I have that same crash cart I use as a toolbox too! that’s too funny 😂
Very helpful, thank you!! I’m a furniture hobbyist and have a bit of experience with the gravity feed and the sprayer with a pressure pot. I purchased the Avanti version on this video and had an uneven result which drove me to search and find your video… thank you for confirming my suspicions; it is likely I am going to return the Avanti.
Thank you for watching and so glad you found it helpful!
I have the same saw, it works great, and like yours mine was also properly adjusted out of the box. I haven't used mine very much yet, but the few projects I've needed it for, its done great, seems to have more power than the old 12" Chicago Electric model I had before. I got mine on sale for $299. About 1/2 the price of those other brands, and honestly they're not as great as people want you to think. I've had all the so called "Brand Name" tools, and they still broke, they still needed periodic adjustments, etc. So why pay more to get the same results that a less expensive tool can give you. I also have the Hercules 12-1/2" Thickness Planer....it has 3 cutters on the head VS 2 that many other brands have, it does a great job, and definitely worth the money. If I recall I paid $349 for the planer, it was on sale the same time the miter saw was, and I bought both. I do not have the miter saw stand, I have a Black and Decker Work Mate that I put the bench dogs in, and set the miter saw or the planer on and clamp them down while I'm using them, when I'm done the saw and the planer go back on the shelf out of the way, and the Work Mate folds up and sits against the wall out of the way. The Hercules Miter Saw and that Thickness Planer are both heavy tools, I was surprised how heavy they were, I wasn't expecting that, usually the stuff from Harbor Freight isn't built as well....can't complain about either tool, they are doing very well for my homeowner/DIYER needs. I have a few of the Bauer cordless tools and a few Hercules cordless tools as well, and they seem to be doing fine.
Great feedback, thank you!
Nice video guys. Very informative. Thanks😊
Thank you so much
One of the better reviews on this saw that I've seen. Been on the fence for a while, thinking about replacing my Delta compound miter saw with a sliding model to accommodate wider boards. Your review helped me decide. Headed to HF tomorrow. Thanks
So glad it was helpful for you. I hope you enjoy the Hercules as much as we do.
Thanks for answering how long to wait between each coat. Forgive this question; but will the paint in the sprayer be ok while waiting for the first coat to dry. Or do you need to clean up the sprayer and remix and filter the paint between coats?
Yes, you can leave the paint in the sprayer in between coats. Thank you for the question and thank you for watching!
I never write negative comments, but this time I made an exception. Firstly this primer, whatever and however you do it is peeling off. And thats not only my personal opinion, a lot of people tried and they just wasted money as this is expensive (in UK) and useless. Is almost impossible to paint or prime over granite or glazed tiles - surface is to slippery and paint or primer do not adhere to this kind of surfaces. You need to show us after some time and usage, that this primer is still OK on granite. Anyway, I do appologise but this video is like promoting or advertising product. And that is not the point to encourage people to spend money for that
Thank you so much for watching our series on painting your granite countertops. I'm happy to show you pictures more than a year after this video was made. We do not promote any products that we do not use ourselves and fully believe in. We find slick stick to be a very good bonding primer. Maybe you did not prep your piece properly. Even though you are using a bonding primer, there is asignificant amount of prep involved in ordering for the best outcomes. We certainly appreciate you taking the time to make a very rare negative comment.
I have also painted several marble pieces using slick stick as a primer and they have held up just fine. There are always going to be those rare exceptions where a surface doesn't take well to a product. This video was not made to promote products. It was made to show people and alternative to changing the look of their countertops if they do not wanna spend the crazy amount of money to replace the granite. As Dixie Belle paint retailers, it would only be natural for me to teach, explain, and promote the products I use and sell.
To six miles up, etc. If you had any problems Harbor Fright would have returned your purchase within 30 days with No questions asked. As a customer for over 20 twenty years this has never been a problem. I had the Chicago saw for over ten years the saw still works fine for rough cuts. After reviewing the KZread Hercules sites, I did my own alignment checks and still found no problems. As for my new Hercules it was set up on my patio. So, I went out and checked the square on the fence as you mentioned and found No out of alignment. One of the first things I do is check my tools within two to three days after purchase since I will be using the saw for close tolerance work. In comparison to the other major brands within $700.00 dollars, Hercules has become the best on the market.
