Yep, I am in this situation. A squirrel(s) ate a hole into the wood soffit which is 20 feet up in the air, so I do not have a ladder that tall nor a scaffold. And when I tried to locate that hole inside the attic, the space gets so small as I get near it, because of the roof pitche, that it is too far to get to, not without me have to possibly crawl. The attic is starting to smell, there is feces & pine nuts everywhere. There is no flooring up there, so I am anxious of where to step, not without have to bring some long boards to step on as bridges across the ceiling joists. The insulation is the blown type so I would have to sweep around to find the joists to step on. And I think there are more than one squirrel & possibly also babies, idk. I really need to board up the hole but it is up high on the outside wall, on the soffit below a roof edge. I don't even know how they even gnawed a big hole. I could possibly upload a video/photo of the hole on my youtube channel. I suppose I could rent a long ladder, idk. It has possibly been over a year+ long since they got into there.

Excellent video, exactly what I need, thanks so much! BTW, at what point is it appropriate to seal off the vents if you're in the middle of trapping rats? I'm concerned that if I seal the vents I might be sealing some rats under the house as well, preventing their escape. Should I wait until I don't seem to be trapping any more rats, or should I seal them asap and just keep setting traps?
@pestpatrol64997 ай бұрын
Hey Scott - we recommend setting traps and sealing all entrypoints at the same time. Sealing the entry points will greatly help with the trapping process and will prevent rats from continuing to get food/water outside and avoiding your baited traps. Just ensure that you have a few traps in the crawlspace to be able to catch multiple rats quickly (and check them regularly) and you'll be fine. - Gabe

@pestpatrol64998 ай бұрын
Hi! The most important aspect of rodent control is always locating how they're getting into the home itself. Once that is located you can place traps around that area and seal it up. In an attic space you could set traps directly in the attic to catch anything, but make sure you figure out how they're getting in. Thanks! - Gabe

I work in pest control and we love using the old victor out o'sight mole traps, but the new ones like you show in this video are built so much cheaper than the old ones. The worst part is the spring is weak, you can easily open it by hand where the old ones you need the tool or Andre the Giant level hand strength to open it by hand. Do you actually have success using these newer models? We tried and they just don't seem to work as well, seems like many other people who review them say the same thing. Curious what your experience is and if you have any tricks, besides the one in this video, that help make these cheaper traps more effective.

Hey Mindy! Usually if the soil is too dense then you'll need to either supplement with another soil inside where the trap goes or break up the clay into smaller bits so the mole can easily dig through it. Clay is pretty terrible to trap in though...- Gabe with Pest Patrol
