There is 1 conversation during 5x13 that never happened but should have and i think the show really missed an opportunity by not having it. In 5x13 Kara needed another perspective so she chose a time frame where Mon El existed and her talking to him about what was going on to get his opinion. They should have had Kara choose a time frame where Lena would have listened and Kara could have told her weekday was happening. Who better to give advice about how to handle Lena than Lena. Imagine that convo, Kara tells Lena what's happening in real life, how they hurt each other. Lena tears in her eyes listens to all the ways she hurt Kara and vice versa looks deep into Kara's eyes and tells her "as long as you keep trying, I'll keep pushing you away" Kara blinks, confused, says "I'll never give up on you Lena, i promised to always be they're and i will". A soft smile comes over Lena as she grasps Kara’s hand, "i could never handle you thinking I'm a lost cause, I'll always try and prove you wrong. I'm not asking you to give up on me, I'm asking you to have faith that I'll always choose your side in the end". Kara looks at her, swallows slowly "so what, in supposed to tell you the truth, that i can't trust you anymore because you are so lost you see Lex as an ally? " Lena gets a smirk "Kara, if i chose Lex, it's because i know beyond any doubt that what I'm doing is wrong and o don't care what he thinks. I'll always care about what you think, It's why i most likely am keeping you away, shame makes me isolate ". Imagine if that conversation took place. It would still fit the show, keep it platonic, but add so many layers to what is happening.

So I was always confused by Red Daughter and Lena for a little bit. They really took the time to build this up and to make Lena just as important to Red Daughter as Alex was. This made no sense of the show was trying to imply that Kara and Lena were just friends. Red Daughter only had imprints of those who were very strongly attached to Kara and nine of Kara's other friends seemed to stand out this way. Then I read something a journalist who had some inside info. They originally wiped Alex's mind to give a reason for Lena and Kara to grow closer. In season 4, the show had looked into going full Supercorp, this was the most popular part of their fan base and they intended on going all in. They began this by removing Alex as Kara's main support, then by implying Kara's feelings for Lena were so strong, they carried over to Red Daughter. Red Daughter didn't hold back on her infatuation for Lena like Kara did, Melissa had no problems displaying Red Daughter as someone very very into Lena Luthor. The goal was never to kill Red Daughter, she was going to be the plot device they used to get Lena and Kara together and Kara was supposed to tell Lena she was Supergirl on the plain. But then tragedy struck, the higher ups in the WB, DC, and CW said no dice, Kara can't be with a woman. So they scrambled, with no choice but to keep moving on, they chose to end their efforts with Red Daughter by killing her off and they chose to have Lena turn on Kara, going the exact opposite route to where they intended at the beginning of season 4. No surprise, the destruction they did to Lena's character in season 5 is the reason the show fell so far in ratings during that season, even though season 6 ended up with great ratings, the damage done during season 5 insured no season 7.
