Just because you dress like someone; you don't become alike. My family has been in land business (not like modern day Real estate) for more than 50 years. People in my region respect us. We don't wear cloths to achieve any certain appearance. We wear cloths that are comfortable & decent looking; also something that is traditional. It's a culture that has developed over the years.

I remember when I was like 16, there was always a gt63 amg (200k min) parked at the front of the street my grandparents lived, one day I was so pissed of at this person I never met, that I actually scratched the car with a scissor, it was one of these matte grey amg paints, where you can spot every scratch from miles away. 90% of bags are bought by rich daddies for their sugar babies (hookers). Women wearing expensive clothes and bags usually didn't earn money for it. A girl entrepreneur usually doesn't waste money so easily, because they know how hard she have to work for it.
It has less to to with your social standings and more to do with your view on money. Reality is most wealthy people have had to work to gain there money. Therefore, its taught them to be frugal and money smart over time. The people who are brought up with wealth, are brought up to purchase quality brands as they will last. Therefore most of these people don't view fashion brands as options because, for the self made person its overpriced when it comes to value for money. And the people brought up with wealth, are brought up with higher quality products than what's offered by most fashion brands. Therefore the people typically buying them are people who are trying to look like they are climbing the socialism economic ladder(if they actually are or not is a whole different matter) or people who are interested in fashion. There are a lot of variables at play here but that's my basic summary.

Something that helps: Consider your social circle. Do your friends associate with you because of the camaraderie or because you all wear the same brands? Often times our friends, neighbors, and coworkers indirectly influence how we spend. My friends shop at Gap and Old Navy, but have substantial savings in retirement. I strive to be like my friends.
