My guess for harry is that he was happy when he had it was because during his treatment he was using him the entire time for the entirety if SM1 , SMMM, and however long before that. So it's like he kind of has a dependancy on it now? I personally think that would also explain why he's angry without him (i mean, he is infact dying without it lmao). I dunno this would just mean I'm doing the writing for the writers so all we can do is speculate since I don't think we're gonna ever get a answer 🤷♂️

I saw it that way too, and it makes sense for the characters. My only issue with the Harry stuff is that it seems like they couldn’t make up their minds as to whether Harry was perfectly bonded with the symbiote or not. Like was it Harry making these choices? Or was it Venom? It was a little unclear to me.

I loved Spider-Man 2, but I'm only giving it a 6/10 cuz they made an incomplete game with a rushed third act and without adding basic features (NG+ and Mission replay) that should've been there on Day 1. The story wasn't as good as the first two games and they literally doubled down on MJ missions knowing ppl hated them. And don't even get me started on her design. To top that off, a bunch of dog shit side missions for Miles and the amt of bugs and glitches that broke my game several times. Hated the Black Cat mission as well. I can tell the first two games were focussed and made with lots of love. But SM 2 clearly reeked of unnecessary pandering that led to mediocre story-telling.

I quite enjoyed the black cat mission, it’s got that ratchet and clank vibe to it. But my enjoyment of it did diminish a little when I realized it’s just filler.

I think you forgot not only does mj react faster than peter In that cutscene as well as mj taking the brunt of that attack since she is in front of that attack also Peter was down for 11 seconds. Fridges weight between 300 pounds Pete lowballed can life 10 tons or 20,000 pounds even if he is “tried” as people say you don’t get 100 times weaker that is like me saying I can curl 90 pounds but me being tried I can only curl 20 pounds do you see how dumb that is. Not to mention peter can’t even dodge lighting anymore in the sandman fight something he could do with ease in the first game. Peter when saving tombstone with harry gets stuck under a pathetically tiny brick wall when in the first game at Fisk tower when saving people Pete lifts rubble at least 5 times bigger and then he throws it. Peter was objectively nerfed in this game there is way too many anti feats for that not to be the case and I have only talked about a few of them.

