The Valdez Family Homestead

The Valdez Family Homestead

Welcome to our family Homestead! We probably have the smallest homestead out there with .30 acres. Not to worry though, because we will be doing BIG things with our tiny land! We will be changing the definition of "homstead," as we will raise backyard chickens, grow things, and defend our land with the 2nd amendment. Join us as we do fun videos that can sometimes turn into useful information when starting a new homestead life.

    What if it's hot outside? It's 80 degrees at the very low right now. Can I love them out to the coop if they're 5 weeks?

    My current batch of chicks are about 8 weeks old. I made sure the coop and laying house is fully safe and they are fine. I’m in Georgia. So it’s hot outside

    Nobody should ever buy from vevor they have only chat room customer service. sent a plucker that was mangled and dented box destroyed motor didn't work and only offered 100$ on a 360$ plucker please do not promote or support them! Its disgusting how we were sent a completely damaged product with proof and were offerend 1/3 of what we payed. We are a small family homestead and 360 $ loss is a huge hit. Buyer beware!!!

    So sorry your environment is struggling with chemicals. We are lucky living in the side of a mountain in Wales where the only agriculture is sheep and Xmas trees. It is cold 1000 degrees up but our environment is relatively clean. Good luck with your project.

    I need a privacy fence the deer ate my whole garden the mountain lions have moved into my area and driving the deer from the lake area up to our land, it’s such a problem here in Texas the farm commission and Texas parks and wild life announced that mountain lions can be hunted or trapped year round like our wild hogs and if you have a garden you can take 2 deer ( where I live they travel in herds 10-50 it’s a real problem

    After the freeze, new roots and trunks grew. They are currently getting bigger and making their way up the cattle fence. Probably won't be getting grapes this year though.

    Last year I got grapes from Home Depot, planted them, and they died. This year I've purchased more and I'm going to plant them in pots first and then transfer outside, is that a good idea or no?

  • @thevaldezfamilyhomestead
    @thevaldezfamilyhomestead2 ай бұрын

    I have honestly never tried that. Always have started them in the ground. I'm sure there are definitely videos and/or articles out there of people who have tried. Would be interesting to see if the start out better that way.

    Don’t throw away your whey. There are so many things that you can use it for! You can’t actually feed it to the chickens, water, your tomato plants, use it in smoothies….the list is endless!

    Cold in texas😂... In Wisconsin we don't give the chickens heat. God gave the birds that all weather coating. ( Ya the combs get frosted but their wild counter parts... Turkey, pheasant dont have the luxury of a water proof roof) Lime and sulfur? Quano is nitrogen and sulfur and any bug that wants to lay eggs in the pile is free chicken food. Maggots don't stand a chance against a chicken. (We dont have fire ants) But our chicken will tare a suger ant hill apart. My birds are free range gor the most part. Predators are kept at bay by the neighbors sheepdog and donkeys. I may loose a couple birds to the raccoons but we can trap them out quick and usually they go for the feed not the birds first.

    If you feed them mostly meat and bugs, how orange would their yokes get and how would they taste? Store egg are on the pale yellow side and not that tasty.

  • @thevaldezfamilyhomestead
    @thevaldezfamilyhomestead3 ай бұрын

    The yolks are extremely orange! Letting your chickens free range the pasture is how it is supposed to be. Night and day comparison between store bought eggs and pasture raised eggs. Pale yellow = "Unhealthy Hen"

    Eat meat and eggs and butter. That’s what your gut needs 99% of the time.

    Family eats that every day. Your gut needs a natural probiotic as well. Whether it be something like this or a drink such as kombucha.
