Something that I love about spiderman; is that ANYONE can be spider man. I like Miles Morales and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker for similar reasons, but mainly being that they're different. Maguire and Holland's Peter are very "textbook" to me when it comes to peter. Garfield's Peter seems cooler with the whole skateboard thing, it gives me some identity that lacks for someone like Holland. (I'll add, I don't dislike Holland or Maguire's Peter Parker/ Spider-Man. I just prefer Garfield over the other two)

I completely agree with you on most of these points. TASM 1 is such an underrated film, and it's honestly my favorite Spider-Man movie (and my favorite superhero movie too). The characters felt more human than the ones in the Raimi trilogy (and even more so than the ones in the Watts films). Everyone felt real; like they were someone you'd meet in real life. The decisions they made and the character arcs they went through were so realistic. I know movies are supposed to be an "escape from reality," but the realism of this movie makes it so much easier to relate to the characters. They somehow even gave Flash, a character with only a couple of minutes of screen time, a whole arc that worked really well. On top of that, there are some other points you didn't mention in your video that I'm sure you'd agree with regardless. The soundtrack is so well-composed. James Horner really went all out for the music. And visually, the film is top-tier, as well. You could take any frame from the movie, and it would look great as a poster. The CGI holds up really well, especially for a twelve year old movie. It's baffling that the CGI in the Watts films is so crappy when compared to this. I only disagreed with you on a couple of points. I don't think Peter was a "villain" at the start per se. He felt more like an anti-hero who had a false image of himself in his head. He believed he was a hero and should be praised for his actions, when in reality, the only person he was helping was himself. Doing good things for the wrong reason is more under "anti-hero" territory over "villain" territory. And as for your point on Dr. Connors, I don't think he was the weakest part of the film. He would have been an outstanding villain if those deleted scenes had been included in the final version, but even as the film stands, he was a very well-written character. When Peter was taking things for granted (not realizing his true father figure was Uncle Ben), he sought Dr. Connors to fit that role. The scene where he hung up on Uncle Ben to continue working with Dr. Connors solidified this. The feeling went both ways for them. Peter thought Dr. Connors could be his new father figure, and Dr. Connors thought Peter could be a new Richard who could help him achieve the dream they had of curing humanity of its diseases and disabilities. I only wish that the Lizard had a more "lizard-like" head for his design. But other than that, I think you nailed my thoughts on the film! I still don't get why so many people dislike this film, but I'm glad people are starting to warm up to it in recent years. I'd like to see what you think about TASM 2, as well. While I think it's not nearly as good as the first one, I think it's still a very solid film that doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1 Without her, no one could stop AVI ARAD from destroying the franchise Spider-man was nothing without her

Comic Book Peter was also a flawed person from the start. Read Amazing Fantasy 15. He lets the thief go that winds up killing his uncle because he just stops caring about everyone else. This is a result of his bullying. He talks about the only people who deserve happiness are his aunt and uncle. That they are are all that matter. He learns to be a hero because of his flawed world view and is forced to change due to his mistakes. This Peter is the most accurate Peter Parker we have if we are looking at the original run.

The REAL Spider-Man doesn’t giva fuck about joining the Avengers. THEY INVITED SPIDER-MAN AND THE REAL SPIDER-MAN REFUSED. The REAL SPIDER-MAN doesn’t wanna be tied down with The Avengers, he made his OWN SUPERHERO TEAM!!! Tom Holland is following Tony Stark over on everything. SPIDER-MAN doesn’t giva fuck but Tom Holland does. Tobey MaGuire or Andrew Garfield were WAY BETTER representations of Peter Parker/Spider-Man

