After suffering episodic amnesia due to a Cerebral Event, I tried to trigger my memories with gaming.
What's it Like originally started as a Blogger project to help me recover some motor neuron skills and keep my brain busy. I fell in love with writing and gaming and despite not being very good at either, people seemed to enjoy my take on the world of gaming. After making a full recovery, What's it Like fell by the wayside and life took over.
Now that I'm traveling Australia and gaming on the go, I decided to restart What's it Like, mainly with a focus on Nintendo Switch content. I hope you enjoy my ramblings and the content I put out. I invite constructive criticism and collaboration so if you want to share your point of view, by all means, let me know!

Was the only reason I bought a Switch on the inital release........Thank you Grove Games :-) Have just returned after getting a little frustrated with the random crashing resulting in progression loss. It is 100% better and stable....so back on the grind.......
since i got the game like 7 years ago, i never managed to beat it. Thanks!
Thanks for helping dodge another eShop bullet. Unfortunately, Goat Simulator set a very buggy standard that doesn’t work for everyone. Although buggy, Bum Simulator was well worth the extra $.
Hi! Thank you for this video! Where did you find this planet? I need this!↓ 1:08
It’s very hard to do on my ds as I don’t know if it’s possible to do it with out moving the ds itself
F*ck this boss. How is kid supposed to do this?
This game is so repetitive and boring...
It's a shame you didn't like it.
I have tried this countless times and cannot do it. There needs to be a none for this level.
Even you search pokemon in Google you will see, that pokemon is a anime.
Dude pokemon is a anime, the person who tell you that is not a anime doesn't understand what is a anime and cartoon.
RYUJINX WON'T LET ME PLAY GRAND THEFT AUTO 3 VICE CITY SAN ANDREAS DEFINITIVE EDITION ON RYUJINX ONLYS
YUZU WON'T LET ME PLAY GRAND THEFT AUTO 3 VICE CITY SAN ANDREAS DEFINITIVE EDITION ON YUZU ONLYS
Great vid need to get this when it goes on sale
Thank you. It's a really unique game and definitely worth a purchase on sale!
I tried this game on ps5 because I had it through backwards compatibility. All I did was mash the shoot button until the guy was dead, said “not for me” and I turned it off lol.
Hahaha combat in 3rd person games has certainly evolved in recent years!
Wich planet is Dropzone One on? I ned to get back there and would prefer coordinates as well.
I'm unable to get back there sorry. Can any viewers help a fellow traveler out?
Can you recommend anything to pack to make things faster and easier? By the time I'm able to play this, it'll be close to the expedition deadline
TBH I didn't take anything. As far as expeditions go, this one is fairly straightforward and quick to complete
Awesome art style here. This looks like much fun.
Yeah, it reminded me of The Regular Show and Rick and Morty.
How to get it that awesome multitool ? its looks amazing
This was from a previous expedition, but you can still create staffs I'm just not sure how sorry :(
I'm interested in getting this, but just what the hell is the purpose of the game, is it a consistent game with no end like Elite or is there an end point?
It's not as hardcore as Elite, and focuses more on base building and space combat over trading. It's kind of "whatever you want it to be" sort of game. I have friends that played to get to the centre of the universe (the original objective of the game) and I just play to managed my base and fleet to make money.
@@whatsitlikeau That was an incredibly quick response, greatly appreciated, instant sub from me. I had the first Elite game back in 1986 for my C64, loved it back then and had much more time for it being 12 years old at the time. Fast forward all these years later I'm of course time poor, good to know when I'm getting into thanks to your comment. 👍
Oof, that's a lot of jank. I don't mind certain types of jank (after all, Skyrim has a near constant presence on my Switch's home screen). But there's "jank," and then there's JANK. This seems more the latter. Such a shame. That said, I have to admit the bit at 5:01 got a chuckle out of me. It's the sort of thing that's much more fun to watch than to experience firsthand - so thanks for sharing it, lol.
Hahaha you're welcome! Skyrim's jank is a part of its charm in my opinion. I think with a post launch patch a lot of these issues will be fixed hopefully
Very interesting. Once again, you've provided a unique POV on the game you reviewed. Like you, I tend to ignore games like these because I don't follow anime and don't want to watch an entire series to familiarize myself with the game's lore/characters. I'll probably give this a miss due to other stuff going on, but it does sound like something I could enjoy, despite knowing nothing about the series it's based on. Great job.
