Took me years to find this as a disc in the 70s; still have it but listen to it on the web now. A defining tune to a 12 year old!

Somebody forgot to tell the pianist that the song is done with a single chord…no turnaround…no four…no five…just E.

I want VR to make it feel like I’m walking into some random night club in Manhattan and this just happened to be the band playing. Pam Grier is at the table next to me, Miles is chillin’ in the corner, rubbing his nose, everyone has platforms, bell bottoms and is all dressed up and just groovin’ having their minds blown. Take my money now! I was born too late but just early enough to be teased by knowing what I missed.

So why can't contemporary musicians create anything this good? Perhaps being lazy, untalented and "coddled"?

When I hear Chapter 2 I get the feeling I'd like to make deeply urban movie set in late 1970's New York, the script somehow evolving and swirling around this tune.

Utter brilliance! So interesting to see him early in his career playing so clean through a Fender amp, before the Tony Williams' Lifetime work when he started to push up the gain. You can see how precise he was and hear how influenced he was by horn players rather than other guitarists.

Who else is out there we never heard of? For all we know, there could be some little Chinese man or woman who ripped it harder than her a couple years before her. Every once in a while a new unheard of legend pops up.... this is why history books can't be believed, they tell u what they want, not what it was.

i reckon a life story movie of this great played by Eddie Griffin would be amazing if taken up by the right director.
