Is 2008 close to the same? I think both my tail lights are out. Only the parking lights seem to work and my left brake light is out.
Bought new replacements and was confused why they didn’t close…thank you for this you saved me a HUGE headache haha
I chased a rattle in the trunk of my 2001 Miata for weeks. It only happened sporadically and was hard to reproduce. Turns out it was the Torsion bars for the trunk lid hinges. They are held apart by plastic clips that weaken over time and allow the torsion bars to come out. Mine were vibrating at a frequency created only at certain RPM's when driving down the road. At those conditions, they come in contact with each other which results in a very annoying rattle that came and went. I managed to get them back in the clips, but they are not very securely held, so I also put some stiff foam between them to keep them apart. Hope that helps someone else because none of the videos or discussion threads I found suggested this problem. Maybe I have the one car that does this?
never did the part 4?
Yes the rims are from a M edition Miata but the center caps I believe are off of a rx-7 because Miata’s came with a BBS graphic while the RX-7 came with the Mazda graphic, I’m pretty sure I could be wrong:)
You would think they'd put like a warning sticker or something.
Why is mine not moving how yours did when I push on it? I’ve loosened the other bolts
If all of the bolts are loose (including the lower pivot bolt), you may need to use a pry bar to move the alternator.
My soft girly hands could not break the decades old OEM bolt free 😢 mold problem: only partially resolved
Uploaded 4 years ago n still helping people out 👌
Thank you sir 🫡
I have followed this same concept several times over- it does work. You do have to be judicious and gentle, but it will work.
1:25 correction to clear a lot of confusion. The small bolt on the right is for short nose AND long nose, the bolt on the left is for big nose cranks. There is a big difference between the three
Let's get readdddyyyyy to rumblllllleeeeee...
My outside CATS get along just fine with BOTH Raccoons & Possums although I don't COOP ...
Cool video and super nice explanation! Ty❤❤
did you have to redo your coolant system after the installation?
Very little coolant leaked out.
@@MiataMan perfect, thank you for getting back to me ! im currently chasing an high idle issue atm so im replacing as i go haha
Bro seat removal for all NA's is NOT equal. I had one connector in the front and one dirty aftermarket speaker wire ran with no disconnect except behind the radio stack so I elected not to pull the trim to get at it. Also, the factory bolts were a nightmare for me. I had to go up to about a 20 inch extension combo and a breaker bar to pop the bolts loose. I really had to grunt hard til it popped loose scaring me that I sheared the bolt. Phew. Also, after I got all four out and disconnected the front wire I went to lift the seat out I found out the seat belt is connected to the seat rail I think. I was able to lift my seat just high enough to prop on a paint can so I could cinche down my new seat cover straps and hook the side straps as well as run a shop vac underneathe the best I could. When you say "nice and easy, one of the easiest jobs you can do on a Miata" I am gonna have to disagree there. I could remove a crankcase and replace the gasket faster than that. Though I did use your never sieze grease idea incase I need to remove them again cause I torqued them back in well, so thanks there.
I’ve been there on a couple and feel your pain. Sometimes the easiest jobs can quickly turn in to a nightmare.
where did you get the wing??
It was on the car from day one. It’s an original from 1990. I believe that R-Speed reproduced them in modern times.
Does this work for a single light not working?
If just one light is acting up, it is like the motor.
To Miata Man, can I replace the old and big classic looking steering wheel to my 2000 Miata. If yes, do I need a Hub for it?
I’m not totally sure. In theory, it should bolt up. The problem will be the horn and the loss of airbag.
Thankyou a very good and clear video.
You are welcome!
Does this make the engine light go off? I have code p0850 thinking this is my problem. If I bypass it will it go away
I haven’t had an engine light come one due to the clutch switch.
What about if the plug its slef broke?
If the connector is broken, you can snip it off and crimp a female spade connector to the wire. Put some dielectric grease on it to ward off corrosion.
What a great video. It was a huge help in replacing mine. I suggest two things- it's a little easier to remove the screw holding the ignition switch in by taking the three screws out of the cowl surrounding the steering shaft . It gives an extra half inch of room to get the screw out (even when using a tool similar to yours I needed that smidge of extra space). Also, I ordered a part specifically for the 1990 NA Miata from Amazon but found it didn't work (the electrical connector was slightly different). It's amazing how many vendors sell this same part claiming it fits the NA Miata. It doesn't. If you can, remove the switch from the car and visually verify the part you're ordering has the right connector.
Thanks 🙏
@@MiataMan Do you do Super Thanks?
Not sure what “super thanks” are.
@@MiataMan It allows people like me to send you money, to thank you. Essentially like tipping. Look into it.
