I have a D50 for adding sparkle stacked on analogue synths like a Prophet or Oberheim. The DX7 sounds a lot better stacked and detuned with itself. A lot of producers in the 80's used a Yamaha TX816 which was 8 DX7's in a rack box. Check out Madonna's 'Live to Tell' for a good example of stacked DX7 sounds from a TX816. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6ag29ablLrWpJM.htmlsi=EgUOQ6x0-U1qQhSl Composer/Producer Patrick Leonard had a TX816 and used it all over that track.

Synths were progressing like lightening through the 80’s Hard to compare through that decade. Each one is progressively better than the one before.

As much as we want to imagine that everyone has a computer and everyone is proficient with one, or is able to use a DAW; reality is that most people are barely able to use one. So workstations serve that section of population that is not able to make a computer work for their needs, or that is not able to use a DAW or complex hardware. My question would be instead, why are there still arrangers out there; considering that even a 400 dollars computer can play midi tracks if you connect it to a keyboard; so would make more sense sell cheap midi arranger modules instead of 6K arranger keyboards.

This puppet man held this thing for 5 minutes and said "...auhmm..." b4 demoing basics. Can we get some opinions on this channel from someone that wasn't pulled out of a dusty box with old toys and exclusively explores boring church sounds? Let's get this guy behind the camera to support someone more modern with... life.

The Rolands are gorgeous but the PolySix just hits me with that same “immediacy” that I felt when I first heard the Mono/Poly. It’s undeniable!

What is the problem? Sound diversity means more creativity or you just use always the same patches? Thats not what the synths are made for. Otherwise buy a workstation.

My theory of the SY77 is that, back in mid 80s, every professional keyboardist was ending up buying both the DX7 and D50.. so Yamaha thought how could they tape the two together (FM & AWM) in a single unit and make it cost lesser than the two together but more than what they made off the DX7II

Really excellent video - thanks for sharing. I had a Casio CZ1000 as a teen and recorded loads of my improvisations compositions. I really loved it but just didn't have any other recording equipment to fully take advantage of all it offered. My school recordings are on this channel, including this short clip of an intro to me playing it live at a school variety show: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXZ508SRncnFqtY.html

It's an amazing machine for darkwave/gothic music... I used it on a song I made in collaboration with Perpetual Midnight (The process), in the final section I played a sort of a distant horn with the Streichfett and instantly felt a sort of "early Dead Can Dance" vibe...It's been used on stage by Hante., L'Avenir, and on the electro side of things, by Dopplereffekt.

Maybe no different on shitty phone or laptop speakers but its night and day on my headphones. Roland sounds crisp and punch where as the behringer is muddy and wouldnt sit in the mix anywhere near as well

What jumps out at me is the sound quality of the lead instruments. Even with YT compression you can tell they are top of the line. Groove boxes, Korg Karma and Montage Arps approach this capability with a bit more dependence on the player and a lower "cheese" factor. But the PA5x, if cheesy, it is hard and high quality cheese. There are styles and custom capabilities that would challenge the listener to "tell" it was not live musicians. Like you, I am not the musician I would need to be for these, I like the synth textural world. But the quality of the sounds is intriguing.

The D-beam is no unusable gimmick. I have mapped so many things to the one on my a49 midi keyboard to so many useful parameters like crossmod and kept the mod stick open for vibrato and pitch. Very cool tech that doesn't get enough love.

i was wondering how many conversions would happen if i use multiple hardware inserts on one channel? for example i insert one hardwae insert with la2a, and then insert another hardware insert with 1176. does this mean that a signal go to la2a, goes back to pro tools and the again goes to 1176 and back to pro tools again? double conversion?

Holy shit. What's the point of this video? Yes, it's designed to sound like...an Oberheim. I don't know what you expect, but it's obvious you want something other than an Oberheim. It's just not that fucking hard.

I still got one, with a Tx816 and Rx11 is a powerfull trio. Yes FM sound could be boring if used alone but mixed to others synthesis system is a great option. Thousand sounds on the web and ipad editor open lot of creative way. Great machine.

I don't think studios nowadays are going to use any of these workstation keyboards. Today is the era of DAW and plugins. All they need is a MIDI controller with good key action.

You don't like the sound because it's shiny and schmaltzy? If you layer too many analog tones you get mud, and a digital sounding tone like this can stand out...maybe too much if you don't know how to blend it in. I think it's good to have as a totally different option, and one of the few digital sounding non-modular synths that really benefits from being in hardware because of all the hands-on controls. This is a better sound quality than the cheaper Volca's and Behringers can produce in this form factor.
