  I grew up with the Antal Dorati recording with the London Symphony on Mercury Records from 1961; a demo of the power of stereo, as the opposing "forces" moved onto the field of battle from opposite speakers and the engagement took place in the middle of one's living room. The record jacket also included a history of the piece, which Beethoven composed to be performed on an early automaton.

  Cuando cumplí 16 años mi padre me regaló este concierto en una casett con el gran Menuhin al violin. Cada ves que lo escucho no dejo de conmoverme hasta las lagrimas. Gracias mi Señor por semejante música

  Very beautiful playing, and Mendelssohn himself would have approved of Mr. Schütz using the sheet music as he did not like musicians performing from memory. Very good tempo in the first movement which often is spoiled by a tempo much faster than Allegro.

  Amazing turnover by the keyboard at 4.50 but why on EARTH doesn't he play from memory? It's only Bach for Heaven's sake, not Prokoviev! I've performed all 6 solo sonatas plus the 2 violin concertos of Bach countless times (to say nothing of the Elgar, Tchaikowsky, etc. etc.) It's not hard!!!.

  nobody played from memory at the baroque times. Not even Bartok did. Playing by memory is a sport that has zero relationship to performance practice.
