Jim Banks great surfer without doubt but there were very talented groups of surfers from many countries in 1977 unlike today. Another stand-up was Roger Kincaid from Florida great tube rider in the heaviest waves. Super stylish in the water and on the land. Had it all going on!

Now we're talking some waves!! I lived in Laguna Beach 1964-1970, then again in 2974. I spent a lot of time in the ocean those summers. I just turned 72 this July 2nd, 2024. I graduated from LBHS in 1970. I also turned 18 in mid-summer. Do I know you??

I lived there through this period of time, you would walk from your residence in your swimmers and bare feet , do y pur shopping at the small supermarket in the main street, buy a few things , this was normal for so many of us, Cronulla will never be as good again

Jimmy Banks was already a legend at Woolooware High in 1974. He would have been still in his teens here. I remember he got into shaping boards early too. I didn't know he had made travel surfing movies. Great times😊

Thank you for making these videos. I was surprised at how strong the emotions that I felt while watching this one. Trying to describe the heart flutters I felt…. Like a longing. More than reminiscing. And those demolition photos. Really powerful. Thanks again. 🙏🏾💕 Ps. Do you remember the Golden Fleece servo? I worked pumping petrol there when I was about 17!

I got my first fish shaped by Stevie Lis in ‘74. Surfed the Cliffs, Big Rock, Baja and many, many breaks up the coast all the way to Steamer Lane. Lots of partying, girls and wild living. Never thought I would make it to 30, but God mercifully saved me and everything changed-for eternity! God bless.

Hi Gary!!!! Wow... Love this post. I shaped my first Lis Fish in 1976! I too surfed Big Rock or Lobster Lounge. I was also Carlsbad '76 class. And like you, I asked the Lord Jesus into my life on Nov 30 1985 at 11 pm! My wife and I then had two children, one grew up into a pastor for Harvest, the other (daughter) is a professor at a Christian U. The Lord is amazing. When the kids came, I hung up the kneeboard and windsurfed hardcore for 15 years. We traveled as a family over 300,000 miles from Baja to Oregon. Then I got into kiting and went to Maui over 20 times. Now I am 67 and maybe over the water, but my wife and I bought electric scooters and we ride the beaches in our lazy years. The LORD is great! May you be blessed, Gary!

when you didn't appear 'retro' but just young, strong, beautiful. When old people looked old, and service wasn't just a counter/station.. the air was thick with vehicular fumes, but in the country the air still tasted like honey and bugs and trillions of tiny flying insects were in the air.. thicker then all the cigarette smoke that existed everywhere; i would happily give up the computer age for all of this era back.

priceless. thank you. Brings back awesome memories. Fond memories of the glory days of surfing before the sub-cultures demise and before the onslaught of the internet. Those definitely were the "good old days" I am just so grateful I was a part of it. Keep digging in the vault and post more vintage footage. I will be waiting here in the theatre...dead center....popcorn in hand. Thanks again.

Great memories, back in the era when made in Australia meant something, folks were proud to work in manufacturing. The population was mainly trim no tats ,piecing, no lip fillers, mobile phones or internet and people lived a more simple life.