I think the biggest disappointment for me was just the cohesion of the game’s narrative. The first game felt great. Perhaps the pacing was a tad too slow for my liking around the middle of the game, but I really liked it overall. A good mixture of Spider-Man and Peter Parker drama. I just felt like Spider-Man 2 has too much Spider-Man spectacle, which sacrifices some more outside the mask missions to balance things out. Miles’s portion of the story is significantly shorter, but what he does have with Mister Negative is really good. I indeed think it’s a bit of a missed opportunity, for a modern game like that grants the player two playable Spider-Men, that Miles gets sidelined by Peter all the time. It kind of makes sense in the story, with Peter choosing Harry over Miles mostly, but still… Bully Lowenthal started out with a rage filled bang, after Peter’s resurrection. And after that, Peter became more pretty jovial again and such. He was slowly built up to become less kind and more frustrated and such… but after his contact with the meteorite, he spirals into overdrive real quick. It’s like the writers thought: We need to have Miles and Peter fight soon and Peter needs to be more consumed by the symbiote to warrant him fighting his protégé. It was just weird that everything with Peter’s symbiote arc takes place in like… two canonical days. It would’ve been nicer to let it simmer a bit longer, so to speak. This game has a lot of awesome set pieces. But really… maybe it wasn’t all that necessary, for the story’s sake, to save as many villains from Kraven as they did, if that meant giving symbiote Peter, or Venom some more time. Everything with Venom went really quick. Too quick. It’s a shame they had to cut missions in the third act. Peter and Venom/Harry could’ve had more scenes. And damn… they could have and should have given Miles more scenes with Harry or Venom. Perhaps Peter started to kind of ignore Harry as the symbiote took hold, what happened during and after the Lizard chase. And then Miles could spend some time with Harry, who feels lonely, sick and is sad that the EMF got destroyed. And Harry could just be glad that Miles would give him some company in such tough time in his life. I quite liked MJ in the first game. I could understand her side of the arguments she had with Peter, though she was quite naive. But in her missions (which simply aren’t the greatest), she was doing some sneaky, oftentimes kind of illegal reporting. But her missions in this game stray away from that too much. Yes, she could have had some Sable training. No, that would not mean she could feasibly take out so many hunters who have trained for far longer than she has. My personal favourite villain in this one was Kraven. Whereas other parts of the story (even though I like most parts of it) have significant plot holes or worse parts to it, Kraven, is nigh perfect. I don’t really rate Spider-Man characters on how well they are adapted. I have really grown to like Spider-Man (I really like him) -despite me feeling quite indifferent to most super heroes- but I don’t read comics and such. I do about a lot of the more renowned comics, whether those are generally viewed positively or not. And I knew the story of Kraven’s last hunt before going into the story. The only gripes I’d say I’d have are that Kraven has an army in the first place, which I do understand from a videogame perspective and that he calls for his beasts in his boss fight, because it would have been more in-character to want to fight Spidey alone. I think his race against the clock suited him well. He fights sickness, as Harry does, which makes for some thematic symbolism. He wants to die in his prime, on his own terms. That adds a layer of pity to him, even though he’s a completely ruthless menace. Damn I loved how ruthless the man was. They definitely amped up his strength compared to other versions (same case for Venom). I liked this Kraven so much, that I got inspired to implement a relatively similar character into the fantasy story I’m writing. This game’s narrative is mostly based on moments, to me. Whereas the first game is a cohesive story, structured more clearly and properly building to a crescendo, this one has more awesome set pieces and a lot of great individual moments, but I find the connective tissue to be subpar. And I can only imagine how much better some moments would have hit if said connective tissue was a bit better. This game either should have had a few of its set pieces cut to allow for some more crucial story moments, or it should have been longer, keeping the ambitious scale, but giving it more time to reach its full potential. I'd have preferred the latter, of course. Gameplay is immensely satisfying. In that department, this game is really, really, really good. The traversal is superb. Best traversal system I know. Combat is mostly an upgrade. I do think it’s weird how both Miles and Peter get their own abilities, between which you can switch, but they share the same four gadgets. It’s weird that none of the gadgets, barring the basic web shooters, are carried over. Both from a gameplay and a narrative perspective. And of course the Venom gameplay… I’ve replayed it so, so often.

On the Rio Morales bit, it makes sense as to why she's acting like that twords Peter at that point of the story since Miles had gotten captured by Kraven's hunters, and she hadn't heard from him in a while. I think she has a good reason to be upset if her superhero son's superhero coworker doesn't know where he's at when all her son does is talk about how to be a better Spider-man for him (Peter). It's not like it's out of nowhere Edit: I will say, the nerfing of Peter kinda goes deeper, at least to me. Like, why did he barely use the iron spider arms through the story at pivotal points? Coney Island is a spot where he could've definitely used them, in tandem with the symbiote, and other stuff. Just feels like an oversight on insomniac's behalf

I understand she was worried about Miles but the whole time in that conversation Peter was just saying “I’ll find him.” It’s not like he said “who cares about Miles he can take care of himself.” It just felt like the aggression was on the wrong side of the conversation. Like if he went full bully Lowenthal and just starting spewing I’d understand why she’d get so angry, but instead she’s angrily telling him to go help Miles when…that’s what he was already going to do. And then later on when he’s like “I’ll be on my best behavior” it seemed off to me because he wasn’t even acting out that much. He was just being kinda broody. And even then, she’s still giving him the business. To me it just felt like they didn’t fully commit to Peter being a jerk, so the aggression towards him felt a little unwarranted because he himself never gets that angry or aggressive.

I agree with everything you said here. I liked the game but found it to be a disappointment. I also didn’t like how incompetent they made Peter seem and how flawless Miles was. It is supposed to be a mentor/student relationship between the two of them but Miles was a more competent Spider-Man the entire time. Peter even practically admits it by saying the city doesn’t need him if they have Miles. The relationship felt non existent. This game did Peter dirty every chance it got.