What I don't like about the Peter/Flash basketball scene isn't actually the scene. Its Uncle Ben's stupid reaction to it. He's mad because Peter............slightly embarrassed the school bully by showing him up at basketball???????? WTF??????? Who really cares? What does it matter ??? The school that doesn't seem to care that Flash is a physical menace to nearly every other kid in school gets mad that a glass( glass!!!!!!!) backboard broke?!?!?! They do that. The are glass. It happens. If you don't want your glass backboard to break don't buy one made out of glass. The wooden and aluminum ones almost never break like that. Its a ridiculous scene. Nobody, including Uncle Ben seem to give one good god damn that Flash physically assaults people. They care that Peter slightly embarrassed Flash. WTF exactly is wrong with these people??? Ben IS NOT what Peter should be. He was a not a good person. He went off on Peter for nothing and got himself killed trying stupidly to take down a much younger, tougher, armed criminal for no good reason. Hell, he didn't even know what was going on. He just decided " I should do SOMETHING. Why? Did he have the slightest clue why he needed to stop this guy? Not really. He lied to and kept secrets from Peter for years for little reason. He's not really a role model. Not as portrayed in this movie. All of that being stated, while I wasn't crazy about the Peter Parker in this movie, it was pretty good. There are definite character arcs, even among supporting characters. There's emotion. There's stakes, both personal and broader ones. Its pretty good. Not great. Not , by far, my favorite, but, pretty good. What ruined it from being more was how rushed things were at points. More insight into Conners would have greatly improved it. What happened to those cops who got transformed( Who knows? Get on with it. Seems to have been the movies attitude).

I can understand your views however I think that it’s much more complex than just simply “slightly embarrassing” Flash. Flash is not a good person. If Peter gets revenge on him for the things Flash has done to him, how does that make Peter any better? This whole film is about finding a responsible balance between controlling your revenge to benefit not only you as a person but the ‘bully’ who deserved it. A bully does something bad to someone. That person is tired so they get revenge on said bully. The bully now is only hungry to do worse. That doesn’t teach them a lesson, it’ll just prove more wrong. By doing good deeds instead hopefully that bully realises all their negative decisions makes them weaker and help them become a better person. Not only that but a person who helps will always feel better about themselves rather than a person who gets revenge. This is why Uncle Ben was disappointed at Peter. He says “you have a moral obligation to do good things and that’s what’s at stake.” When he grabs that gun he thought that he might be able to save one persons life. That’s all that matters. Is helping rather than passing by because it doesn’t make yourself feel like a better person Uncle Ben once told Peter straight after the basketball incident. “So all this is about getting even. If so I bet you must feel pretty good about yourself.” This whole film is about Peter getting even. Whether it’s towards flash or towards Uncle Ben’s killer. Peter’s willingness to get even doesn’t make him feel any better on the inside. His whole arc is learning his place in this world means more than to abuse his power and pain to get back at bad people, but to rather help bad people and give them hope. Therefor Uncle Ben was right in his words after the basketball scene. Because that conversation did end up having a huge impact on Peters life and created his path towards being a hero.

