Great video! Love your channel, and see it growing wildly :) I am also a fan of all things analog…but just in case a newbie reads this: You don't NEED analog. In fact, it can complicate things a lot. You'll need more cables, tape machines need fixing, etc. But as you said, hybrid workflows are probably best. So I'd probably recommend a new cheap cassette deck to record onto at the end of chain (or record a loop onto and then into DAW)and see if it's for you. ✌

Analog is cool and all, but digital is far from dying. Partly because few people can afford to do things the analog way. I'm not saying analog is completely obsolete, but it is a marketing buzzword nowdays more than anything else. Also, there are workarounds to many of the downsides of digital, and an artist should know how to create useful limitations for themselves also in the limitless world of a daw, instead of being dependent on gear to provide those limitations.

I don’t have a lot of equipment, but I prefer to invest on analog stuff for my creative process, it’s very fun to HEAR without the visual input, I really believe the more fun u have more creativity will come 🪐

It's all true but at the end of the day you still feel that emptiness that makes you buy more and more hardware machines. I believe we have to serve the song whether you do it in the digital or analog world. My advice: only use free plugins and free daw, make a song and publish it. That odd feeling goes away in a flick of a finger!

I like your channel and the work you do and share, but I think this video's arguments are extremely unfair/biased. BTW I also love analog technology and use plenty of it in my own workflow. But for example, at 2:30, you're talking about the reliability of an old Logic session vs a reel to reel tape, and bring into this argument the fact that your Logic session might have a bunch of outdated plugins, expired licenses, etc. while the tape will still work fine. But that's not a fair comparison. The equivalent of the logic session would be the prepared full-studio environment, with all the patchbays set up, all the equipment set to its proper settings, etc. I'm sure you would find that much more time-consuming to go back to 10 years after the session was made, then having to fix all the problems of the Logic session 10 years after it was made. Or, to balance it in the other direction, you could say that the reel-to-reel tape from 10 years ago would be equivalent to a Logic session where you responsibly 'froze' or bounced/printed all tracks/subgroups to their own audio tracks, and thus you don't need to open any old plugins at all. True that with digital, you'd have to remember to be responsible in this way, whereas in analog you're forced to get to that point in order to create a final recording. Either way, the digital situation of returning to an old session, when compared properly to the analog situation, is not worse at all in my opinion.

I don't disagree at all. I'm at the point having started all analog (I'm 59)... that I can use whatever combination of mics, guitar pedals, mixer, DAW, plugins, acoustic/electric instrument, analog/digital synths, 2-60 tracks... suits my idea or creative process. But I think that's because I've put so many years in on these processes. We actually have an apprenticeship program teaching young people audio engineering. One of our most enlightening workshops is the analog console, dub mixing class. Many of these folks had never worked on an actual physical mixer before. Light bulbs were going off in people's heads. Yes, try it!