Great advice and feedback. Thanks so much!
Great video. Patient, thorough and detailed enough for a total novice. Thank you, sir.
You're welcome, and thank you so much for watching.
😬
Hi again…so I’m trying to do this on ribbed corduroy and the DB paint seems too thick to move about plus when it dried it’s very thick. Should I dilute the paint with water and if so, would you recommend a % ratio to the paint? Tia!
Hi there! It sounds like you definitely need more water. There really isn't a specific ratio, just thin enough to dye the material. If you want, you can message me on our FB page and we can chat.
Nice explanation dor used
😊
I bought the Hercules miter saw about 3 years ago to do hobby work & has been very good to me. The 1 thing I don't like is that the bolt is that the bolt for the blade is on so tight I haven't been able to change the blade.
On all miter saws, you actually need to turn the bolt clockwise to loosen it. Give that a try and let us know if you have better luck.
You are probably trying to turn the bolt the wrong direction. Its a right hand threaded bolt....don't worry it gets a lot of people....
I am going to do this myself ill send pics of before & after
That is wonderful! Can't wait ❤️
What name brand blade are you using and how many teeth? Nice clean cuts
That's the hercules 12 inch 80 tooth fine finish blade. And yes, it makes a nice clean cut. Thank you for watching and for the question.
How has it held up? Any scratches? I assume no heat to this surface. Great videos. Thank you
It's held up pretty well. There are some superficial scratches that we need to lightly sand and apply another coat of poly. We can put a hot cup of coffee directly on the surface without any issues but we don't put anything fresh out of the oven on it. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I would have put a primer on the table. Before the pour. 😮
Thank you for the comment. On a wood table primer is not required. You would only need to prime if the surface was slick or if you expected some tanin bleed through. Primers are for bonding or blocking and neither of those were anticipated to be a problem.
Hello! Billie from Delaware DBell sent me here! Great work, I’m about to do a club chair with a camel saddle footrest (for realz!) -can you explain how you handled the tufted button area and creases, specifically did you paint under the buttons to make sure that when it’s dry there’s full coverage? Tia!
Thank you for watching and for the comment. That sounds like a great project! The creases and buttons aren't usually a problem because you are using enough water to allow the paint to get into those areas. Just be sure to allow enough dry time. Use thin coats. You may needs several more coats to get the coverage you want.
Loved your original granite! You ruined your countertops! Yikes!
Thank you for watching our series on painting our granite countertops. We would have to disagree that we did not ruin them, in fact, we are still enjoying them.
I pay very close attention to reviews, and I've not heard of a single negative review from any person who owns and uses Hercules power tools. One mechanic made a whole KZread video explaining that his Hercules cordless impact driver, and other small power tools were more reliable than Milwaukee. Another tool reviewer said he prefers the build quality of the Hercules miter saw, and it's a better saw, for less money than the Dewalt. I found it difficult to get honest reviews on circular saws in general. The tests that some channels do, are not real world tests, they are just stress tests, and don't show accuracy, or ergonomics, or battery capacity. I ended up purchasing 2 "Flex" brand circular saws, because they have the best specifications, and best batteries for the money. When doing a comparison between Milwaukee and Flex, I encountered some critical flaws in the M18 Milwaukee circular saws. But strangely, when I tried to make a KZread video exposing the defect, this platform's algorithm stopped the video from being seen anymore. The implications are that you are not actually "allowed" to make negative videos about Milwaukee.... Hmm...
Thank you for watching and for your comment. We can't really comment on anything you are describing. We just wanted to do a review on a saw that we really like.
Why not just skimcoat with real cement?
We wanted to use this technique.
I'm not brave enough to try this but I would LOVE to brighten my kitchen countertops. I have a small galleyway kitchen with no natural light. The previous homeowner installed black granite countertops. I can't even see well enough to clean properly. I wish i could afford to rip it out and replace it. I would rather have cheap beige vinyl countertops than black granite! Seriously, who puts black countertops in a dark kitchen?!!!
