    As long as you find a good deal on it then yes, but if you feel it’s too expensive, then it is too expensive and keep looking. It’s an old car now, it will need a lot of maintenance and up keep which is hard to do when you’re younger and need something reliable every day.

    Bought my 04 new and would never sell. I feel like I have something special on the road. Uncommon. I know people are thinking ‘nice’ or rediscovering when they see a lowered excellent condition Celica. Besides exotics, what looks better?

    from your outro you mentioned you want to swap in a 1jz vvti. if you are going to engine swap, why not put in a 2jz from an aristo for example?

  • @MateoM
    @MateoMАй бұрын

    I solely want a 1JZ vvti for the sound and noise it makes, nothing else lol. I know the 2JZ is a better engine and can make more power but that doesn’t interest me. Also the vvti comes single turbo stock which really simplifies things.

    @@MateoM how can you put a x100 engine in an x90 chassis? Would you need a link ecu for an x100 and then figure out the pins that are different coming from the x90 harness?

  • @MateoM
    @MateoMАй бұрын

    The engine will fit exactly where it needs to be so no new mounts or anything. It’s just wiring changes. People in Japan and a few JZX90s here have a vvtis in their 90s running stock ECU. One route I’ve heard but have not done myself is to get if you have a jzx110 1jz, a harness from JZS171 crown, 2j vvti ecu, and find a different plug for the maf wire and it was good to go. I’m sure there’s much more involved but that’s the basic idea. Depending how complex this gets, it may be easier/more time efficient to just get a new engine harness made from scratch from panic wiring and run a standalone and call it good.

    What I meant by Pricing expensive is it’s a big price step up from what others may be used too. Going on Amazon/ebay and getting a front lip for $50-$100, to having to get a body kit shipped from Japan for $2500 is big difference. Not only body pieces but specific items as well. There are actually celica's without sunroofs, uncommon but they are out there. It is very true that a lot of these cars are high mileage or riced out but that is one of the reasons that I like them because the few people that do really care can make them into really nice looking cars. Also they are rare so it's nice to see the taken care of ones. Mine has a bunch of modifications and isn't in the best shape just needs minor body work but the absolute worst part of these cars but by far is the 6 speed c60, Great transmission for shifting but not durability as I'm on my third transmission and about to rebuild it at 130k miles. Also that is definitely a pre-facelift model based on the front bumper and interior color would recommend swapping out to the ECU if you have the 2002 ECU ending in PN #20190 as lift is severely lessened in that model year.

  • @MateoM

    Awesome! Thank you for all the info. Maybe one day I’ll run into one without a sunroof. Maybe more common on the gt model as they are “lower trim”? And yes I agree the people who held on to these and made them nice, have kept them REALLY nice. However that won’t fix the c60 trans issue haha. What sort of failures are you getting with them? Destroying gears, synchros dying? And sweet, noted for the front bumper. I swear my original one looked different besides the lip. And I confirmed, the ecu is definitely the one with the higher rev limit, thank you for the part number! So much info I’m relearning while getting back into this platform.

  • @ComplexityMCSG

    @@MateoMbought my Celica with an issue with the shifter cables and spacing on the 6th gear causing it to pop out when throttle is applied, pretty common issue. Second transmission had busted gears that I bought for $100 and rebuilt, that one eventually got fluid starved due to an oversight of mine, third transmission and current transmission is a low mileage transmission from a Pontiac vibe GT that I swapped the internals to a Celica transmission case. Most common issues are second gear will tend to grind if shifted at high RPMs often, third gear is probably one of the weakest gears, and sixth gear has been known to pop out on quite a few celica's due to a spacing issue with the synchro & gear against the shift hub. Would highly recommend doing an extended clutch fork push rod, short throw shifter, and brass shifter bushings it really improves the shifting feel in my opinion. I'm going to rebuild my transmission again soon and get a fidanza lightweight flywheel as well. Good stuff that you have the correct ECU I just flipped two of them for a nice profit they are somewhat rare. I know you probably have more general experience than I do but if you have any questions about Celica stuff I have an Instagram and can put you in contact with people who have parts and or information on transmission specifics. The exact same spec as my Celica, glad to see you posting Celica content again, have had my Celica for 5 years. Missed the 2zz I bet but forgot about the c60 problems lol

    Haha I remember all too well the issues with the c60 and especially the gear synchros. No issues on mine… yet lol.
