I don’t know who in FIDE was in charge of putting forth this model over French Chavet which took over in the 90’s. It’s inferior even to Lardy I believe, but eh, eye of the beholder or so they say. Nevertheless nice basic model :) it’s very battle ready!

Camaratta collection now has an “improved” FS set but I checked it out and the pawns are still the mini size. Unfortunate :(

I have the Raykjavek II 3.75 king set and love it. With a 2.25" squares board, perfect for competition. But for display and sheer pleasure of use, the Chess Bazaar St Petersburg set with bud rosewood is gorgeous and I have it on their 2.385 " square glossy board The knights are a pleasure to pick up and the rings on the bodies of the pieces are beautiful but functional. House of Staunton Savona is an identical set with box for $1500, this one is $600.

When I was 4, back in 1971, our Shakey's in Tulsa had a see-through one with all fluorescently-painted parts inside with a blacklight. Very very way cool :) so was their Seeburg juke. BEST PIZZA EVER! Pizza Hut a distant second. :)

I've been away from California for 33 years and I just drove past a Shakey's so had to turn around. This song brings back so many memories from being their in the early 70s. I hope they have the piano playing at each of their locations

I have the same set in sheesham and boxwood. I had to ask for replacements for 3 of the knights because the torsos were off center on the bases. The knights you showed doesn't have that problem!

Not clear, but based on the price, it probably it has a 3.5" or 3.75" king. I bought this one for $149 two years ago, but it's out of stock now: www.houseofstaunton.com/clearance-the-fischer-spassky-series-commemorative-chess-pieces-3-75-king-series.html. There are several other Fischer-Spassky sets available with different king sizes from 3.0" to 6.0"

The pawn and the rook are about the same size...rook should be a bit taller IMO...but it is a beautiful set.

I’ve had the championship pieces for a dozen years or more. Mine are the golden rosewood variety. The set plates very well. I love it.

I love simple basic chess sets. However I prefer the French Lardy set over the German Knight set. Non the less your set is nice.

I think that's the best wooden set for actual players opposed to collectors. They look good but they're not fancy so you can focus on the game. They're pretty close to the model pro players use in ordinary tournaments, that is tournaments other than the candidates or the world championship match.

House of Staunton boxwood almost never fail in being a bit brown, not so white. This is an example. Great set!

Sup bro. I have the two sets (championship and 1972) and I wanted to ask you for your feedback. I love the Fischer-spassky set more than the championship but I feel the pawns are a bit too tiny compared to the championship. Same with the Fischer king being a little too slim. Did you noticed that as well?
