Find out what it's like to travel by train or plane across Australia - and beyond. This channel is dedicated to showcasing travel by rail and air. It features train and plane reviews, documenting both the onboard experience as well as what you'll see along the way, with facts and figures about the journey and local towns and landmarks.
My name is Adam Joyce. I'm based in Adelaide, Australia and film using a GoPro Hero 8, GoPro Hero 10 and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Constructive feedback is welcome.
This channel was previously named "Aus Flight Channel" but has been renamed "From the Window Seat" to better reflect the type of videos I make.

Almost reaching your destination... ....again!
Nothing like _almost_ reaching your destination.
fantasic video, you much have been the youngest person by at least 40 years?
I live in Japan and I endorse this video! Japan is a train lovers paradise. Regarding not talking in the seating area of train carriages, I don't think there is no strict rule. In all the trains I've been on, you can talk quietly in the seating area. The Japanese are naturally quiet, so there is no need for a dedicated quiet carriage. As far as I know, there are no longer smoking areas on trains. I haven't seen any. I didn't know that the English announcer I hear is the person on the Piccadilly Line. Amazing!
you got reimbursed for missing out on 1 off train excursion when i went on the IP we missed out on 3 off train excursions, got delayed at cook for 8 hours and we had to get a coach from another station to go into Sydney that was 5 hours away making us miss out on half a day on the train and we got given no reimbursement.
Queen Adelaide restaurant just looks so much nicer than the Platinum one, I'd definitely go Gold to ensure I got the Queen Adelaide. Which direction do you find is better to sleep either parallel with the train like on your Indian Pacific run or perpendicular like on this trip on the Ghan? I'd probably take sea sickness/motion sickness meds that have drowsiness potential to help me sleep as well particularly on first night and maybe the 2nd as well.
This is so amazing
Thank you!
Awesome video
Thanks so much!
HOT
Cheers!
Na das sieht ja stinklangweilig aus...
To each their own. 💅
Great video, Do you know what the name of the song is which was used in your video?
Thank you! There’s actually five different tracks, all from the KZread Audio Library. If you look at the description of my video and scroll down, KZread should show you the five songs, which you can click on to hear.
4:26 operated by ptv?!
That’s a Google error … I think it’s just that the timetable data came from PTV. 🤔
this isn’t from a window seat it’s from a bridge or somethjng
True. From a drone.
Crazy this train manages to be this big and fast on 3' 6" track!
Ha! Trusty narrow gauge. 🤣
A very, very good video - I learnt a lot - Many thanks !
Great to hear. Thank you!
Great detailed video I really think Australia needs more trains.
Thank you. Agreed!
From stop a to stop a lol
Lol
I just love the stark beauty of the southern alps
Yes, they’re stunning.
No Bullet trains in Australia 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sadly not. 😢
If only we saw more regional trains in WA other than the current two 😕
Yes, that would be great. Although you still have it better than where I live, South Australia, where there are none. 😔
The old 90s Prospector was sop slow. 10 hours
True.
One of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. I enjoyed it so much I went back 18 months later. Hideous length flights from the UK tho! My trips were a long time before Adam's great video, trains were a lot older! The open air cars are fantastic. Scenery just spectalur
It certainly is a stunning place! Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊
Fabulous experience of a l8fetime - especially if you LOVE trains and train travel. Have done it both ways, Sydney to Perth and Perth to Sydney. What you miss in the night one direction, you catch in the daytime returning to Sydney. Recommend you ONLY take the top grade premium class cabins. Three and a half days on a train - you really do appreciate the total privacy of your cabin, all the extra space, service and comfort - and especially - your very own fully equipped ensuite bathroom and toilet. Worth tbe higher $$$$$.
Sounds great! Keen to try platinum one day … as well as travelling Perth to Sydney. 🤔
Greatly enjoyed this video. All Aussies should watch it.
Thanks so much! ☺️
Thank you for taking us on this wonderful journey. I'll be retiring to the Philippines in 5 years and then we'll be making our first vacation to Australia. But I think it will be a road tip. Again thank you very much. Peter from germany.
Thank you Peter - so good to hear that.
What a lovely trip. My mum always talks about visiting her aunty in the Otira Tea rooms.
It certainly is. Yes, it’s a pity they’re not open anymore.
It's very enjoyable. I felt as though I had been there.
Great to hear. Thanks for watching!
Even if only 1% of people travel to canberra, the trains still have so many customers! I wasn't able to book a trip recently because it was fully booked😂
Good to know! Another reason, to improve the service.
