hesitant to take on yet another membership but as you mention many UK institutes require this before they even consider you for an interview. Thank you for sharing.

I cannot stop watching your videos...i know this is an old video but I watch for motivation. School just started this week. I'm almost at the end of my 2nd Master's. And I need to set up an academic journal this helps a lot. Quick question off topic. I am studying Koine Greek. Have tried in undergrad but need it now for my degree, plus I am more mature this time and I am super excited. Do you have any tips or hints on learning Greek? Possibly a video? I know everyone says flashcards, flashcards, flashcards which I have started but is there any other "tools" or ideas that would help. Maybe how you learned greek.
