    2 years later, and it seems like Canyon has not fixed the issue with their size chart and "Find Your Size" feature. I know for a fact that I'm supposed to be in a large bike, but Canyon is recommending me a medium. The setup & sizing issues are the price we pay for an affordable bike. Like they say, "If it's too good to be true, it more than likely is".

    i had the same issue when i wanted to order my first canyon full suspension a few months ago, i was between neuron and spectral. The calculator and the charts showed me that i needed and S neuron and an M Spectral (M was the smallest size for spectral). I am also 1.7m and i spent like weeks trying to find out which bike fits the best. On the charts i was like towards the end of the S and near the start of the M so i decided to buy the Spectral M 29. I agree with you now, probably the neuron with 430 reach would have been a lot smaller, the M Spectral has a 456 reach. Kudos to all the MTB pros out there on ytb that recommended to size up if you are between sizes for a mtb !

    I ended up getting a size M (I'm 179cm tall with an inseam of 83cm). Most brands would recomend a longer bike and I think they are correct. The size M feels good on flatter terrain, easy to bunny hop and manual, however, once it gets steep and fast I start to feel like I'm on top of the bike rather than in the bike. I haven't tried the size L, so i cannot say for sure that I would like its compromises better (less agile), there's still the chance that if rode both bikes I would end up prefering to give up the stability of the size L for the maneuverability of the size M since I'm not trying to win any races and I do like how agile the bike is when I'm not riding the gnarly stuff. The one time I went to a race on a very steep and technical track I felt like I had to lean very far back to keep the rear tire on the ground, which was very tiring. Also, the 150mm dropper post is too short for me, I plan to get a 180mm dropper. In short, if you are close to my size and care more for the fast and gnarly descents, definitely go for the large. But if you intend to use the bike on flatter and flowier terrain, maybe the medium will be enough bike for you. Still, if I could go back I would definitely try to find a bike with similar geometry to test it before buying.

    after reading all the common, I figure 180cm or 5"11 guys really have hard time to find a bike that fits. I actually have 2 hardtails, one is M with 450 reach, another is L with 470 reach, honestly, both bikes feel wrong in certain situations. the L feels great on general riding, both climb or down, but a bit uncomfortable cruising on flat or initiate manual or bunny hop. The Medium one feels great on concrete or hiking trails, but a bit on edge when riding challenging tech stuff , feels too over the front wheel when descending, front wheel has the tendency to lift when climb, and handle bar are too close to legs in corner.

TBH gotta go with reach/ wheelbase numbers more than whoever's sizing charts but yes no less frustrating

My hardtail is a size medium an feels slightly short when pedaling, the size Small has a 20 mm shorter top tube so i’m going to feel cramped. My final decision is to go with size medium and put 2 extra 10mm spacers under the stem, that should reduce reach to 450 aprox and should be spot on.

    I wanted this bike so much. It checked all the boxes and the price is amazing. I noticed right away that the sizing on the website was off. I'm 175 cm and the numbers on the small didnt look right to me at all. I still wrote to customer service and it took a couple days before i had an answer but they assured me i was small size frame. I wanted to get to the bottom of this. Luckily a guy i know received his small size spectral. As soon as i sat on the bike i knew the size was completely wrong for me. Also his brakes were'nt bled properly. The weight of the bike felt uneven when lifting it up. And that plastic spacer on the headset. Wtf is that! Apparently it causes problems and scratches the frame (vibrates) if you dont change it out. I was so turned off by it all already. Not to mention Canyon has had frame problems in the past. Now seeing reddits from unlucky customers with frame issues on 2020 models and Canyon not honoring their warranty. This review also adds more to it all. I mean its a pretty bad mistake to push wrong sizing on direct consumer sales. I'm steering clear of this company. I feel like i dodged a massive bullet. Something that seems too good to be true usually is.