Having to play mj again even though no one liked those missions in the first game yet they doubled down on it not to mention how dumb it is was that mj can sneak around trained hunters. Peter with anti venom still loses to venom which makes no sense what so ever. The symbiote arc is too short. The spider arms are dumb and suck as well as being out of character for peter to use. Peter needs technology just to be on pair with miles which is not how it is in the comics peter should just be the physical dominant one strength speed ect… while miles can be the more power based one. The story is shorter then the first having less missions They removed most gadgets and suit powers The combat is underdeveloped and the animations for it are boring you should be able to do more not to mention how slow the spider-men attack when their whole thing is being quick and agile yet I have seen people attack faster.

I mean, they were TRYING to do terrible sounding dialog there because it was a spoof on B movies from the 50s. How can there be so many PROFESSIONALLY MADE shows and movies with dialog that sounds like it belongs in that movie? Miles in the comics is not stronger then Pete miles has weaker base powers then peter strength,speed,durability, ect… but miles makes up with his venom powers to be on par with Pete. Honestly, Spider-Man is my favorite super hero. It pained me to give the game a 6/10. I had the same exact gripes about Mj. Plus the fact the she blamed Peter fpr everything when she became scream. Also she's ugly this time around. I didn't like the nerfing of Peter just to prop up Miles and Mj. The pacing fell to pieces once you get the black. Arguably before then. Black Cat was only in the game to tell us that she has a woman. Why is Hailey here by the way? Also, game is kinda very woke. Especially the side missions. I only kept on Jjj's podcast. Listening to what's her name after the first few times she broadcast makes me puke.

*sigh*... even though it's admirable of them to do their own thing when it comes to the Spider-Man storyline. Making altercations to his lore would've backfired at some point. Adding in miles would complicate crap on what these sucka's are supposed to do when it comes down to story management between peter and miles... and not making Mary Jane the normal model enduced actress that she is, but instead, a journalist who we can somehow play would distract the player and the story in general from what is important. Making Harry Venom would have made the story feel repetitive with the trope of "My friend turned evil, wahhh, wahh." If peter was the only Spider around... insomniac would have never been given an excuse to reduce him to a jumbling bafoon. Idk. They should've taken a page from the Arkham games, by actually making their Spider-Man fallow the source material of the BOOKS when it comes to lore... and doing their own thing at the same time. Honestly, bro? I'm starting to lose hope for the story of Spider-Man 3 to ever catch up or surpass the first games story because of complicated story choices. Like silk. The only hope i have LEFT for this series is for them to go above and beyond upgrading and evolving their Web-Swinging and Combat System to their fullest might. After that? I'm ready to see someone else handle a new Spider-Man series. Hopefully that one leans more on the comics, over ambitious lore changes.

It’s almost as if they thought playing as Spider-Man would get old or something. In the Arkham trilogy, we almost exclusively played as Batman for 3 games. It never once got old. Still, I haven’t lost all hope yet. Am I as confident in insomniac as before? Not necessarily, but I think if they listen to us, we might get some improvements.

My guess for harry is that he was happy when he had it was because during his treatment he was using him the entire time for the entirety if SM1 , SMMM, and however long before that. So it's like he kind of has a dependancy on it now? I personally think that would also explain why he's angry without him (i mean, he is infact dying without it lmao). I never said I like Venom as a character my friend, hence why I had a whole section dedicated to my issues with him. I only said Venom was super fun to play as.
I think the “jealous” Harry scene was more of a “you’re essentially letting me die by not giving me back the symbiote and now my dad is sitting here thanking you for always being my friend and how he loves you like a son. Fuck you” kinda thing. I’d be mad too if my dad said that to my best friend who just betrayed me
I saw it that way too, and it makes sense for the characters. My only issue with the Harry stuff is that it seems like they couldn’t make up their minds as to whether Harry was perfectly bonded with the symbiote or not. Like was it Harry making these choices? Or was it Venom? It was a little unclear to me.