Thanks mate. Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised with it, and to me, it was just a great JRPG. Makes me wonder if I should grab that new Gundam game coming out
@@whatsitlikeau I've wondered about that one as well. If you do decide to grab it, I'd love to see a review from a similar perspective. No pressure tho. 🙂 Keep up the great work.
I went to play the network test but didn't have any luck lining up the times here in Aus. I'll most likely give it a crack and report in!
Go back to the starting planet for the 12.0 scan, underwater if i recall correctly.
That's good to know!
I'm currently playing through the Gamecube version, It's infuriating at times but so fun even with that 2000s gaming Jank
Yeah I think it's still a good game for sure, the new control scheme is really great. I vaguely remember the Gamecube version being a bit tricky to master?
I remember putting a ton of hours into this back in the end. It always baffled me that there weren't more Star Wars games where you play as a bounty hunter.
There was a promising project in the works a couple of years ago but it got canned :(
This really looks dated & I don't mean the graphics at all it's the mechanics. Although the controls got an overhaul it's still like you said way too janky. This would disturb me a lot. I should skip it sadly. 😢
Honestly, I used all my brainpower to come up with the "Janky Fett" subtitle on the full review. It's fun but yeah... got the jank.
@@whatsitlikeau sounds like a good pick when it's on sale. Great for some proper late night janks. 🤣
It’s a 20+ yr old game what did you expect ?
I expected as much, but it's also my job to point it out when reviewing games. Still a good game though!
The game is not limited to 30fps in handheld mode if you saw other reviews/comments mentioning this, that seems to have been a pre-release bug but has been fixed as of launch day today, I have verified it myself.
Thats good to know. I didn't think it was locked as even in docked mode there's moments of it looking really smooth.
A fantastic game and port. It is rarely I'm this satisfied with a game purchase at this price tag. If you enjoy skydiving in TotK, get this.
Yeah 100%. I paid full retail and regret nothing.
Those additions make the Switch version of today look in noticeable ways better than the PC release I first saw two years ago when I bought the game.
It's improved in leaps and bounds since launch. This update pushes the Switch!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Why would I like and subscribe before seeing the video?
Take a leap of faith, you might enjoy the other content. But really it's because since putting a CTA at the start of my videos, I have grown the channel at a great rate!
Now if only the community achievements would progress..
I finished the expedition to complete my guide so I won't get them. Have they moved at all?
@@whatsitlikeau i didnt close it out, didnt get the egg yet, and today the first extra bit was completed. The second one was almost finished.
The mood of Vice City seems totally lost with the new visual style/engine.
It's a shame. I think a straight port of the collection would have been the best approach.
@@whatsitlikeau An upgraded port like with the lara croft collection would be ideal. Running on the original engine but with the choice between old or newer visual style. That would require effort though... AAA Rockstar simply doesn't have the time or money... >_>
@TheSamuraiGoomba yeah 100%. The worst part is a lot of this was redone with AI instead of the care it should have had and sunk the Red Dead 1 remaster to be a straight port. Shame.
Is there a way to keep the grub cocoon egg for your main save? I hate when they give unique eggs that arent rewards that can be claimed on any save.
The pet can be collected from the rewards vendor in the Anomaly, I just checked on the Switch!
FX looks like garbage on Switch. The older FX3 looks way better and sharper and even has a ball reflection on the playfield. But FX is missing a lot of tables I like from FX3. So I play both... but FX is laggy! Haven't noticed this in FX3. So the newer one looks worse and has poor performance. But the physics are "better".... easier to control... but FX3 seems more realistic. So to be honest.... Zen pinball sucks!😅 It's a mess!
FX3 is certainly the better of the two. FX seems so hastily implemented and half baked at the moment. It's improved since this video... but not enough
@@whatsitlikeau The classic physics on Williams tables in FX feels too easy... with Fish Tales I can hit the multiball ramp over and over again. In FX3 the physics on tournament difficulty are pretty close but it is a little harder to hit the multiball ramp over and over again.. I need more skill in FX3 than in FX. in FX3 it feels like I'm playing a freshly waxed table.. and it feels good! In FX it feels like I'm playing an old beaten up playfield that is so rough it slows the ball down too much.
Yea I found no 12.0 guy hoping I find one along the path as I am not spending hours looking
If you didn't find it on Rendezvous 3, I've been told look for fire planets. Hope that helps. Hotfix came out today which may have addressed this objective.
