Welcome to our adapted world of adventure, exploration, and travel! We (Jeff and Vanessa) have been explorers since before we can remember. As a married couple, we have enjoyed countless hiking trails, plane rides, international trips, and connecting with others we come across along the journey.
On December 5th, 2022 we thought that our adventuring days were over after an accident that left Vanessa paralyzed. But little did we know that the end of one chapter was the start to an all-new adventure story.
We invite you to join us on our story learning how to adventure again...just with a few new adaptations.
We aim to encourage others to enjoy nature and try adaptions to help unlock adventures previously thought of as inaccessible.
Subscribe to our channel and help us start a new tribe of ever-growing adaptive adventurers. To share practical tips, advice, and personal anecdotes to help everyone start their own unforgettable journeys.
On to Adventure!

Thank you so much as I am trying to find out if I can bring a wheelchair or walker onto the train with mobility problem and I just booked in this hotel as well!!
So glad it’s been helpful!
Where did you your gloves?
These are the ones! I just didn’t want black, and I’m pretty small and they had extra small sizing. Ever-Dri Director's Showcase Color Guard Gloves (Tan, X-Small) www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYNT3DQ?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_ct_RF8ZYG3Z7TGB30NVFZC0&language=en_US
Thanks for sharing. I am not in a wheelchair, but have trouble bending my left leg due to a femur break on Christmas Eve 2021. I am planning on riding in 1st class on the train. Thanks again for sharing!!!!
You’re welcome! Have a great ride. :)
I wish I could see this again. I did see it once. Although I shall not see again. J. W.
It’s a grand site to see.
Don't worry about people looking they most likely are checking out your rides and want to have a go themselves👍
Haha! They are cool rides for sure.
This just randomly popped up and I absolutely love it! I hope y'all have a blast.
It’s a lot of fun! :)
Awesome😊
Thanks 🤗
My wife has MS and its progressed into her being in a wheelchair. Along with that, is her anger because she is losing her former self. Thank you for making this video
You are welcome. The anger is definitely a normal reaction to such a loss. I’ve experienced that in different ways too. Getting outdoors (something I e always enjoyed) with the support of Jeff and many others in adapted ways has meant so much in finding hope to enjoy my “old self” who loves being outdoors in new ways. I hope you find new adventures with your wife too. ❤️
@@CrabtreeAdventures What I am struggling with as a loving husband is helping her, when she dont need it or want it. She barks at me. So I let her wear herself out or crash and then she says "Okay John can you help me up?" lmfao So glad you all have the channel for people like me just coming into it.
here from the World is Accessible newsletter! great video - I subscribed!
Thanks for the read, for watching and subscribing - welcome! :)
I want to use these bikes so bad 😢 i wish i could aford to go get out of my bedroom and have a exciting adventure 😢
We have found several nonprofit out door organizations like Ability 360 (Phoenix) and High Country Adaptive Sports (Flagstaff) who have programs for cheap and reduced rates in several states. It might be worth checking to see if there is a program nearby. This is the only way we are able to afford this adventure.
You got this Vanessa!💪
Thanks for the encouragement 💪💪💪
THAT IS SO COOL!!!!
😎 So blessed to have this opportunity.
Awesome sauce!!!?❤
Yes it was!
I am so thankful for both your smiling faces and for your enthusiasm sharing your adventures in this new framework of your lives! You are both so positive and upbeat!! 🙌 I look forward to more Crabtree Adventures videos!!!
We are so thankful for you!
🥲
This is AWSOME!!!
It was a lot of fun!
Merry Christmas you two. Great video.
Thank you!
If you are interested in learning more about some of the accessible features at the Grand Canyon National Park, check out this full video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooFmsqifiau-irw.html
Maybe u should find out beforehand if they have an all accessible package before u go somewhere
We did the research before we left for sure and made the video to help others plan their trips! The goal for us is how can we adapt to make it work. And once we know how it works, how can we help share information so that others can get out and have adventures as well!
Those lifts come in handy! It's awsome huh?!
They are incredible. I think the thing that captivated me the most was that they are completely manual and mechanical.
Thanks for joining us on this adventure. What was your favorite part of our trip? If you haven't had the chance check out this series here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/napnrriqYZS5f5M.htmlsi=jYqtk9oXrBIaGclO

I’m so sorry u and anyone have these obstacles , they should consider everyone
Everyone has obstacles, regardless of ability. Our series of videos showcases all the wonderful accommodations that the Grand Canyon Railway has put in place to allow us to enjoy the trip - even the tracks are relatively easy to cross, as I demonstrate in the video.
With the billions of dollars in federal subsidies that the railroads get each year, they must be FORCED to comply with the ADA LAWS. These are laws and she SHOULD sue them every time she finds them thumbing their noses at a handicapped person. I believe that we taxpayers gad to bring our schools onto conformance in 1986. Where have they been for the last 35 or so years?