I loved Spider-Man 2, but I'm only giving it a 6/10 cuz they made an incomplete game with a rushed third act and without adding basic features (NG+ and Mission replay) that should've been there on Day 1. The story wasn't as good as the first two games and they literally doubled down on MJ missions knowing ppl hated them. And don't even get me started on her design. To top that off, a bunch of dog shit side missions for Miles and the amt of bugs and glitches that broke my game several times. Hated the Black Cat mission as well. I can tell the first two games were focussed and made with lots of love. But SM 2 clearly reeked of unnecessary pandering that led to mediocre story-telling.
I quite enjoyed the black cat mission, it’s got that ratchet and clank vibe to it. But my enjoyment of it did diminish a little when I realized it’s just filler.
@@SaceStation Exactly. The portal aspects of the mission were really cool. I was actually expecting her to interact with symbiote peter and maybe have her as a playable character as well. Instead they made her bi and put her in a mission that basically did nothing for the story. But that's just me.

I think you forgot not only does mj react faster than peter In that cutscene as well as mj taking the brunt of that attack since she is in front of that attack also Peter was down for 11 seconds. Fridges weight between 300 pounds Pete lowballed can life 10 tons or 20,000 pounds even if he is “tried” as people say you don’t get 100 times weaker that is like me saying I can curl 90 pounds but me being tried I can only curl 20 pounds do you see how dumb that is. Not to mention peter can’t even dodge lighting anymore in the sandman fight something he could do with ease in the first game. Peter when saving tombstone with harry gets stuck under a pathetically tiny brick wall when in the first game at Fisk tower when saving people Pete lifts rubble at least 5 times bigger and then he throws it. Peter was objectively nerfed in this game there is way too many anti feats for that not to be the case and I have only talked about a few of them.

I think the biggest disappointment for me was just the cohesion of the game’s narrative. The first game felt great. Perhaps the pacing was a tad too slow for my liking around the middle of the game, but I really liked it overall. A good mixture of Spider-Man and Peter Parker drama. I just felt like Spider-Man 2 has too much Spider-Man spectacle, which sacrifices some more outside the mask missions to balance things out. Miles’s portion of the story is significantly shorter, but what he does have with Mister Negative is really good. I indeed think it’s a bit of a missed opportunity, for a modern game like that grants the player two playable Spider-Men, that Miles gets sidelined by Peter all the time. It kind of makes sense in the story, with Peter choosing Harry over Miles mostly, but still… Bully Lowenthal started out with a rage filled bang, after Peter’s resurrection. And after that, Peter became more pretty jovial again and such. He was slowly built up to become less kind and more frustrated and such… but after his contact with the meteorite, he spirals into overdrive real quick. It’s like the writers thought: We need to have Miles and Peter fight soon and Peter needs to be more consumed by the symbiote to warrant him fighting his protégé. It was just weird that everything with Peter’s symbiote arc takes place in like… two canonical days. It would’ve been nicer to let it simmer a bit longer, so to speak. This game has a lot of awesome set pieces. But really… maybe it wasn’t all that necessary, for the story’s sake, to save as many villains from Kraven as they did, if that meant giving symbiote Peter, or Venom some more time. Everything with Venom went really quick. Too quick. It’s a shame they had to cut missions in the third act. Peter and Venom/Harry could’ve had more scenes. And damn… they could have and should have given Miles more scenes with Harry or Venom. Perhaps Peter started to kind of ignore Harry as the symbiote took hold, what happened during and after the Lizard chase. And then Miles could spend some time with Harry, who feels lonely, sick and is sad that the EMF got destroyed. And Harry could just be glad that Miles would give him some company in such tough time in his life. I quite liked MJ in the first game. I could understand her side of the arguments she had with Peter, though she was quite naive. But in her missions (which simply aren’t the greatest), she was doing some sneaky, oftentimes kind of illegal reporting. But her missions in this game stray away from that too much. Yes, she could have had some Sable training. No, that would not mean she could feasibly take out so many hunters who have trained for far longer than she has. My personal favourite villain in this one was Kraven. Whereas other parts of the story (even though I like most parts of it) have significant plot holes or worse parts to it, Kraven, is nigh perfect. I don’t really rate Spider-Man characters on how well they are adapted. I have really grown to like Spider-Man (I really like him) -despite me feeling quite indifferent to most super heroes- but I don’t read comics and such. I do about a lot of the more renowned comics, whether those are generally viewed positively or not. And I knew the story of Kraven’s last hunt before going into the story. The only gripes I’d say I’d have are that Kraven has an army in the first place, which I do understand from a videogame perspective and that he calls for his beasts in his boss fight, because it would have been more in-character to want to fight Spidey alone. I think his race against the clock suited him well. He fights sickness, as Harry does, which makes for some thematic symbolism. He wants to die in his prime, on his own terms. That adds a layer of pity to him, even though he’s a completely ruthless menace. Damn I loved how ruthless the man was. They definitely amped up his strength compared to other versions (same case for Venom). I liked this Kraven so much, that I got inspired to implement a relatively similar character into the fantasy story I’m writing. This game’s narrative is mostly based on moments, to me. Whereas the first game is a cohesive story, structured more clearly and properly building to a crescendo, this one has more awesome set pieces and a lot of great individual moments, but I find the connective tissue to be subpar. And I can only imagine how much better some moments would have hit if said connective tissue was a bit better. This game either should have had a few of its set pieces cut to allow for some more crucial story moments, or it should have been longer, keeping the ambitious scale, but giving it more time to reach its full potential. I'd have preferred the latter, of course. Gameplay is immensely satisfying. In that department, this game is really, really, really good. The traversal is superb. Best traversal system I know. Combat is mostly an upgrade. I do think it’s weird how both Miles and Peter get their own abilities, between which you can switch, but they share the same four gadgets. It’s weird that none of the gadgets, barring the basic web shooters, are carried over. Both from a gameplay and a narrative perspective. And of course the Venom gameplay… I’ve replayed it so, so often.

