ThatVideoMakingKid

My name is Josh Ruble.
I create onscreen lyric videos to songs of the band Evanescence. There are no pictures so the words are clearly visible and easy to see and follow along with. I use what I believe to be fun and creative font that I feel matches the mood and themes of the songs and their artist. Additionally, I try to keep the fonts in fun, varying colors to keep each video fresh and original in its own right, and the animations unique and different while still fitting with the lyrics and themes of the songs. My main goal is to create lyric videos for songs and bands that I love that are fun, creative, expressive, along with being easy and enjoyable to watch. Enjoy!

My nephew liked a video with clips of "The Ring" relating to the lyrics. After a few plays I started liking the melody in "oh I , I want to go back to..." and then I listened to it myself and didn't realize a message related to my empathic thoughts...what a masterpiece! Why is this not on Spotify?!

LIFE IS NOT A PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED, BUT A REALITY TO BE EXPERIENCED. - SOREN KIERKEGAARD Evanescence blends various musical styles in their music, primarily rock, classical, alternative, heavy metal, industrial, and electronic. Music journalists vary in terming Evanescence a rock or metal band, and many identify gothic elements in their music. The band is generally classified as alternative metal, gothic rock, gothic metal, and hard rock. Other genres used to describe the band's sound over the years include industrial rock, symphonic metal, nu metal, and symphonic rock. Evanescence have also incorporated other styles in their music, including several forms of electronic music, progressive rock, R&B, soul, trip hop, and Eastern music. The band cites Garbage, Living Sacrifice, Type O Negative, Portishead, Counting Crows and Sarah McLachlan as musical influences. The music was compared to that of Lacuna Coil, with less aggressive instrumental playing, and to that of Linkin Park, albeit “with a female voice”. Initially Evanescence was assigned to the Christian rock scene. Although Amy Lee says she is a Christian, Evanescence as a band has distanced itself from the Christian music scene since the release of their album Fallen. Meanwhile, in their metal encyclopedia, Rosenberg and Krovatin assign Hellraisers to the wave of success of Nu Metal. The music played uses elements of nu and alternative metal, in the form of modern and guitar-heavy rock music, which the group features with the “expressive, often melancholic-powerful vocals of Amy Lee, […] interspersed with one or two synth sounds and one slight tendency towards ballads.” Although the group is referred to as Gothic Metal due, among other things, to their popularity in the black scene and their corresponding appearance, they keep their distance from the Gothic scene. “We’re not goth kids. Our music is inspired from a variety of sources, we love Björk, but more than anything we are into orchestral music.” There are also no musical overlaps with the independent style of Gothic Metal. In genre representations, the band is even cited as an example of foreign uses of style terms in the black scene and especially in gothic metal music. Amy Lee, Ben Moody, and David Hodges have writing credits on this song. Hodges sings backup vocals. The story of Romeo and Juliet - as well as the Claire Danes/Leonardo DiCaprio movie version of it - may be an inspiration for this song. Original versions of Origin feature an "Anywhere" outtake in which Hodges sings the chorus horridly. The outtake can be accessed by rewinding the CD from the 30-second "Origin" intro that starts the album. In a Reddit AMA thread in 2016, Amy said that when she listens to the song, she can picture "a Renaissance fair date" The Origin vinyl features the official version, as part of the Ultimate Collection box set.