@@HassanHamid "Flash is not a good person. If Peter gets revenge on him for the things Flash has done to him, how does that make Peter any better?" Because causing someone slight embarrassment in a game is demonstrably less horrible than beating people up. Do you somehow not see that. All Peter did was make him look like not such a hotshot on the basketball court. He didn't punch him. He didn't stick his head in food. He didn't threaten him like Flash just did to the girls on the court. He just dunked on him. Its fine. Beating people up isn't. " This whole film is about finding a responsible balance between controlling your revenge to benefit not only you as a person but the ‘bully’ who deserved it. " He did control it. he didn't kick Flash's ass. He just beat him at basketball. The Uncle Ben scene here makes no sense given the circumstances. From Ben's point of view , he got called to the school because, while playing basketball, Peter dunked on another student and the backboard broke. I can see the school calling . The backboard was broken. But, why all of the attitude??? Its almost like it was meant for another scene. one where Peter did something much worse than just showing Flash up at basketball, but then they decided they didn't want Peter to look too petty, so they re-shot the " revenge" scene" so he wouldn't look so bad, but kept in the Uncle Ben follow up, not thinking about how it no longer really fit the events that they now would portray. "Uncle Ben once told Peter straight after the basketball incident. “So all this is about getting even. If so I bet you must feel pretty good about yourself.”" But, again. remember how things are from Ben's perspective in the film as released. He was called to the school because a board got broken during Pete and Flash playing basketball. Not a fight. Not a prank. Not shaving creaming his car. Not posting embarrassing pictures of Flash online. A backboard broke while teens were playing basketball. And Ben decides that means Peter was " out for revenge". It just doesn't make sense. Or, are we supposes to believe that tough guy Flash Thompson was whining to the principle about what happened? Even had he, this is a school that apparently ignored Flash holding up another student and dunking his face in food at lunch, in front off dozens of witnesses, and one where Flash feels comfortable threatening violence on girls in the school. they care that Peter made him look bad on the basketball court????? Not a chance. Unless his dad is the principle. "This whole film is about Peter getting even" No. It isn't " all" about that. Only some of it. The beginning is about him wondering about his parents and trying to meet Gwen. The last half is about him trying to make up for accidentally contributing to the Lizard being a thing. Only about 1/3 in the middle is about " Peter getting revenge". Be it on Flash or the guy that killed Ben. "Therefor Uncle Ben was right in his words after the basketball scene" The words may have been correct, but that does not make him " right". If a kid is beaten, time and time again, in races by the school bully, and then, after training and training that kid finally beats the bully in the biggest race of the year, with the bully falling down and looking like a fool in front of the whole school , someone pulling Ben's whole speech on the kid about getting even may be correct in the message( about revenge being wrong) but the circumstance still makes them a jackass for pulling that speech out on the kid then. Like i said. The Ben scene was probably written and shot to follow a scene where Peter actually did something bad to Flash. Something much worse than making him look bad on a basketball court, but the Peter-Flash scene was changed and the Peter-Ben scene wasn't.

The school had obviously been ignoring Flash's bullying, and downright criminal behavior, so, someone needed to put him in his place, and Peter did so, in an amazingly controlled and restrained manner. Frankly, Flash needed to get his ass kicked so he learned what it was like, and maybe changed his ways before he ran into someone who would put him in the hospital ( or worse) for it, or he ended up in prison.

You said what us in the Spider-Man fandom are all too afraid to say. Thank you for speaking up for all us Andrew Garfield lovers. In my opinion, he was the perfect embodiment of Peter Parker. I was one of the people who spent 10 years not watching the Amazing Spider-Man movies because I had heard how terrible they were compared to the Tobey Maguire movies and I'll admit I hopped on the hate train because I grew up with them. I loved Tobey and didn't think anyone else could be "my" Spider-Man. But one day the movies showed up on STARZ and I was like, what the heck I love Spider-Man so I'll watch them. I was absolutely blown away. Andrew Garfield is the best Peter because of his growth, he's relatable, but most of all, later on he learns how to take RESPONSIBILITY which is the most important Spider-Man trait. He's not a whiny, selfish brat like Tom Holland Spider-Man (my least favorite I'm sorry.) Even by No Way Home Tom Holland Peter Parker is STILL making mistakes and acting like a child. I'm sorry I really can't stand his interpretation of Spider-Man (while we're putting it all on the table.) Tom Holland appeals to kids but that's it. Spider-Man does start out a kid and doesn't know about responsibility but he's supposed to LEARN to be better and Andrew Garfield does. I also love how they really showed Andrew Garfield's intelligence in this movie, sometimes the films don't show enough of that side of Peter. Like I mean his room is even 'Peterfied' and it shows how he made his web slingers on his own. He also doesn't have to get handed any fancy suits from Tony Stark to be good (again, Tom Holland is not my fav.) But anyway I guess that's my two cents. I've been wanting to get this off my chest for awhile but I was afraid. 😅 But I will proudly say Andrew Garfield is the best Peter Parker/Spider-Man and an amazing actor.