End result looks great, very surprised. I think if someone has gone thru polishing headlights, maybe add some protection? Ceramic or clear coat perhaps.
Does it mean that I have a code when it’s just on solid?
Yes 👍
Bet it has a clean title!
I went with the genuine OEM spoons. Only $150 but wow, very impressive.
do you have to disconnect the battery when swapping the relays out?
I don’t.
@@MiataMan thank you
Thanks for the Tutorial, Man! Really helpful!
Glad it helped!
Very nice shame you couldn't keep the air filter a way from the exhaust heaters
I did the same speaker replacement. I was very pleased with the simply installation and the quality of the speakers.
No se puede conseguir ese resorte
And if you don't want to strip the head of the screw out use "JIS" screwdriver bits.
Good point 👍 I’ve been meaning to grab a set of JIS screwdrivers.
I have a 1990 miata and the clutch switch is in front (drivers compartment) of the clutch pedal arm with what I believe would be a plunger switch that the plunger comes out when the clutch is depressed. Is this right? I don't see any plunger coming out now. It also looks like the switch is threaded through the mounting bracket with an adjusting nut also. Am I right on this?
There are actually two switches on the clutch pedal. The one at the top that allows the car to start when the clutch pedal is deployed. The other is at the bottom of the pedal stroke and sends a signal to the ECU that the clutch is engaged.
What gauge wire did you use for the bypass jumper?
I think it was 16 G gauge.
I would not recommend using a single jackstand as appears to be the case in this video.
If you bypass this with the jumper. Will the engine light remain on? Mine is showing Code: P0704 " Fault in Clutch Switch". Otherwise, I guess I will replace the switch if the jumper does not clear the code. Thanks!
Not sure. I haven’t hade a P0704!yet. Let us know what happens 👍
@@MiataManI have code P0850 for park/neutral switch circuit. Mines the 6 speed 2002 miata. Will the code stay off if I bypass or should I get the switch replaced for the code to go away completely?
OMG, that is exactly 1 of my 2 main problems on my 1990 miata 1.6. I cleaned each one of those parts that you teplaced, the rough looping idle wasn't fixed. However, a few months before this problem happened, i had removed all the carpet in order to put sound deadening matts & heat shield, to cover all the floor. I noticed my computer (ECM) is located on the passenger inner firewall, just bellow the heater core, at the passengers tip-toes. Thats why the metal shield covers the ecm to protect it & so the passenger doesnt feel that square lump under the carpet. From 1991 or 92, & later models, the ECM is located at the back wall behind the passenger sest, at least 12 inches above the floor in order to protect it from pools of water, ot especially from a clogged heater core that leacks water from condensation from using the AC. I noticed after removing the carpet, that the lower part of the ECM shield was rusted, as well as the holdinf bracket, & the lower one inch of the ECM. Fine, no problem, the idle still worked fine for about a year. But rust being the metal cancer that it is, must have spread on my ECM throughout that year, finally affecting the engine idle like in your miata. What i want to kick myself on the azz for, is that i had gotten the ECM last week from a wrecked Miata in San Bernardino. But since i had racked up already $350 on miata parts, i decidet to forego the ECM. Now im kicking myself on the azz.. And you csnt trust ECM sellers out there on ebay or Offer Up. But i have no choice now. Those clogged up outlets mesnt to allow water to flow out of vehicles, like also on the miata convertible sides, are notoriius for causing rust provlems. Those rusted corners of the rear tire wells is due to gloged outlet holes and rubber lines that extend from the top of the convertible sides, to the lower rear tire well corners.
"I'd be hanging my arm out the window but yeah, no power steering"
Would this not be the same for 1994?
It would be similar. However, the parts are different from 94-97.
That’s not a bad swap at all. I’m wanting to go with a 13b rotary set up. Battery location is factory.
What size were the puller bolts
Replaced the slave cylinder in my sons 01, which the previous owner said he changed everything 10k miles back. Fluid was as black as a tire.... Figuring I was about to replace a clutch came across your video. replaced the master cylinder, boys car is back on the road and he said the pedal had never felt that tight. Thanks for the video and saving me a couple of grand..
Excellent! I happy it helped 😎
Great video but I am concerned about torque on the bolts. Why not use a proper wrench?
Do you have a carpet removal and stuff behind the seats? I took mine apart months ago and I’m confused now and don’t want to miss anything
Mine were plugged but no water came out . Thank you!
Glad I could help
Temu, $47/set. For Miata 1990-2005. Clips are included
I have that pressure checker too. This helped
Huge help, just what I needed when I needed it, that connector was making me a little crazy! 😂
Glad it helped!
