This channel is all about my journey with a whiskey. I will select a whiskey, live with it for a week or more, give first impressions, tasting notes, and how the whiskey changes based on the day and my experience with it. I will also provide any additional information surrounding the whiskey's history, price and availability.

For the July drawing! Well I guess they can keep that basic bourye in Utah lol. It's released throughout Utah only.
lol I love how she was worried about saying "cannabis" but blurts out "I'm not playing with myself" LMAO
Yet again, another great video from you two! Big fan of the Redwood Empire brand, especially the cask strength ones!
I have only tried 2 and have liked both. I'm excited to try more! Cheers!
So far I've liked everything from them. I have the Foggy Burl Single Malt scheduled for a review in August. Cheers!
Heard new ones are not as good as older.
I've heard the exact same thing. Cheers!
Fantastic video, my favorite along with the Three Swallows bottle
I'm still waiting for the cask strength bottle to show up in the states. I'm sure it's going to be fantastic and give Redbreast 12 CS a run for its money.
Bou-rye. Only 1 R so I'll assume it's not pronounced bour-rye. How's it compare to the new $45 Jim beam bourye?
I have not had or seen the new Jim Beam yet so I can't compare. 😞
Great video Peter and Mary! Cheers!
Thanks!
Thanks! Cheers!
Hi Peter, I think it would be interesting if you make a "10 bottles collection" or "$300 dls collection" video... I'm mean, could be fun
Good idea. I need extra Friday content. Let me see what I can put together. Thanks!
MB needing validation!! Well your hot, smart, entertaining, and the reason I watch this channel LOL. You know your whiskey, so keep doing this.
Validation at its finest.
Wow, a nice validation. Well, thank you! I'm beginning to feel a little more confident with my whiskey tasting. It's actually exciting. I'm still waiting for the day when I prefer a glass of whiskey over a glass of wine. That's when I feel I can call myself a "Whiskey Drinker." Cheers!
Wasn’t overly impressed by 46, but not bad by any means. The French staves certainly give it a different note. But for the price I’d personally rather go for a Basil Hayden Toast
French staves give off a higher spice note for me. Not the biggest fan unless there's enough sweetness to off set it
Proud of you MB.!!! 🥃 But keep in mind that 8 out of 10 people will interpret an identical sensory perception (of SMELL in this case) differently. Along with Redwood Empire Devils Tower (which is better than Lost Monarch), this is one of my favorite high rye bourbon expressions. Well done guys..!!!! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks. I have not heard of the Devil's Tower.
Thanks! 8 out of 10??? That seems high ratio, but I believe it. Is it also true for taste?? Peter might just have to try and find Devils Tower for us to try! Cheers!
Congratulations on getting the Bourye, one of the few High West bottles that interests me. 🥃
Based on what I'm seeing and reading this release was not the best. Oh well.
Thank you for the nice review. Springbank 12 is for me the best whisky I ever had. I agree that it is a little difficult whisky to work with but I found that if you leave it for 30 minutes in the glass to rest and add water into it then it opens up and become very accessible. sláinte 🥃
I've also heard that it gets better over a year as well. I'll revisit it again next year and see. Cheers!
I remember enjoying the High West Bourye back when it was more affordable, but I’m a bigger fan of the Lost Monarch. Excellent video! 👍🏼
Thanks. I've heard that past releases were better than this one. 🤔
Great video. Always enjoy your reviews due to both content and on camera chemistry.
Thanks! I enjoy producing these episodes and it's nice to have my sister on. We play off of one another novelty.
Thanks! I like that you can tell we genuinely enjoy each other's company! Glad it comes across on camera. I hope you are also learning about whiskey as well as being entertained. Cheers!
Really enjoy this channel!
Fab channel!!
Thanks!
Thank you and thank you for your viewership! Peter is trying to get to 10K by the end of the year! We would appreciate it if you shared his channel with your whiskey drinking friends. Cheers!
One of the fun things about the trip I’m on is being able to find single malt scotch, especially peated, that I can never find in Vancouver! Laphroaig Cairdeas 2024! A couple of Lagavulins! Costco Kirkland peated scotch!! lol!! 😂
I try to hit stores when I'm out of town to see what they have compared to AZ.
Kirkland make some good stuff!!! Not surprised that their scotch is one of them. Peter will have to give it a go!
Nothing like a good snort Mary lol. I love watching you 2
When she gets going there's no stopping her.
Hey, you know when the snorts come out, you are laughing from your soul! There is also no one that can get me going like Peter. Next to my daughter, he's the funniest person I know! Thank you so much for watching. We appreciate you! Cheers!
Hey we all need validation at times!! Trust me!! Love listening to you both!!
Thanks! I think the need for validation, particularly from my siblings, is because I'm the middle child! I always care more about what they think than anyone else. Why? Future therapy topic maybe??? 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Hi Peter and Mary-Bridget!! I like Rye spice so I’m okay with a bit of this BourRye but it’s not a whisky I’d buy again. It sounds like we are in close agreement?! It’s not bad! Cheers friends!! You both rock!!
