That is just freakin awesome. My parents are both blind and its a pain whenever they have to buy any new appliance. I have a Samsung washing machine that I am soon going to exchange for a new one and would love to give it to my parents but I cant as they cant use it because of this problem (that is actually how I found this video). Unfortunately I am not skilled enough to build something similar to that solution. I will investigate if there is any other more simple solution to make the machine acessible to them. Congratulations on your fantastic work.

As a totally blind person I think this is really awesome! I was just talking to some of my friends about the fact that I don't know of any talking washing machines well, I do now. It's really cool. Sucks you're not selling it yet though. You probably help a lot of blind people.

Hi CMP Variety. This video is part of an article describing the full construction of SOAP - The Talking Washing Machine Interface for the Blind. Please take a look - maybe someone could build such a device for you? I am a hobbyist in this field, so I am not in a position to manufacture and sell my creations at large scale! I did contact Samsung suggesting that produce a talking washing machine, but I had no reply. Here is a link to the Instructables article: www.instructables.com/id/Talking-Washing-Machine-Interface-for-the-Blind-AK/ Peter.

@@petermead8057 I'll give that a look at some point I can't at the moment though. Thanks. By the way good luck trying to get a hold of Samsung because quite frankly they're hard to get a hold of you can't even get a response from them. You already know that but I'm just saying I have the same issue. Wrote them about something else and they never did reply back. I hate businesses like that, the least they could do is write a message and say hey we got your feedback or whatever, but they just completely ignore us.

+Peter Mead I love that idea! I wonder if my company could make something similar for appliances like that. By the way, I love your accent! Is that British? I wonder if that machine works on dryers as well. Like your wife, I'm totally blind, and one thing I would love to design is a washing machine and dryer pair that can have as many cycles as you like. Wouldn't that be amazing?

Hi MsAussie. Yes, I am a Brit! I was born in the South West of England so have a rural accent but this has been modified over time after periods living in London and France. I would be pleased if your company could produce a similar device. SOAP was specifically designed to be an add-on so the warranty would not be broken but it would be much easier to wire a speech system into the machines. The KZread video is only part of the full article that appeared here: www.instructables.com/id/Talking-Washing-Machine-Interface-for-the-Blind-AK/ Please take a look at that - it has very detailed instructions on how to build SOAP. Wonderful idea, we just got a new Samsung washer, and I have to use a flashlight to see what I’m doing on it because it doesn’t have good knobs and I am visually impaired

Hi Starrk. Unfortunately that did not work. The washing machine always starts at the last programme that has run to conclusion or part way through. In this video it always went back to cotton because I did not start the wash cycle. Please see my instructable for the full explanation. We did try to come up with a low tech solution but were not successful. Thank you for your feedback. www.instructables.com

Oh, you built great device! But, did you considered a bit easier solution, like this: 1. Stick one more rubber pad on "Cotton" to mark this position 2. Make a simple rule: match pads on handle and on "Cotton" before turning machine on
