From my own experience chamois crème shouldn’t be needed if you have a good bikefit, the right saddle and a a good bibshorts. I stopped using it after these 3 were checked off ✅

using cream/fat used to be a thing when leather was used in your bibshort and needed fat to remain supple. Modern bibshorts don't need any, you're an idiot if you do, in fact it can cause irritation. If I have some irritation I use a small amount of coconut-oil on the spot. Works perfect and I have it in the kitchen anyway. I wouldn't use a spoon full over a whole year.

After nearly 35 years of cycling I have found a great combination to make your nether regions feel great while riding in any weather and distance. First I use a lanolin based diaper rash ointment on my crotch and anywhere on my arse that gets rubbed when riding. This creates an antibiotic moisture barrier that lasts and lasts. Rub it in good. Then I use a small amount of chamois cream on the pads of my cycling shorts. This combination hasn’t failed me yet and I ride in 90-100 degree temps here in south Florida. Also, never, never trust a washing machine to clean your shorts. Wash them by hand with hot water and good quality soap and make sure they are rinsed thoroughly.

In US drugstores I've seen a product for dry skin called "Bag Balm" which I assumed had it's origins in a type of udder cream. I imagine there 's any number of farm and ranch supply stores in the US and Canada that have a lot of similar products.
