Rabbi, I’ve a question. In Biblical times, when we Jews lived in tribes, what tribe did a convert belong to? The place where a Jew lived (in tribal times) depended on what tribe the Jew belonged to - so, where was a convert allowed to live?

What you said was Tosfos was actually Rashi. Tosfos interpretation is actually a good one, that converts are difficult for Israel bc converts are extra meticulous and scrupulous and pious in mitzvot

The Problem with Convertism is to be solved according Ephesian Chapter 2. Even Jews have to change their mind. Gentiles can't convert to judaism, its nonsense.

The irony is that, the rabbis from the twelve century were already gentiles, descendants from their Turkish Khazar fathers, who were proselytes themselves. So, how can we explain the posture of fake Jews towards others who want to become "Jews"? I look at the American gilded age and I see something similar. We had the already established Americans descendents from Europeans, showing resentment towards the new Europeans that just arrived.

"Another approach that appears in that Tosafot is quoted in the name of “Avraham HaGer” - Abraham the proselyte. He says that this Gemara should be understood to mean that since converts are meticulously careful in their fulfillment of the commandments - much more than other Jews - the comparison puts non-converts in a bad light, which is why the converts are viewed as painful for the Jewish people." Had the Rabbi of the nearest Chabad Center tell me this as a reason that I shouldn't come to the shul for anything in our talk about my wife and I desiring to convert. Notably that the community there isn't very observant at all such as they drive cars and do all sorts of things on Shabbat. My argument is, why then wouldn't you want us there? If nothing else would it not push the others to fall in alignment? Suffice to say, this has been the attitude for every shul within a hour range from us. So no Rabbi to learn from means no Rabbi to endorse for the Beit Din. I understand Jeremiah so much better now.

Considering Israel today - a person would have to be insane to want to convert to Judaism. If you do, prepare to have Jewish Rabbi rules to dominate your life and permitted beliefs. Look up the definition of "Judaism" in the Dictionary. Closely note that near the end it says they interpret scripture by the Rabbi's interpretations - which often defy what the Bible says. One example is the Land and the Temple. All those things were fulfilled way back. Just read Joshua through 2 Samuel. The numbers as the stars in heaven, taking the whole land, diaspora to other nations, the return and building the Temple in Ezra/Nehemiah - it's all been fulfilled LONG ago folks. Judaism is a religion of rites and rituals and traditions - of the Rabbi. God gave 10 Decrees, blessings, and curses - not 613 or 7. They don't even know their own book. PS - they also altered or made up much of their "Tanach" - not to even mention the Talmud. Read "The Origins of Judaism."

The first jew was Adam, he was created circumcised, Abraham had the faith to reconnect with God, so to him was given the signal of reconection with God which is the circumcision. Anydoby who has faith in God and keep his word and his covenant is welcomed by God...the rabbis kidnapp the whole concept and invented the noahide laws to keep the world away from God and the true family of Abraham´s faith.

THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CONVERT WHO HAS NOT SPENT TIME LEARNING. THERE ARE NOT SUCH PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUE CONVERT WHO COMES FROM A FAMILY IN HIDING. THOSE FAMILIES CONTINUED TO PASS DOWN JEWISH TORCH OF LIGHT. IT IS IN OUR DNA/SOUL THAT WE ARE LOVERS OF HASHEM.

I found both speakers to be excellent. Pamela illumined how the Psalms can be a part of a personal relationship with God and exhibit personal human struggles. That was beautiful. And the scholarship of Stephen was beautiful too as it showed how a deeper understanding that is academic can shine a light on meanings that we miss in our current understanding of Psalms. I look forward to his commentary in the Hermeneia series. I hope to find there information on text critical variants in the Qumran manuscripts and Septuagint with specific citation.