I own a mondraker dune and I've never fallen in love with it because it's way to long in medium size, I don't wanna make the same mistake. For my taste, 450mm is the right reach to get a nimble bike but still planted and centered. I have a Bird zero tr hardtail that fits like a glove on me, 447 reach

    Hi Bastien . I'm about the same size like you. 170 cm tall and 80 cm inseam. The website tool the Canyon gives on their website is a kind of poor. Since I live nearby Koblenz, I went there to try the S and M sizes. First of all, I realized that the inseam i measured myself was about 76 cm instead of 80 cm measured at Canyon. But still with 80 cm I was the S size. Putting 81 to their sizing tool showed the size M.... Then I tried S and M. The S was kind of short and really unstable in turns. To get the handle bar I had to move myself by about 5cm from the neutral position so the sitting position was such that from the start I was falling on my face. The M size was a different story, simply much more comfortable in any aspect. Being 170 cm tall and 80 cm inseam, please go for M not S. The conclusion I made is following:buing the bike online and being in the middle between sizes is on your own risk. Doing that you should be smarter than the folks making that sizing tools on any online seller websites. Ask on forums, YT before clicking the "buy" button. You are blaming Canyon for the poor sizing tool but in my case (buying the first MTB in my life) the better website would not help at all in case I'm in between the sizes. I'm not sure what you would then recommend in this case to a buyer and seller. I don't thing this is easy without trying the bike...

    Let me set the record straight. In order to win the Mountain of Hell, the most important factor is that you need to have a really cool sounding name. Like Damien or Killian or even two first names will do the trick, like Stefan Peter. This is paramount to even have a shot at the top 5 places. If you dont believe me, look at the surfer competetive community in comparison. All the winners are named Brody, Chad and so on. The same effect applies to the extreme mountain bike competetive community. There, I am happy to share my knowledge.

    You had the opportunity to compare measurements against a YT and a Meta you have owned and still you ordered against your own common sense. As if your reach or inseam might have miraculously shortened. Blaming canyon about it would have been understandable if you had to order blind like many of us do, but I feel this is really a rant. I do agree Canyon should follow the specialised sizing guidelines. That is better. Some people fall between sizes, but this you also knew... and just couldn't wait a few extra months for a size M. You can send it back, fantastic right?! get over it.

  • @BastienChanot
    @BastienChanot2 жыл бұрын

    Happy we agree on what direction Canyon should take for the measurements! At the time or ordering the delays were the same for the S and M. I ordered based on both the website and their customer service phone agents. Your point about my own experience is a bit fallacious as I could have ordered a size outside of their recommendations and if I’d also complained about it you could as well have told me that I should have complied with their guide 👈. My (our) job, as customers (or prosumers) is to trust a brand on their expertise. As advanced as I am i don’t have the pretentious attitude of thinking I know what’s the absolute best for me against an army of engineers. Most brands get it right, Canyon didn’t. As their recommendations is fundamentally flawed despite our trust then we should point it out - which I did. Feel free to see how many people followed my recommendation about the size and are super grateful. None of them actually complained but few like you have been judgmental for no reason. If my mistake helped others avoid it then I’m pretty glad I did it. You’re welcome.

  • @GD-uv6lc
    @GD-uv6lc2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the fast reply. The argument is flawed. An army of engineers does not know your dimensions and preferences, only you do. It is absurd to trust a tool that only takes 2 measurements especially when you may fall between sizes. It is great that you have helped people not make the same mistake. You could have done that in a one minute video though and not the rant that I subjected myself only to conclude: overall the bike is great, be careful on size.

  • @BastienChanot
    @BastienChanot2 жыл бұрын

    I didn't only trust the tool; I also took the time to contact their customer service both by phone and email. Their answers were categoric and wrong on the 3 channels despite explaining my situation, previous and prefered bikes etc. Also; how absurd is it to trust (or judge) a tool (or a CS team) requiring 2 measurements and getting you a consistently wrong answer when others like YT or Propain gives you the right recommendation and all the subtilities that goes with it with only 1 measurement and 1 chart? Sorry but no excuse for Canyon here when others are doing a better job with less data. As per the length of the video it is thoroughly decomposed by chapters to avoid anyone spending more time than needed on specific issues; being positives or negatives about the bike. You could also have jumped directly on the conclusion. I'm talking about much more than just the size here.

I agree that the value is immense with this Spectral 29 and that its qualities are real especially on the CF8 as it can be pushed hard, and those sweet carbon rims may not be up to the task. I'm lucky my LBS had a T2 Yeti SB150 size M that they sold me at -30%. I couldn't be happier with it. Hope the bike will suit you well and that you'll enjoy it as much as it's humanly possible!
