I’ve seen people saying fire doors are tested to BS 476 and also mentioning regulatory reform order 2005, could you do a video explaining this? Or could somebody explain in the comments? Are you testing to BS 476 or the regulatory reform order?

at 20:49 when you speak about gap , you meant 3 to 4 millimeters rather than minutes I suppose , thank you for the informative video thumbs up.

I find it interesting - the differences in how fire doors, hardware & other accessories are evaluated, tested, specified & rated in comparing how these assessments are performed in the European Union, the UK in contrast to how things are done in the U.S.A. & Canada... One thing that I do see in common is the Underwriters Laboratories U.L. logo & trademark - as U.L has a long-standing historical presence in the United States and is one of the largest 3rd-party testing & listing agencies used here in the United States and when it comes to rating, testing & listing fire door assemblies in the United States & Canada - there are only TWO such testing agencies that are recognized here - for the testing certifications of fire doors, frames & complete fire door assembly units. (1.) Underwriters Laboratories (UL) (2.) Intertek/Warnok-Hersey (WH) In the United States & Canada - Fire door ratings range from the "A" Label 3-hour rating, "B" Label 90-minute rating, "C" label 1-hour rating, and "D" Label rating of 45-minutes ranging down to 20-minutes fire door ratings, dependent upon the construction, materials composition and whether glazing is used, what size and whether used in pairs (double-door) configurations, including double-egress door sets typically found in healthcare facilities & other commercial/institutional buildings that are open to the general public like schools. All such doors must be self-closing and positively latching to remain closed to address pressure coefficients during a fire. Also in the U.S. & Canada - there are 13 specific details from which fire door assemblies are inspected for and like European counterparts - some of these areas of concern include alignment of the fire door to the frame as well as what fitment tolerances or clearances are permissible as well as the condition of the hardware/furniture in addition to the fire door being automatically closing AND positively LATCHING to address positive/negative pressure coefficients that occur during a fire event. This ensures that the fire door remains securely CLOSED during a fire event. Additionally - fire door assemblies in the U.S & Canada do not necessarily have or need to come all come from the same manufacturer or supplier OR has to be rated or certified by the same testing/listing agency. All fire door assembly components only need to be listed or certified & approved by the AHJ (Authority having Jurisdiction) over the installation such as the fire marshal or building inspector/building commission. Regulatory Agencies in the U.S. & Canada include codes from publications as published by the NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) and the IBC/ICC (International Buildings Code & International Codes Council) in particular - NFPA-80 & NFPA-101 as well as IBC/ICC - in particular & specifically, the IFC (International Fire Code). Each and every state has adopted such codes in one form or another into local ordinances or laws governing the application &administration of said regulations. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fire doors in the United States & Canada also have an industry-standard when it comes to design & construction as it is established by the SDI (Steel Door Institute) as well as other types of door certifications like the types of doors used in storm shelters or safe-rooms that are tested & certified to withstand and remain effectively intact from multiple or repeated & targeted 100 MPH (160 KM/H) 15-lb. 8' 2"x4" high-velocity impacts from launched projectiles or 'missiles' as is the language used by testing agencies such as (UL) Underwriters Laboratories & (WH) Intertek/Warnok-Hersey. Such tests are designed to simulate & document the results of a high-velocity projectile that might be produced by violent winds that are typically generated by severe storm events such as hurricanes/cyclones and/or tornadoes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, if anyone from the continent of Europe ever visits the United States or Canada, you will definitely see some drastic differences & variations on what you would normally see or expect to see in your day to day life or routines. Very interesting stuff.

No specific advice or training in this video. Just a load of “you should make sure you do the right thing and get the right product”. And a load of “this is why it’s important and this is what happens if you don’t.” We don’t need to see a test rig. If I am watching this video, then I don’t need convincing to do things properly. I want to be shown HOW to do things. What about advice in protection principles, eg. Different reasons for protecting against fire, and the different principles around protection? What about actually addressing the title of the video itself? I get the impression this is not really aimed at anyone; those specifying stuff will already be well trained and know far more detail than what’s shown here, and those who aren’t trained get very little from the video in terms of detail, e.g. product types, how they work, and when they are actually appropriate.
