    I’m so happy to find your favorable review of Studio 60. I thought I was alone as a huge fan of the show. I’ve been looking for years to find someone else who loved it. Mathew Perry, Bradley Winford, Amanda Peete and Sarah Paulson were all superb, but so was Steven Weber. Great stuff. It came along at wrong time, under too much expectation, to receive a fair shot at being successful.

    Thanks for the vid. Plemons played a right wing character and the president pledged his allegiance ‘to god and flag ‘ also right wing tropes. So it’s not really ambiguous who is in charge. But other characters were clearly left vague on purpose.

    Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to comment. On an individual level there are definitely assumptions that can be drawn, the decision to not focus on how we got here (and by extension who is right and wrong) is what made the movie work as a whole for me. It is a criticism I see from many, but had they explained the entire backstory I would have found this a much less engaging film. I live in a town in southern New Mexico where Ari Astor is filming his new comedy Eddington. I am amazed at how well A24 seems to spend their money. A couple of years ago Disney/Buena Vista came to town to make a streaming only film, and they had a literal army of people out here. They seemed to spent loads of money compared to what A24 used. I think Disney has gotten so big, that their internal bureaucracy works against them. It's good to see A24 thriving, I just hope they don't get too big and unwieldly.

    Actors, writers, producers, companies. There are lots of ways to know whether or not a movie is worth your time without having to watch it. For example: Anything with Brie Larson or Phoebe Waller-Bridge? Never worth your time. Kathleen Kennedy involved? Save your money. If it has the Disney logo on it? Skip it, you won't be missing anything. If the trailer/press makes a huge deal about the gender/race of the main characters? It's trash, guaranteed. Review embargoes, NDAs, news of constant rewrites and re-shoots and sundry other production problems are all potential indicators of poor quality as well.

  • @HearUsOut

    Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to comment. I don't think I could skip anything with a Disney logo or that involved Kathleen Kennedy, for example Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was one of my favorite movies last year. As for Kennedy she was involved in some all time classic from ET to 6th Sense so there is too much there that I love. Brie Larson has been involved in some not great movies but she can definitely act and was great in Room. I've not seen Phoebe Waller-Bridge in anything but the last Indiana Jones movie (which was shockingly bad) but I have Fleabag on my to watch list, I've heard nothing but great things. Is she a bad actress? - Patrick

  • @MrNickPresley
    @MrNickPresley22 күн бұрын

    @@HearUsOut I'd caution against keeping the rose-tinted nostalgia goggles on. Kennedy may have produced ET, but she was also behind all the recent Star Wars movies, and they were hot garbage. The same thing applies to Disney. They _used_ to make quality films, but now they don't. If you're not willing to ignore Disney releases, just check out Dial of Destiny, or the Solo movie. Fleabag is pretty insufferable in both. Her talent for making me not want to see her in anything else is astounding.

    Mixed results when film tv makers base work on books and then deviate with their own notions. VERY excited to see something [almost] completely new. I wonder if they are going to give more backstory to Gollum's/Smegal's race to round Harfoots and Hobbits? They're more simple and less advanced/sophisticated than Hobbits in the book. His character is also not liked even by his own people. Very intruiged. Or, is this going to be a weird telling of him killing and eating orcs and making us feel sorry for him and blaming all his fallacies on the corruption of the ring... Is Gollum going to have a love arc?! Relating back to your video on projects having too much money... This needs LESS money than RoP. Don't know about more oversight... But do you ever think that someone not related to a film or tv project needs to come in and ask: "What are you actually doing here lads?"

    Jackson/Walsh/Boyens have a lot to atone for, and must surely want to reclaim their reputations, so I am hopeful they will be making an extra effort this time, and will have learned from their mistakes. At least this will be a single film, not a bloated trilogy. At its best, this could be a film such as The Hobbit should have been, although there isn't much original material to work on, and J/W/B haven't shown much skill in adding their own original material in the past. I don't see why a Gollum story set between Rings and Hobbit couldn't also include extensive flashbacks to earlier times. That could be cool. And I'm not particularly concerned about Serkis' background as a director - in films of this scale it is really about the screenplay and support from the studio, not the director. Mortal Engines didn't bomb because Christian Rivers was a bad director, it bombed because of bad choices made by J/W/B, and I imagine it will be the same with this film...