@@whatsitlikeau I managed to get it, found it on a planet called purple Haze
I'm still pretty new to the game. Can you please explain how I can find the Fusia system you point to for the underwater goal? I'm not very good with the galaxy map...Is there a search function or do you just target random stars till you find the one you're looking for?
You should be able to do it on any planet with deep water. That system is a bonus as the planet is water & dissonant for crossing off 2 objectives. If you can't find it, simply find a planet with an ocean and as long as its 40u when you dive down you're good to go!
@@whatsitlikeau Thank you. That did it.
I'm after the new minotaur parts but it seems like people are not doing their part😒
I had to finalize my expedition for the guide, but on Switch it was at 0%
@@Miles_305 so we have basically to wait untill a certain amount of people do the expedition?
Let's be honest. It looks terrible compared to what was shown in trailers, the Switch benefitted very little from this update, and they didn't fix many of the issues the game has on Switch, or on all platforms, which you didn't mention, and the "free updates" over these 8 years has been them finishing a game they released in an unfinished state and making it feature complete. Only in 2024 did we get ship customization, a feature that should have been in at launch, or shortly after. And most of those other free updates are cosmetic and don't improve gameplay. I paid full price on Switch at release and I regret doing so. The switch version doesn't have the beautiful graphics of the other versions, and once you reach a certain point in the game, there is nothing to do unless you like building bases or doing mundane, repetitive tasks that you've already done dozens of times.
I mean, you can look at it from that perspective. On launch, they could have left it as is and moved onto a new project but they invested into the game and turned it around. I have a huge story coming out soon about it which you may find interesting. Switch version doesn't look like the trailers, but compromises had to be made to make it work on handheld, and it still looks incredibly for what it is in my opinion. It's a shame you didn't like it!
@@whatsitlikeau I reject that interpretation. They finished a game they released in an unfinished alpha state because if they didn't, they likely wouldn't have work in the industry again. Those updates weren't charity, they were a social debt, owed. You can delude yourself into a more charitable interpretation, as many players have, but that doesn't mean it's accurate. Switch version doesn't look like the trailers? So release Switch trailers, instead of misleading people. Release content updates that cater equally to all platforms and player types, not just a constant stream of shallow visual p*rn. It does not look "incredible" on Switch. It has some good moments of beautiful, amidst some pretty ugly, empty, barren landscapes. Tears of the Kingdom and many other first part Switch games look much better. Not because they're first party switch games, but because they use a timeless art style and good game design. I like much of the game, and it would thrive in the hands of competent game developers. I strongly dislike the misguided game design and business decisions behind it.
Too much yappin
In the intro or just too much yapping in general?
In the intro. It took 76 seconds to even start. The only reason I clicked the video is to learn how to make a starship. The tutorial should be instantaneous. But apart from that the information is comprehensible.
Thanks for the feedback! My new guides have a faster into if that helps but I'm always looking to improve
Expected a cute distraction. Got one of the deepest tycoon games Iv ever played. Massively underrated
100% One of the deceptively deepest management games. I love it!
The physical version of this seems to have only come out in japan and the UK. The pal region copies that were available on my countries amazon (canada) and the local specialty video game store sold out so fast. I'll probably get it on another platform if i cant get the physical.
We got it here in Aus but my local only had one copy and it came out a day after the digital release for some reason? I can email Bandai Namco and see if I can get some answers if there's going to be a restock if that helps?
@@whatsitlikeau wow thank you. i didnt even think of that. Seems its another case of North America not getting a physical release for some reason. 🤔
Did they ever fix the Friction Ring problem? I had to pop those rings off cause it prevented the sticks from registering full inputs. Games like Skyrim where you have to fully push the left stick up so your characters jogs, ends up walking cause the rings prevents the sticks from fully being pushed forward
I'm so glad you mentioned this because I changed my sensitivity to counter this. After reading your comment, I removed the Friction rings and it's perfect. I'll update the review on the website to reflect this issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
@@whatsitlikeau No problem!
Great video!! Had no idea this controller was coming to the market. Much appreciated!
It's actually been out for a while so most retailers should have it!
This is one of the worst bosses in the 3DS version and it’s just as terrible here.
I was so frustrating on the smaller screen!
I never played the original version but I love the game. This boss is pretty hard for it to be so early in the game tho
Yeah for sure. Should have been the 3rd last boss!
I'm really hoping this game gets upgraded on Switch 2. Having this game portable is why I still stick with the Switch version.
I would say they will do something similar like when the Series X came out
Great video... subscribed...
Thank you!
It's on sale right now, just picked it up
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