On the Rio Morales bit, it makes sense as to why she's acting like that twords Peter at that point of the story since Miles had gotten captured by Kraven's hunters, and she hadn't heard from him in a while. I think she has a good reason to be upset if her superhero son's superhero coworker doesn't know where he's at when all her son does is talk about how to be a better Spider-man for him (Peter). It's not like it's out of nowhere Edit: I will say, the nerfing of Peter kinda goes deeper, at least to me. Like, why did he barely use the iron spider arms through the story at pivotal points? Coney Island is a spot where he could've definitely used them, in tandem with the symbiote, and other stuff. Just feels like an oversight on insomniac's behalf
I understand she was worried about Miles but the whole time in that conversation Peter was just saying “I’ll find him.” It’s not like he said “who cares about Miles he can take care of himself.” It just felt like the aggression was on the wrong side of the conversation. Like if he went full bully Lowenthal and just starting spewing I’d understand why she’d get so angry, but instead she’s angrily telling him to go help Miles when…that’s what he was already going to do. And then later on when he’s like “I’ll be on my best behavior” it seemed off to me because he wasn’t even acting out that much. He was just being kinda broody. And even then, she’s still giving him the business. To me it just felt like they didn’t fully commit to Peter being a jerk, so the aggression towards him felt a little unwarranted because he himself never gets that angry or aggressive.

If I was a parent of a superhero child and he's missing but his friend isn't? Imma be grilling the friend a little, because where's my kid and why don't you know, you're their mentor. It's like a teacher not knowing where a student went during their class period. That teacher, for as long as the kid is in their class, is responsible for that kid
I agree 100%, I’m not saying she’s not justified. I just think they missed an opportunity to really lean into Peter being a complete jerk. He should’ve at least lashed out or yelled back or something because that’s what symbiote Peter would do. Instead Miles’s mom is the aggressor in that exchange which felt a little off to me. Black suit Spider-Man should be aggressive towards everyone in my opinion.

I agree with everything you said here. I liked the game but found it to be a disappointment. I also didn’t like how incompetent they made Peter seem and how flawless Miles was. It is supposed to be a mentor/student relationship between the two of them but Miles was a more competent Spider-Man the entire time. Peter even practically admits it by saying the city doesn’t need him if they have Miles. The relationship felt non existent. This game did Peter dirty every chance it got.

