Jamacho is a short and scenic hike in the Kathmandu Valley which is located in Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park where you'll get the panoramic view of the whole Kathmandu Valley. The hike starts from Phulbari gate of National Park which can be reached by bus or own private vehicles. If you're going by bus or any means of transportation then you've to reach Balaju or Machapokhari (both lead to the same road to the destination) and move towards the road to Kakani. After a few minutes of driving, you'll reach the start point of the hike which is under the Nepal Army since the area is a National Park. So, there are certain rules that you've to follow during the hike and also some restricted things that you can not take to the jungle such as speakers, lighters, cigarettes, alcohol, and so on. The main thing is you'll be asked to get a ticket there which costs Rs. 100 each (for Nepali). Keep the tickets safe because you'll need to show them at one of the checkpoints. The hike is 4.7km in total (one-way) so you can calculate the time as per your walking speed BUT normally it will take 3.5 to 4 hours to reach the top and return in around 2 hours. At the same time, we managed to get to the top at the same average calculated time by clicking pictures, resting for a while, capturing videos, time-lapses, and a lot more, AND returned back in less than an hour (that's really quick I know). Note: Since you're going through the National Park jungle, there might be a chance that you'll encounter some wild animals so it is recommended to go with the group and stay in the group as well. Also, you must have to return back under 5 p.m.(time can vary with the season) so start the hike as early as you can and accordingly.