Fallen received generally positive reviews from music critics. Johnny Loftus of AllMusic wrote that the album “does include flashes of the single's PG-rated nu-metal ('Everybody's Fool,' 'Going Under'). But it's the symphonic goth rock of groups like Type O Negative that influences most of Fallen." Entertainment Weekly, graded the album B-minus: "The genre now too old to be called nü-metal isn't exactly overflowing with spine-tinglingly great vocalists - let alone female ones. Amy Lee, lead singer of gloomy Arkansas rockers Evanescence, is an exception." Kirk Miller of Rolling Stone said that "when vocalist Amy Lee croons about lying 'in my field of paper flowers' or 'pouring crimson regret,' she gives Fallen a creepy spiritual tinge that the new-metal boys lack." Billboard's Christa Titus called the album a "highly polished, hook-filled affair." Melissa Maerz of Spin gave it four out of five stars: "Nu metal gets a powdering of Andrew Lloyd Webber theatrics as Lee aces her piano A-levels, adds a string section, and tackles capital letter issues - God ('Tourniquet'), Love ('Going Under'), and Death ('Bring Me To Life') - with the grandeur they deserve." Adrien Begrand of PopMatters opined that the album "has a small handful of transcendent moments, but a complete lack of musical adventurousness has the band mucking around either in stultifying nu-metal riffage, pretentious high school journal caterwauling, or even worse, both." Begrand praised Lee's "soaring, enchanting, angelic" voice, writing that "Evanescence would be nothing" without her. Christopher Gray of the Austin Chronicle found the album to be "a little too by the numbers to fully capitalize on Lee's obvious talents."According to Village Voice critic Robert Christgau, "Their faith, as embodied in Amy Lee's clarion sopralto [sic], lends their goth-metal a palpable sweetness". He jokingly concluded, "Now if only it wasn't goth-metal at all." In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked Fallen number 99 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time", calling it an "unlikely classic" with "a horror-movie-level ambience that was as chilling as it was campy".

Amy Lee wrote the song in 1996 about a hypothetical of loving someone so much that you'd bring them back from the dead. It's 1 of 5 pre-Fallen songs to be played on radio. Additionally, "Even In Death" is the only pre-Fallen song to ever be performed live on radio. Amy re-recorded the song for the compilation album Lost Whispers. The intro uses a sample from White Zombie's "Ratfinks, Suicide Tanks and Cannibal Girls", which was released four years prior. The same sample was also used later in "Snow White Queen" from 2006's The Open Door. The song also features a clip from the movie "The Crow". Amy's quote about the song from a 2004 Metal Edge magazine interview: "It's interesting - I don't understand why, but it's more sexual, not necessarily in the lyrical content, but just in the feel of the music for me, the song seems really sexual. I have no good reason for that, but that has always been that song for me, it's cool because that song is kind of different. The song wasn't written from life experience, it was basically just a cool story." Ben's quote about the song from that 2003 interview: "That was so long ago...I was like eighteen, and we just found this little loop thing, and we just thought it sounded really cool and crazy and we thought it would be really cool to build a song around it. Then, one day, Amy and I thought about someone who's in a relationship, they lose their loved one, and they kind of flip out, and they go and dig them up, kind of like [Tom Petty's ]"Mary Jane's Last Dance" - We kind of thought we'd take that one step further." In the Metal Edge interview, when asked why the song wasn't on Fallen, Amy said: "Well, we have a lot of songs that I think are pretty good that didn't make it on the record. That's one of my favorites that didn't make it, one out of maybe six." In 2016, speaking about the Origin demo and her re-recording of the song on Lost Whispers, Amy stated that the song was 20 years old, from 1996, and stated: "That song was a little bit of storytelling about not wanting to accept the death of your loved one and just going nuts-to the point that I would go out and dig up the grave. We rerecorded it for the box set because the only recording I had was a rough demo from [when I was] a kid. [The album it’s on,] Origin, is made up of very old embarrassing journal pages from middle school. [The new version of] “Even in Death” is still a cool song; it honors the things I loved about the original, but it’s now in a beautiful light that speaks to who I am today. It feels like redemption." "Even in Death" was remade for the compilation album Lost Whispers and specifically for the release of The Ultimate Collection box set. The instrumentals of the remake are solely piano-based with a cello (by Dave Eggar) playing occasionally in the background. Amy on the re-recording of the song: I looked through Origin for the first time in many years this year, through this experience, and that song has always been one that has a good heart and I still like the lyrics. [But] our old recording of it is really bad, it’s us as kids with whatever we can find to record with. I think that’s the hardest part for me. You can always redo production but lyrics are lyrics; if the lyrics are dumb, I just can’t get my head around enjoying it. I think that ‘Even in Death’ has some beautiful lyrics that actually are very much in the art and vision of what Evanescence grew into. So I took that song and redid it with my collaborator friend Dave Eggar, on cello, in New York, and we made this really different version that I love. It just felt like redeeming the song.

I dont know how she comes up with so many songs with different rifts but still all heart-tug worthy. I've always been so happy with myself for being able to sing the "who you really are" part of this song pitch perfect.