Thank you for sharing your perspective and watching our video. Our experience with the Grand Canyon Railway was highly accessible. They were terrific in helping this trip stay accessible for us! Feel free to check out the full video of our trip here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/napnrriqYZS5f5M.html That stated, there are so many areas in our society where companies need to follow ADA. It's crucial to ensure that transportation services, including railroads, are accessible to everyone in accordance with ADA laws. Addressing non-compliance is indeed essential. Let's continue advocating for equal access and inclusion for all. If you have any resources or additional information on this topic, feel free to share them. Open dialogue and awareness are key to making positive changes. 🌐🚂 #AccessibilityForAll
I start working for the GCRR in Williams on Monday! We hope you come back and i hope your wife gets better!
That is so awesome! We hope you had an amazing first could days at work!
@@CrabtreeAdventures IT'S INCREDIBLE! Amazing teamwork and great benefits are worth 714 miles
That's actually really cool 😊❤❤❤❤
🙏 Thanks for watching!
The same way people have been doing it for decades...
You are very much correct...however for those of us who are new to full-time wheelchair use this was a new experience we wanted to share!
Wonderful coverage. My wife is confined to a wheelchair due to a spinal injury. We love going camping etc but many places are not set up for the disabled. We almost went to Grand Canyon NP last year. Thanks for the information. We’ll go in 2024 thanks you revealing this fun excursion.
The Grand Canyon is definitely do able, with or without the train ride! There is lots of paved trail to see the canyon from, and generally adequate disabled parking. We haven’t braved camping yet since the injury but look forward to it.
I don’t know who told you that was the longest train tunnel in Arizona, but they were nowhere near correct.
It was absolutely a joke!
@@CrabtreeAdventuresAh okay, didn’t pick up on that at all sorry, but in looking into it I seem to have discovered that Arizona only really has one rail tunnel through natural terrain that I can find, the one along the Verde Canyon Railroad, which is interesting.
It would be interesting to see the Verde canyon tunnel! I definitely didn’t sell the joke very well in the video…guess I won’t quit my day job…😂
What a beautiful thing! Thank you for sharing!
Our pleasure!
Crabtree Adventures keeps getting better and better!! What a GREAT option to consider for accessible travel to see the Grand Canyon via the ‘Grand Canyon Railway’! 🚃 Fun!! 😊 Happy 10th Anniversary!!!!!!! 🎊🥳🥰
Thank you!
SOOO happy for you to be able to take this trip!!! GREAT VIDEO blog you two!!!
You WERE on a train in Michigan! You were with your mom, me and my nephew Eric! The Pumpkin Train from Coopersville to Marne and back!❤❤❤❤
I thought there was one! I remember being so scared before it took off.
That was a fun day!! 🥰
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥹
YAY VANESSA!!👏🏻👏🏻 so proud of you and all your hard work in physical therapy!❤️
Okay that’s pretty awesome, how is it with keeping in the direction you want to go? I guess what I’m asking does it steer easy or with control or ???
It's pretty good! Steering works just like normal with a manual wheelchair, though a little opposite. So like normally I'd push hard on one side to turn, instead I'm braking on the opposite side and the smartdrive is doing the pushing.. if that makes sense.
Thank you been looking for what it was called for my 10 year old cp son thank you.
Who's Manuel?
I bet Manuel is a good person...I had a typo and meant manual ----as in a non-power wheelchair.
Thanks for sharing these updates and your faith in God and each other, which is even more amazing given the statistics you mention! My prayers and Love go out for you both and I look forward to learning more about life with disabilities in future videos as y’all go ‘on to adventures’ 😍!! 👩🏻🦽♥️
Yes! Thank you for all your love and support!
I like the mood. Thank you again for sharing.
You’re welcome!
This is a beautiful thing -put to a beautiful song. Thank you.
is it half electric?
Kinda…but not really…it has an e-assist motor that helps give a boost but doesn’t fully work as a stand alone for too long.
Thank you all for checking out our latest adventure. If you enjoy following our journey please consider clicking that like and subscribe button. Thanks for journeying with us!
Have you considered requesting sponsorship, Jeff?
Absolutely, when the right moment arrives, we're definitely open to partnering with someone. Currently, our primary focus is spreading the word about these incredible, life-changing programs! They've truly been a blessing to us. Most of our funding comes from grants, and a big part of our mission is expressing our gratitude by sharing our story. High Country Adaptive Sports has played a vital role in helping us reconnect with the great outdoors safely and enjoyably. We feel truly fortunate to be part of their mission and to receive their support."
💚 Lovin this!! My hats off to Adaptive Adventures and to both of you for sharing your adventures! 💚
Glad you enjoyed it! <3