It missed the mark with us. Still good, but nothing we would get again unless the reviews of a new batch were spectacular.
im in nys and got this for $55. really enjoying it.
Good price. I like this edition the most. Cheers!
2 July entries please. Bryan H
Got you in for 2 in July. Best of luck and thanks for the support.
I think Mark Twain (at least he’s one of the people given credit for it) said: “Comparison is the thief (or death) of joy”. Maybe that’s what you were thinking of?
That is what I was thinking of. Thanks!
I picked up my first KC9 SBR yesterday for $38.99 at Costco! It has definitely got some giddy up in it with that proof. Lovely full bodied pour with sweet creamy cherry, warm spices and peanut butter and chocolate. Great mouth feel. The finish is nice and long . I was a little concerned that it would drink a bit hot but it is really quite well balanced (with a nice proof flex). I'll be going back to Costco tomorrow for a backup bottle. All in all a fantastic bourbon - it will be a staple for me.
I really enjoy this bottle as well. It was my bourbon of the year in 2023. Great value and fantastic flavors. Cheers!
Please review Balcones Cataleja if you get a chance
We get a lot of Balcones in AZ, but I have never see the Cataleja. If I see it I will pick it up. Cheers!
I never was a whiskey drinker, but when I drank, it was scotch. Recently, I've become interested in bourbon, so I bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve and I loved it. I decided to try more bottles to explore other options, and I purchased a Jim Beam bourbon. Honestly, I didn't like it; it had a lot less flavor than the Woodford Reserve, and it felt thin. Then, I bought a 1792 Bottled in Bond and a Four Roses Single Barrel... Boy, it was fire in my mouth haha, but I liked it. I think I just have to get used to it. My next bottles will be Knob Creek 9 and Woodford Reserve Double Oak Regards from México
The next bottles you are going to try sound good. The Woodford Reserve Double Oak is a bold bottle packed with flavor and should stand out among the other bottles you have tired...in my opinion. Cheers!
I recently tried the Westward (not the CS) for the first time and the first thing on my nose was play doh. Really weird. Let it rest for a few minutes and then it was gone.
I think the CS benefits from time in the glass as well. Cheers!
You two are so amazing!! I love your videos!! Fabulous!! Almost back from a family holiday!! Love your videos!! :-)
That's great! I hope you are having a great time on holiday! I'm back to work as of this past Friday.
@@whiskeyisajourney I have a couple of friends who are high school teachers and I think they are heading back to work in a week or so. The summer flies by so quickly! Cheers!! 🙂
Hope you are having a great time on vacation!! Cheers!
@@mary-bridgetfasciano9970 Thanks so much Mary-Bridget!! You are so kind!! We are having an amazing time! We get back and head out again so there's lots to look forward to! Hey I listened to the Captain and Tennille!! Hope I spelled the name correctly! Hugs! I hope everything is awesome!! 🙂
Oh my Peter, your reaction to the Westward is priceless. I have not had the Aberlour, but I have had the Westward 90 proof that I totally enjoyed. I also have the Westward Cask Strength. However, mind is a single barrel at 129.08 proof and is 8 years old. I do not get any paint thinner or nail polish remover. I just get a rich, thick pour without the burn. Just really nice. Such a entertaining video. Cheers!
The CS is wild. I have the normal release and I'm looking to add a few more Westwards to my collection. A single barrel would be great. Cheers!
I am in the Westward club and they have ‘single barrel’ selection in their club releases, but they are not Cask Strength. A recent one, called Vintner’s Cuvée is a single barrel and 48% ABV. It is one of my favorite I have had so far. In my next ‘drop’, I will need to add a Cask Strength. Cheers!
Lol just the other day I was just trying to explain Captain and Tennille to my 11 year old.
I wasn't a fan of them, but apparently my sister is. Cheers!
How funny!! Butterscotch Castle and Love Will Keep us Together were my favorites! Oh, And the bulldogs ( I think that’s what they were if I remember correctly) on the album covers! When music was innocent!! lol!
@@mary-bridgetfasciano9970 lol don’t forget Muskrat Love.
@@bubbleman244 YES!!!!!
I am not a big lover of single malts. Someone sent me a blind and I picked Westward Cask Strength as the best. I went out and bought a bottle. 🥃
I'm not all that crazy about their normal release, but the CS takes you for a wild ride. Cheers!
... oh... the blend! Such anxiety. Shit.
😂😂😂
It wasn't the best.😞
The pre Alba A'Bunadh was my first cask strength scotch as well. If you can find one, you should try the non Alba version of the A'Bunadh. It's sherry cask matured. Also, if you want to experience cannabis, come to Ontario, more pot-shops than coffee-shops.
I'm a fan of sherry cask so I'll keep an eye out for it. Cheers!
Shocker. Canada 🇨🇦 🍁 🦫. Ottawa. Like, 10 years. But I'm no super taster or smeller. So many folks progress and leap frog past me. But I like what I like, even if I don't necessarily know the exact notes.
As long as you can say I like it or I don't like it that's enough.
I have both those in my collection. I love Westward and have several different bottles and a great one is the Syrah Single Barrel. You still get the unmistakable Westward note but it tones it down slightly.