Be brave! We did it because we couldn't afford new countertops too.
I have this saw and I love it
Great!
Thank you for the video. The look you went for was exactly what I wanted to do over my granite. So happy I found you. Much more comfortable doing this now using the same products after seeing your process and end result. Thank you again, much appreciated!
I'm so glad you found this helpful. I would love to see how it turns out.
I will definitely show you when done. Thanks again.
what is that cloth called?
It's a tack cloth. You can get them at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc
Great video Very informative and helpful. i would like to see more info on you dust collect for this saw
Thank you for watching and for your feedback. We can certainly look at doing a short video on the dust collection system. Stay tuned!
@@soulmatesandsawdusttn One of the negatives that other reviews have posted regards the dust collection port not functioning very well with either the bag or a vacuum system. Really like to see your application. Thanks.
I just bought this saw but in process of building a bench for it so haven’t used it yet. However, after watching your video, I’m happy I made the purchase!
Thank you for watching and please let us what you think about the saw once you start using it.
Respectfully. I absolutely loved the original granite countertop. I would have changed the tiles and cabinet door handles to suit rather than paint the granite. You are very patient to go through this whole process but my money is on the original stone.
Thank you for your feedback
I bought this a couple of years ago. It is pretty much pure junk. I discovered (too late for return) that the fence is not even close to being within plane of either side. If you are looking at it, the left side of the fence that is bolted to the saw is not coplanar with the right side. If you place a straightedge on the left side and slide it towards the right side, it will hit the leading edge of the fence. Basically, the fences are tilted towards each other. I removed the entire fence system from the saw, mounted it in my Bridgeport mill, and brought it into alignment. Still, the sliding portion of the fence is so far out of whack (tilted towards the back of the saw) that I am probably going to toss this junk before I waste any more time on it. Harbor Freight's "dumb tools," such as sockets and wrenches, are fine, but I will never buy anything like this from them again. It would be fine if I was just doing rough, and I mean rough, framing, but I am doing trim, and it just does not work for that.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with this tool, but I wonder if we're talking about the same saw. I also have a Chicago Electric Harbour Freight saw and an Admiral saw. I experienced the same problem you had with the Chicago Electric saw and I only use that for rough construction jobs. Its basically junk but works in a pinch. The Admiral is a decent tool for the average craft carpenter. I use it in my classroom where I teach basic woodworking. The laser is terrible but the saw has stayed square and true for a few months now. I seldom use it though. Time will tell I guess. That being said, the Hercules 12 inch sliding compound miter saw is my favorite miter saw, and I have had several good brands. I have had this saw for two plus years and it has never needed to be adjusted right out of the box. I am a fine furniture builder and my tools need to be precise as I'm sure you need yours to be. This tool is as good as some that go for $800.00 in my estimation. The motor went out on my Dewalt a few years ago and I didnt have the money to put out for another one, so I did a little research and while the saw was fairly new on the market, I took a chance and I have never looked back. If I have any complaints about this tool, it's the noise of the motor and the lack of a full brake. Again, sorry you had this experience but this has been a great tool for me. Thanks for your comments on the video.
@@soulmatesandsawdusttn I wish I could post pictures on KZread, but yes, it is definitely the Hercules saw. I might make a short video regarding the issues I see with this saw. I have done fine furniture building (as a hobby) for about 35+ years. I previously owned the Bosch 10 SCMS but needed a 12" for trim that I am doing in our new house. I am going to revisit the Bosch and the Makita saws today and probably make a change. I can buy the whole fence system from Harbor Freight for $65 or so, but I am concerned that I will end up with the same issue. It is actually rather astonishing how far out of whack my HF Hercules saw fence is.
Good video and informative ... you mention some different saw blades you have used on this miter saw ... would you mind mentioning some of them and reason why? I plan on buying mind this week while it is on sale, thanks!
Thank you for your feedback. I would recommend either Hercules or Bauer 12" blades. The 40 tooth ripping blade and 80 tooth finishing blade that are great to get you started.