  • @HearUsOut

    THe rise of skywalker made billions. That was a win for hollywood. We need to hold to higher standards then that as a vieewing public. We should demand better writing and acting and everything with the amount of money these hacks like synder get. Less is more. We should stop praising hacks who create pretty colored terds and demand we like them because it's "Edgy". The rings of power is a prime example of this. One billion and the production quality is terrible with horrid writing and hideous fan fiction. With that kind of money, amazon could make their own world. Same with lucas himself. He can make his own world. We need to stop giving shiny turds a pass. 300 was a cool moive but by no means is it historically acurate or remotely solid story telling. It was guady fan fiction at best.

    Zack Snyder's movies are a blatant waste of millions of dollars. His films are poorly written, visually uninspired, and devoid of any meaningful substance. It's style over substance. Meanwhile, the legendary Francis Ford Coppola has to finance his own projects, showcasing the industry's misguided priorities. It's an outrage that Snyder continues to receive such staggering budgets for his subpar work. It just makes me sad.

    My simple answer is the over use of spectacle and not concentrating on compelling character arcs and cohesive narratives. There is this urgency to introduce too many characters in a single story. You need to ask the question if Snyder could make 300 and Superman what made him fail in Rebel Moon 1& 2? What he lost along the way? He failed in the story telling. But he is not the only one, JJ Abrams who did Star Trek, spoiled Star Wars. WHY?? It boils down to directorial decision. Why director lose their vision? Too much money to burn?

  • @HearUsOut
    @HearUsOutАй бұрын

    It feels like they get lost in the creation of a new world because at that level, they snap their fingers and talented artists render it into on-screen reality. Let's see what he can make. That would be a test! - Paul

    I mean, he failed in the story-telling with Superman too. C'mon, "Superman" had no agency in either movie, he died then was resurrected long before he became beloved so the world mourning his death made no sense, had no emotional resonance... and of course, the entire "Man of Steel" movie is just a mismash of stuff Snyder thinks will make "Superman" seem cool along with subverting who Superman is, incorrectly thinking his subversion will resonate with an audience... in the end, "Superman" kills Zod, after having been trying to kill him for a half an hour, and Snyder's like "can you believe 'Superman' killed Zod?" Like... yeah. For the entire movie you've been telling us this character is a teenage edgelord, he never had a father who taught him the sanctity of human life. The entire movie Snyder is "this isn't your daddy's Superman, this 'Superman' is edgy and angsty" and then at the end, he expects us to be surprised that he's edgy and angsty? He expects us to be surprised that a character who is taught to value his own secret over human life decides to kill? Pathetic story-telling, just pathetic.

    There was a lot that this movie could have delved into as the reasons for a civil war. None of that was mentioned except that the current POTUS was on his 3rd term. This just became a very violent road trip by 4 journalists from NYC to DC with lots of random, violent situations thrown in. Even at the end, the WF and other rebel forces had all the tanks, attack helicopters and missiles while the defending Federal Forces had none? How is that possible that the US Army had no tanks or Apache copters left to defend the White House or didn't evacuate the President to a safer location?

    @@HearUsOut or that the WF soldiers would just execute an SS agent who had her hands raised in surrender. Then go on to drag the President out and just shoot him too. Unbelievable!

    My idea for an Alien5 movie is as follows: It takes place after alien4 and takes places on an earth in ruins. TheRipleyClone has transformed into an entity that is producing eggs,and a lot of humans are affected,and a war breaks out.They have to use a nuke on the swarms of xenomorphs and decidedes to travel to the planet where they think the xenomorphs orginate from.There they find there are multiple forms of xenomorphs.They manages to form a clone of a xenomorph that is able to communicate with the the help of a microship surgerized into its brain. After this a peace is established. But as allways Weyland-Yutani has spies that want the xenomorph for their biological weapon program. And it is a surprice who the spy is. And that Weyland-Yutami has a lab on a spacestation not far from the xenomorph planet. Where they finds forms of xenomorphs that noone has seen before. And that's makes a cliffhanger for a possible Alien6 movie ?

    @@HearUsOut It would be the last movie with the ripleyclone,so i think "Alien5"must be included to show it is in the original canon? And "final"show that this might be the end or perhaps a sixth movie will wrap things up,where the xenomorph's come from and all ? A planet noone knew about ? Cancel Reply