I will need to keep an eye out for that. I'd like to pick up some more Westward dottles. Cheers!
Kilchoman getting hard find
LOVE that you called out that 'cannabis' note in the Westward. I'm in the PNW and have had a lot of Westward, Westland, Copperworks, and McCarthys. I always get that note in Westward, but I call it a cheesy hop note in the finish. It is the reason that I don't prefer Westward but much prefer Westland and McCarthys. Copperworks can also be pretty decent, and interestingly enough, I get that hop-like note in it sometimes, but it seems to not be as funky as Westward and fades as I drink it.
She called it right away. I know power of suggestion works because as soon as she said it I got it. Cheers!
The cannabis not was so distinct. I wasn’t expecting that, but didn’t mind it. It seems by many of the comments, I may be the only one that doesn’t mind it! 😂 Cheers!!
The most recent CopperWorks single barrel had a strong ‘Hop’ (Cannabis) flavor. I was up there on a tour a few weeks ago and had a sip. CopperWorks gets their Wash from breweries (and just bought Pike Brewing), but sans the Hops, but I always wonder if the fact that the brewery has Hops in the facility, that that is ‘in the air’ as fermentation occurs even if it is not added. I believe Westward also uses brews their wash as “an artisanal American Ale”.
Had the Westland cask strength and got the Cannabis taste as well was a little off putting to me.
I can see how it can be off putting. It has a very distinct tinge to it. Cheers!
Thanks!
Thanks for the support. I have you down for 1 entry in July. Best of luck! Cheers!
surprised that you did not try it with a splash of water.
When I do my full review of it I will add water. This video was long enough as it is. Cheers!
Love these matchups with the both of you. 😂 very informative and entertaining. I now have a new appreciation for your parents as you were growing up.
Awww, thanks! We were raised by an amazing single mother! We just lost her in January and are still heavily grieving her loss. She was definitely a big part of who we are and the adults we have become. She would have been touched by your comment, so thank you! ❤
I have you down for another 2 entries for July. That bring you to 4 total in July. Appreciate our mother. She is the only parent we had going up. She did an amazing job! I miss her every day. Cheers!
@@mary-bridgetfasciano9970Didn't know that, I recall Peter mentioning his mother a few times. My sincere condolences for your loss.
@whiskeyisajourney and @mary-bridgetfasciano9970 sorry to hear of your recent loss. She must have been an incredible woman.
@@CA_Scotty Thank you. She was Super Woman! Had to be to put up with us!! 🤣
Fantastic bottle battle🥊. Absolutely love the Westward cask strength. I have not tried the Aberlour but have been very curious to try. I might pick it up now. Cheers!
Even though the Westward won the battle I still think the Aberlour is a great pour. Cheers!
I have been hearing good things about Westward. Great Vid
If you get a chance to try it I highly recommend it. Cheers!
I picked up a bottle of Little Bay at Costco for 45 and for the price I really like it. I'm just starting to build a collection and while I've drank whiskey for years I'm just getting to appreciating it neat and really tasting it To me Little Bay tastes like bananas with a chocolate-like undertone and a pinch of salt
Little Bay is good and at $45 it's even better. Chocolate and bananas are great notes to get. Cheers!
I wonder, with all the bottles around, would you be able to drink them all in one life time 😎
Not a chance. Especially with how little I actually drink. Cheers!
I bought this bottle as a vet who has also been to Afghanistan who wants to support fellow vets and their endeavors. The story behind it is also pretty cool with the Twin towers beam. I wasnt expecting much, but was really pleasantly surprised. To me, it tastes like eagle rare at 117 proof. Really yummy. Not sure if i have the older or newer bottle, but I like it. I think it should be priced more and on competition with Rare Breed though. A bit pricey for what it is. Especially since no taters are chasing it. In fact, I watch many bourbon hunts on KZread in which people consistently dodge this bottle.
I think it's a fantastic story. I want to see where they are in the 8-10 years.
@@whiskeyisajourney I’d like a 10 year BiB from them. I think that would be fantastic.
This review is why I am so hesitant to try a peated scotch. I am not even a fan of Johnnie walker and that’s just probably slight peat.
It's just my opinion, but I don't think you should base your peat experience off of this review. There are much better peated whiskeys out there. Port Charlotte, Long Row, Springbank is very lightly peated, Lagavulin 8 and 16, Ardbeg and Laphroaig.
You can’t begin to like something if you don’t try it. I don’t like peat, but I keep trying because eventually I will find one I like that may help me start my “peat journey.” Cheers!
great series, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
I like your reviews when you do them solo. They are more focused and useful.Thanks.
I know. My sister and I can get off the rails. I am trying to strike a balance. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Yea, its a skip for me as well. I wouldn't buy another one either. The price point isn't correct for these ok offerings. Have you ever had the 5 malt stouted mash? That is milk chocolate and fish skins lol
I am going to wait and see with these. The Historic Barrel Entry release was really good...this one not so much. Way to sell the 5 malt! No I have not had it and based on the fish skins notes I probably wont. Cheers!