For what you're getting, I can't bellieve how reasonable it is! I think I'd rather this than the Orient Express - though of course we'd have to get to Australia first!
Yes, it’s expensive but is all inclusive like a cruise. 👍
Im hooked with your video!! Thus , convinced me enough to book this train journey for my upcoming trip to NZ this coming Nov!
That’s great to hear. Enjoy!!
Great video. Like me ! ! !
Thank you! ☺️
Mate, I love your train videos but please; that bloody music on this trip is as annoying as the *"HELLO, FRANK WALKER FROM NATIONAL PILES"* AD ON THE RADIO. It is driving me nuts listening to the same tune playing over and over again!
Come on … you can’t criticise Frank Walker from National Tiles! What a legend! 😝😂😂😂
I have sadly watched the decline of the rotorua branch railway. From 2001 onwards, its just been endless vandalism. However. I will do the te huia one day
That’s sad to hear. Would have been a great tourism opportunity!
Thank you Adam. Such a great video. I worked for a Japanese Company for many years & stupidly I never pushed for a visit to Japan! I regret that, would love to have visited this amazing country. I bet my Dalmatian would love to travel at 300kph on a Shinkansen, I know I would! Sadly don't think he'd enjoy the flight to get there, unless he was allowed to run around the cabin making everyone laugh
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. ☺️
@@FromtheWindowSeat Admittedly I did visit New Zealand, my most favorite country ever & jumped out of an Airplane at 15000 feet over Lake Taupo. Thats an interesting way to get a view LOL
@@jezzter4293 wow … that would have been quite the experience!
@@FromtheWindowSeat It was along way down. 1 minute freefall. Totally amazing
Thanks for your video's. I live in the UK with my 2 yr old Dalmatian now. I watch travel thanks to people like you. Stay safe & be well ok
15:16 I hope that is reusable, if not so much plastic trash
I think the idea is to keep it as a souvenir / reusable lunchbox.
Took this flight last week on the red-eye from Perth back to Melbourne, same seat too, 4k, though configured for 7 rows of 4 in the one part of the cabin, and I must say being able to flatten the seat and close my eyes meant I was able to fall asleep on a plane for the first time ever for a proper nap. Definitely an addictive service.
Sounds great!
There are no "Guards" on VLINE trains - they are "Conductors", who are predominantly Customer Service and Passenger Safety focused.
Ah, apologies about that.
@@FromtheWindowSeat no probbies mate - just wanted to point it out. There have not been any guards on Victorian Railways for quite some time 🙂
21:57 The origin of the 🙉🙊🙈 emojis!!!
Well spotted sir! 💯
Did he just say Bidi beach is on the Pacific Ocean. I thought is was the Tasmin Sea. Ah well……they all connect anyway.
The Tasman Sea is part of the South Pacific Ocean. The reason I specifically made the Pacific reference is because that’s why the train is named the Indian Pacific. 😉
@@FromtheWindowSeat okay then…
oohh nice
Cheers!
oohhh nicee Dear
Thanks!
nice dear
Cheers!
Australia is one of my favorite countries❤
Happy to hear that!
The food looks disappointing. This is definitely better than driving as I did twice. Imagine how many people have pee’d in those basins in the rooms 😂
The food was really good tbh. Ewww … the actual toilet isn’t that far away! 🤮
Nice review, thankfully all those restrictions are behind us!
Thank you!
640 km in 8 hours. Are we travelling on camels?
🤣🤣🤣 Thankfully more comfortable than a camel … and also quicker … a camel would take about 5 days to cover this distance (not including stops) but I take your point. 🐪
Gorgeous!
Cheers!
What amazes me is that most of the travellers are predominantly white elderly folks. Seems like a colonial tradition in whites, no asians, blacks or any other seen in the video.
The majority of passengers on these trains tend to be by reasonably well off (given the cost) retirees … not sure if that plays a part. At the time of filming, inbound tourism to Australia from Asia hadn’t yet rebounded so there were quite a few British people and Europeans but that was about it, however not sure this was representative as i understand pre-Covid the train also attracted a lot of Chinese tourists. 🤔
Do a video on Imelda Marcos Airways.
What, she has her own airline?! 🤣
Hey Adam, what is your email address, I have seen a book on TradeMe that you might be interested in. It closes in about 4 days & I will email you the details. Oh PS the book is about train history in NZ . Rich