I LOVE this game and I LOVE spiderman and I’m with you 100% on all of these critiques. Also, Venom is Spider-Man’s opposite, so it was annoyingly strange to me that Peter never shot webs from his wrists when he has the symbiote, and Venom never used web swinging after Peter had it. Strange choices.

Why do they keep interrupting their superhero power fantasy with those dumb missions. I actually liked playing as Haley though. That was a pretty cool mission. I like those smaller more human stories.

How did they manage to use lines that would fit perfectly in The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra? I mean, they were TRYING to do terrible sounding dialog there because it was a spoof on B movies from the 50s. How can there be so many PROFESSIONALLY MADE shows and movies with dialog that sounds like it belongs in that movie? If you don’t have an amazing team of comedians, brilliant timing, and an amazing crew where the goal is to pay homage to bad movies and actually have it work; I don’t want to hear any characters talking about how they are a scientist, they don't believe in anything.
Even anti venom kind of messes up the story, whats the point of the symbiote arc if he just gets to keep a symbiote with the same power and 0 drawbacks. I get why it was done gameplay wise though.

Miles in the comics is not stronger then Pete miles has weaker base powers then peter strength,speed,durability, ect… but miles makes up with his venom powers to be on par with Pete. So no miles is not stronger then Pete if anything peter is still the strongest of the two being the more physically dominant,smarter, experienced and better fighter of the two because of his own martial art the way of the spider.

@@SaceStation overall, I’m just disappointed how they made tombstone into a good guy and then black cat but overall the game isn’t bad I like the story stories OK wasn’t as sad as the first one, but it was all right. Just wish they did more with the villains to make them weak.
Does it make you angry that in this game, thanks to Spiderman, the villains can change? That was never touched on in other games, that gives it humanity.

Honestly, Spider-Man is my favorite super hero. It pained me to give the game a 6/10. I had the same exact gripes about Mj. Plus the fact the she blamed Peter fpr everything when she became scream. Also she's ugly this time around. I didn't like the nerfing of Peter just to prop up Miles and Mj. The pacing fell to pieces once you get the black. Arguably before then. Black Cat was only in the game to tell us that she has a woman. Why is Hailey here by the way? Also, game is kinda very woke. Especially the side missions. I only kept on Jjj's podcast. Listening to what's her name after the first few times she broadcast makes me puke.

Are you really judging the quality of the game by an MJ face? That Black Cat is alone to say that he has a girlfriend? Do you forget that Kraven and the hunters were hunting her? DO YOU FORGET WHAT LITERAL GIVES INFORMATION AND LOCATION OF THE PLACE? Did they demote Peter? Sometimes I think they don't pay attention to the game and even more so when you say woke A TWO OPTIONAL SECONDARY MISSIONS, the pace of the game speeds up when you get the anti venom

*sigh*... even though it's admirable of them to do their own thing when it comes to the Spider-Man storyline. Making altercations to his lore would've backfired at some point. Adding in miles would complicate crap on what these sucka's are supposed to do when it comes down to story management between peter and miles... and not making Mary Jane the normal model enduced actress that she is, but instead, a journalist who we can somehow play would distract the player and the story in general from what is important. Making Harry Venom would have made the story feel repetitive with the trope of "My friend turned evil, wahhh, wahh." If peter was the only Spider around... insomniac would have never been given an excuse to reduce him to a jumbling bafoon. Idk. They should've taken a page from the Arkham games, by actually making their Spider-Man fallow the source material of the BOOKS when it comes to lore... and doing their own thing at the same time. Honestly, bro? I'm starting to lose hope for the story of Spider-Man 3 to ever catch up or surpass the first games story because of complicated story choices. Like silk. The only hope i have LEFT for this series is for them to go above and beyond upgrading and evolving their Web-Swinging and Combat System to their fullest might. After that? I'm ready to see someone else handle a new Spider-Man series. Hopefully that one leans more on the comics, over ambitious lore changes.
It’s almost as if they thought playing as Spider-Man would get old or something. In the Arkham trilogy, we almost exclusively played as Batman for 3 games. It never once got old. Still, I haven’t lost all hope yet. Am I as confident in insomniac as before? Not necessarily, but I think if they listen to us, we might get some improvements.
