The picture depicts the literate meaning - and consequence of not following god's rules, and living your life however you want. The people didn't thought a big demon comes and eats them when they have sex. But in the way that you act outside of god's favor you sin and please the devil. (as in, you do what he wants. because his ultimate goal is to get your soul, to get you down to the place of suffering where he suffers, and to not let you enter heavens) Thats why its also common to see joyful devils in medieval pictures during a murder scene, a suicide or anyhting else. Also you often see devils in medieval pictures on a death bed with money bags, knives or anything else to tempt the dying person to do something bad just before they go. to have the last chance to take their soul away, without any chance for repentance anymore. The devil in the picture is the personification of sin and the consequence of sin is to go to hell. So we see the devil grabbing for the people in the bed. (as in, taking their souls away)

There is something weird in the concept, mirie it is is a light song, talking about the non-permanence of anything, this rythm of your version has the opposite meaning, it´s an overwhelming eternal rythm which cant never fit with the lirycs. The rythm is nice, the note variations are nice, the voice effects are nice too but can´t never fit with "mirie it is" meaning, but hey better this version than anything

Are you sure that "Mirie" is a "light song"? As far as I know it literally complaints about the harsh weather in winter and the hunger and sorrow (and worst case: death) it brings to many people. Personally, I think this rendition works quite well...

Merry it is while summer lasts... I sorrow, mourn and fast... First and last lines give the exact meaning. It's probably a work song and can be sung however pleased :) To each their own. To me it could be a bittersweet song about the passing of warm and good times.