@@soulmatesandsawdusttn thanks 🤙
The "cheap" big box store blades, namely Diablo, are the best blades. Because they have an anti-kickback "raker tooth" or "shoulder tooth" behind the cutting tooth. The really expensive blades aren't really as safe, because they don't have the anti-kickback raker teeth. The $200 Ridge Carbide or Forrest blades don't have any anti-kickback features. The cheap blades are slightly less likely to kickback and grab the board, because they are specifically designed for safety. One big channel recommends either the Freud Diablo or the CMT brand. CMT also has glowing reviews. Use a thin kerf, make sure you only buy a "thin kerf" blade which is approximately 0.087" wide kerf (cut) because it produces less dust, unless you have a reason for a standard thicker blade (slightly more accurate).
We specialize in custom built furniture, furniture repair, refinishing, and painting. What project can we help you with?
that’s quit a blade you have there. must make clean cut.
Yes, it's a 12" fine tooth blade. It cuts very clean.
This can’t last long and seems that it’d need constant paint touch up .
It's certainly not as tough as the granite or epoxy but it's held up just fine for our purposes. It hasn't required any paint touch up because we properly prepped it and as far as scratches, we do have some superficial ones that will eventually require a light sanding and sealer. Thank you for your comment.
Hi, I’m Pat from Newnan, Ga. and new to paint pouring. You don’t have to prim the table before applying the paint?
Hi Pat! Not this one in particular. Since it's real wood, a proper cleaning with TSP is all it needs. If the surface is laminate or very slick and shiny, then you would want to use a bonding primer.
OMG! You ruined those beautiful granite countertops!
Just buy laminate if that's the look you are going for! ;)
Thank you for watching our How to Paint Your Granite Countertops " video.
So brave, you guys are wonderful working partners. I am impressed with this project so much I will let you know if I am courageous enough to try it.
Thank you for watching and for the comment! We are here to help you if you decide to do your own.
The granite looked so much better. I’m so sorry. I hope you stay happy with your decision. I would have painted the cabinets a warm green or tawny color.
We are very happy with it! Thank you for your feedback
I’m a beginner so they’re great for me because once I learn how to use on the not a good tool then I upgrade to a better tool I just bought this off of Hercules thanks for showing me some stuff
Thank you for the feedback and tuning in. We appreciate you!
What is the white paint stuff on the window?
Before applying the decoupage paper I used a product called Slick Stick which is a bonding primer. I also could have just painted the glass white but the primer will adhere better in the long run. When you have a white surface, your decoupage paper will look brighter.
thank you @@soulmatesandsawdusttn
Nice comments and reveiw i have to replace my Stolen Dewalt 12” Mitre Saw and i think this is my next one. i agree with you onHercules and Bauer tools at HF most Mitre Saws go out of adjustment from not transporting them correctly or Operator Abuse
Thank you for your comments. If you end up getting the Hercules, let us know what you think.
Is it safe to put food on to countertop?
You will always find varying answers to this question. Most experts agree that once polyurethane is cured, it is food safe.
I have the old HF turbine sprayer i think i paid $60.i have done alot with it even precat lacquers
Let us know if you've built cornhole boards and if you have any tips or tricks!
I have the Ryobi 12in compound miter saw. I had a massive kickback and bent the fence and broke the blade guard. I can't find parts. It's black Friday weekend and the saw is going for $229. I'm going to get one today.
Wow, that is the lowest price I've seen for the Hercules. Let us know what you think once you've used it. Thank you for the comment and for watching.
I think the saw for $229 is just the compound miter saw, not the sliding one. The sliding one is $299 on sale right now.
how is this holding up after 1 year? any chipping?
It’s held up great. We haven’t had any chipping at all but that is because of how good we cleaned and primed before painting it. There are some superficial scratches in the polyurethane, but they are minor. We just need to do a light sanding and apply another coat of polyurethane and that should take care of them.
Some of their tools are junk, let's be honest. But, this saw is a winner. I've had mine about two years as well. Mine was slightly out of square (1/2 degree) out of the box. Easy fix. One thing I use a lot is the hold down that also comes with it. And the depth stop is great for dados and rabbets.
Thanks watching and for your feedback. It’s a really good saw for the price.
Happy Thanksgiving guys.... Jeff and Chris
Thank you and a Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
