Dammit this is the perfect solution to keeping 50 some cats (cat rescue) cool vs the obscene A/C bills I am paying per month now. 400+ dollars. But these are OOS. Oh well looks another 1200 dollars to the scum borough electric for this summer.

This kind of thing really shits me, it is a scam when your being charged 100+ more times than the parts cost and it couldn't take more than 20 minutes to complete. 150 bucks max should be about right.

The weak point for the mini split is condensation. Mine (in the Texas Hill Country) gets condensation everywhere which becomes mildew on the inside fan blades - everywhere. Cleaning it is a lot of hassle requiring disassembly and taping plastic drainage guides under it to keep the mildewey rinse water from going all over. Can this exterior system be plumbed into a central air system to cool the whole house?

Five years ago, I spent $18,000 to replace my two house units. I bought two top of the line 20 seer Lennox units. Biggest mistake of my life! JUNK! I’ve already spent over $5000 in repairs over the last five years. Sure the parts are covered but the labor is brutal. Never buy a LENNOX! You have been warned!!!

I think this guy is getting a kick back from the online retailer. DO NOT BUY online unless you can or have a quality person who is willing to install it. Why would a guy or company install products you purchased and paid a markup to another company? Online products are typically sold through out of state distributors, I have heard of local distributors not wanting to handle warranty claims on products they didn’t sell or profit from. Do you blame them? Don’t get hung up on a brand , all manufacturers have low end equipment on up to top tier. Higher end equipment is more complex and will cost more to repair once the warranty is up. Higher end equipment tends to be more about comfort and noise levels. The cost vs savings most of the time won’t pay out over the life of the system. Build a relationship with a responsible contractor who doesn’t gouge their customers and purchase what he recommends, he likely has a good relationship with the distributor who takes care of him and that will benefit you too. I personally don’t care for Trane but there is a reason they don’t sell online. They spent a lot of money building their brand which would get ruined if they let people install it who don’t know what they’re doing. I have worked in the industry for 30+ years and now work for a commercial real estate owner. Lastly put your favorite brand name followed by class action lawsuit in a google search. It saddens me to say one of the nicest pieces of equipment I see today is made by the Chinese and marketed under the name Bosch. Ultimately I have had reasonable performance from every brand it really is about the care and quality workmanship of the installation.

I had one like that in the late 60's. It was the reverse design though, where the window came down between the units. It was old and made a lot of noise and dripped water in the house (apartment) but it cooled just fine.

This thing sucks compared to the Midea u shaped. I have owned a few Mideas and one of these. My GE lasted 3 months and went to the scrapyard after two failed repairs. It is louder and uses more power than the Midea.

Had a relative that had her A/C go out in the peak of summer and couldnt wait for me to check it out so called some place that adverised a $99 maintenance special. The so-called tech went into her attic with no tools or test equipment and told her that the blower motor was bad and he just happened to have that "hard to get" part on his truck and he could give it to her for $800! She called me and I told her to send the guy on his way and wait for me to look at it. I brought my tools and meter and determined it was the capacitor. I got her one at a supply house for $7, put it in and she was back up and running! Unfortunately there is a large percentage of dishonest "techs" with no integrity!

Word of advice, if you have a plastic drain valve on your water heater and its over 6 years old be prepared for it to never close up again and leak all over if you open it. Best to drain the heater down and replace the valve with a brass one to be able to do these flushes regularly. A lot of times those plastic valves will either not close fully or leak from behind. Never had a brass one leak from behind, and if it does leak a little you can cap them off easily.

That capacitor you’re using is a cheap Chinese knockoff. No wonder it cost $10. Let me guess… Amazon. lol As a professional you should be using a good quality American made capacitor. If a home owner wants to go that route, that’s ok it’ll get them by but they don’t hold up as well over time. I will agree that there are a lot of companies out there that do over charge for them and everything else they sell. And unfortunately many of them even use the cheap one you do on top of it.

Not in australia governments make u pay to renew every licence under the free sun. They need the money to support wars around the world that have nothing to do with them. But they can just make up money into so called debt so I think the renew system is just to piss off workers more.

Someone did, I believe it was Electrohome. I had a model in the late 1980s that was probably made in the early 1970s. It featured push button controls. It also had two separate fans because of its unusual design. The unit you're looking at is very similar to, and perhaps made by Midea..

I changed a capacitor once. Very easy to do. My bad capacitor was swollen, like a bad can of soda, so it wasn't even necessary to use a multimeter.

When mine failed I called for service. While I was waiting I checked power and breakers and finally the capacitor. When the tech pulled up I told him it was the capacitor. He poked and prodded and of course dismissed what I said. Fifteen minutes later he announced, “I think it’s the capacitor!”. He then charged me around $850. I wrote an email to the company stating that since the cap only costs around $20 I can’t see you marking it up more than to say $50. Based on that, I calculated their labor rate to be $3200/hour. So, I said, “my question was is, are you hiring?” The next morning they called to tell me “oops. It’s under warranty and there is no charge “. So not only were they going to scam me for the cap, they were going to double bill the manufacturer!
