    S of D, I agree with you about Rebecca Ferguson’s A+ performance. I was continuously impressed by Javier Bardem’s expressions, as Stilgar, as he recognized all the signs of the Lisan al Gaib with such fervor.All the actors werei impressive! During moments of triumph-Paul’s first sand worm ride & the Fremen charging forth on the worms-the Dune theme music plays & my heart just expands with emotion❤ Another scene I like is Feyd Rautha walking thru the corridor & thinking Lady Margot is following him. She has manipulated his mind, which he soon realizes. It was skillfully played out, to me. I’ve watched Dune 2 many times!

    At the end of the day it worked better IMO. It allowed Chani to be separated from the prophecy to a degree, leaving it up to mystery by the end of part 2. It was great because Chani's character will likely be able to change a lot in part 3. Which can essentially make her the third movie's protagonist. That said, I've recently read comics about Pardot Kynes and that whole story could have been adapted to a side story or a miniseries.

    Hopefully, they will show the Weirding Way of battle an d interaction with the Guild and Mentats, which were all sadly lacking from Dune Part 2. The bald, pasty look of the Harkonnens in the movies is environmental, not genetic (black sun, polluted industrial planet). She’s not from Geidi, I don’t believe.

    There is another possibility for Valya's narration, that she is someone's genetic memory. I don't follow the prequel lore, which I understand this show uses (or pretends to, to appease the...estate), so I cannot say if any main series characters are her descendents. Perhaps there will be an implication in Part 3. Like you, I am interested to see the show develop its own identity separate from the films, but I wonder if they will feed each other. What feels like centuries ago, Denis Villeneuve was going to direct the pilot.

    From what I remember the pomegranate u showed in that clip, I think that in myth was eaten by Eurydice in the Underworld hence she couldn't fully return to the living with her consort Orpheus.. so maybe here it's a BG way of drawing on their awareness of myths and symbols as in the Panoplia Propheticus? When they've eaten the piece of it they are partly in the other world joined to Other Memory?

    I'm really sorry to be that guy... but I don't feel very optimistic for this. I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong though - I would very much like for this to be good. It's just, that after everything that happened - with all the delays, departures and changes - I have this sad gut-feeling that this show might just have been creatively tinkered to death, like seen bevore with several other HBO shows in the past. And HBO Execs demanding this be made to be more like Game of Thrones or whatever else they believe sells best right now, would totally explain the delays, the changes, and why people with the creative integrity of a Denis Villeneuve (and some others) would rather leave, than give in to that commercial pressure.

    Having finally watched the movies, i must say I was not much impressed with one element: at night time, the Duke, his family, all staff, the enormous army, they all seem to go to sleep. I supose they landed all their ships and all soldiers, pilots etc etc they all just went home to sleep because, you know, everyone is supposed to sleep at night time. So, they have no defense mechanism im place for the night time. There's no security in place, no night time soldiering of the Atreides territorial space. And so the enemy descides take advantage of this and attack when the enemy and all its forces are fast asleep, completely deccimating them in less than 12 hours. Likewise, it takes the Mehdi just a few hours to subsequently overwhelm his enemy armies. And I hear about Russia and Ukraine going at it for, what, 2+ years now? In short, its just a highly unrealistic presentation of the war, pretty much like the Dothrakis idiotically charging at the army of the dead in the night time. Of course, nice special effects, good acting, "silence!" nicely executed, but just a overly simplistic presentation of warfare between two large powers.

  • @secretsofdune
    @secretsofdune6 күн бұрын

    That's why I think the time jump was quite important, you had to show the growing of the force, the growing of Paul's strength and influence over a period of time. He became a Fremen arguably too quickly. The destruction of House Atreides was due to Yueh lowering the shields which was supposed to protect the complex at night. They didn't really show that clearly enough which may have lead to many being confused about that.

  • @Yoda..
    @Yoda..5 күн бұрын

    @@secretsofdune you're right. But I wonder, it just took a sheild to be taken down for a major military power to be destroyed in less than 12 hours. You have no defence system in place to detect incoming enemy forces, no warning system in place? Just seems unrealistic. And the Dune Prophecy, is that supposed to be before or after the Butlerian Jihad?

    Probably, given the political climate, we should really not be expecting any Islamic influences - at least not in the way we see it in the written work. Much like the movies, they will be notably watered down and also eliminated.

    @@secretsofdune it all depends on how cynical the BG sisters appear ie manipulating religious ideas to gain footholds over others with no thought to real faith: maybe we will also see a broader look at other beliefs eg the Two Wolves makes me think of the duality seen in Zoroastrianism - good v evil which can be viewed as internal conflicts with free will being paramount..that value ascribed to free choice seems to reflect what the BG would term as 'human' as it implies self control?

    For how much HBO has talked about wanting to match the looks of the Villeneuve movies, I think that what we've seen so far looks more like another HBO series, like House of the Dragon. It has this high production value TV look that we've come to expect from HBO, but without reaching the high visual water mark of the movies. In that sense, I'm thankful because I want this show to have its own identity and to propose something different, instead of trying to emulate something successful from a different medium. They have the opportunity to do something special with the serialized episodic TV show format and I hope they take advantage of it.

    I really like the more Bene Gesserit focussed Heretics and Chapterhouse where things go very weird. It makes sense doing a prequel financially and because they have to follow the order of the books for Herbert's books. I haven't read Sisterhood but hopefully there are some fun characters we can hate like Schwangyu and a protagonist as strong as Odrade. Given it's set 80 yrs after Butler's Jihad hopefully they include the fact that space travel is highly dangerous given it's an experimental phase with the use of spice (I think). I'll give the show a chance and think it will be ok/good, nice video as always!
