    the 25 mph is achievable but locked in the settings when you first get it, there is a guide to unlock it, to let you know ahead it allows upto 32 mph but you will never get close to that at most you will get 28-29 mph

  • @GristanGuinta

    Maybe with a lightweight rider it can reach 32. I’m sure adding an upgraded hub before building it together should be good. Though at that point you should just spend the extra few hundred dollars.

    @@GristanGuinta no it gets locked at 28-29 mph I tried with different sizes of people the lightest of us was 145 lbs and also tried with no rider same speed tried with no unneeded parts (rack, dirt catcher, lights, no horn/light buttons, basically anything I could take off that wasn't needed to function) and it still capped out at 28-29 mph

    Love the video, with one exception. Been using the 800/11 + RF1.4x for about 4 years now, & it's a great combination, BUT only with the 20-24Mp cameras, particularly the R6ii. Tried it (bare lens & +TC) with the R7 and it's not so good, simply because of the physics of small-aperture lenses: the diffraction limit of the R7 is around f/5.2, where the maximum resolution due to diffraction is the same size as a pixel. At f/11, the maximum resolution is about equivalent to the area of 4 pixels on the R7, and at f/16, with the 1.4x, about 9 (3x3) pixels, so any significant cropping will show some unsharpness; it's a bit like you are using an 8Mp & 4Mp APS-C camera respectively. Add to that the relatively poor high-ISO performance of the R7, and the f/11-16 becomes a real issue. The R7 is much better supported by the f/7.1 & sharpness of the 100-500, and the price of that lens now (if you look out for Canon sales) is only about 1.5x the price of the 800+TC.

  • @PPNJ
    @PPNJ18 күн бұрын

    Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback! It’s awesome to hear from someone who’s been using the RF 800mm f/11 lens and RF 1.4x extender for a while. I totally get what you’re saying about the R7 and the challenges with diffraction limits at smaller apertures. It’s true that the R7’s higher resolution can make these issues more noticeable, especially with significant cropping. And yeah, the high-ISO performance does play a big role too. I appreciate you mentioning the 100-500mm lens as a better fit for the R7. It's definitely something for folks to consider, especially since the price difference isn’t too huge if you catch a good sale. Thanks again for sharing your insights-it’s great to have this kind of discussion in the community!

    I can’t say for sure never shot with Nikon. I can say it being the native mount it will most likely perform perfectly. I’ve also had a lot of people on the channel say they use this lens on Nikon with no problems. I never had these issues until I started using it on the canon mirrorless R cameras. I think it’s more an issue on this specific mount.

    Hi. Love your channel... I need a camera for an arctic expedition cruise July 2025. I have time to decide what to get. I'm deciding between the R7 and R6ii and I've seen a lot of controversy surrounding the R7's auto focus delivering out of focus shots when shooting burst. I don't know if you've come across this issue. I'll need the most length and I know the R7 will deliver that. I'm also looking at the Nikon Z6ii/iii or Z7ii... Thoughts?

  • @PPNJ
    @PPNJАй бұрын

    Hello. I wouldn’t let the woes about the R7 stop you from getting it. I do feel the R6ii is a bit better but that’s not to say the R7 is bad whatsoever. You’ll have plenty of sharp shots and I don’t care what anyone says no camera hits 100% of the time. In my opinion it sounds like the R7 would work well for you. It really all depends if you go full frame you need long focal length lenses so it gets much more expensive. I really wouldn’t listen to people saying the R7 has auto focus issues though it doesn’t I use it all the time.

  • @barryinny
    @barryinnyАй бұрын

    @@PPNJ TY. I'm leaning towards the R7 for the extra focal length. It's all about the lenses really... The 100-500F4.5 is just too much $$ for a casual user like me, the 100-400F5.6 is 25% of the price. The 1.6 crop gets me another +240. I guess that will have to do - hopefully the polar bears are close enough!

  • @barryinny
    @barryinnyАй бұрын

    I'm going on an expedition Arctic trip July 2025 and realized I needed a camera LOL... My last real camera was a Canon F-1 bought in 1974. Anyway - I ordered and received a Sony 6700 on Friday. Literally took it out of the box and said what a p-o-s toy... I got big hands and it felt like one of those old Kodak throw away cameras they'd put on the table at weddings... Anyway, I'm returning it asap. I'm now looking at the R7 or R6M2. I know it's all about the range for shooting Polar bears in the arctic so lens selection is critical plus you get that extra mileage from the R7 (altho you could get an extender for the R6)? Also - i don't want to carry more than 2 lenses on the trip and definitely it will be a pain to swap lenses while on the move like in a moving Zodiac wanting to shoot my wife (literally) fairly close to me but also be able to grab distance shots of the elusive bear. SO - I'll definitely need a zoom that will do the job for me. What do you guys suggest for camera and lens? I want IBIS and great AF. This camera will basically become a hybrid I can use going forward for anything I'll ever need. PS: I have time to buy since I'm more than a year away but need a few months to get comfortable with the setup... Is there anything coming down the pike that would serve me better?

    I have both. I used the R7 for a long time to photograph motorcycles. One thing I don't see anyone talking much about is the handling, and the R6II's is far superior in my personal opinion. I Use both with an RF 100-500L. Currently I only use the R7 when I need more range and that's it. Within the range of the lens, the R6ii is superior in every way.

    All the stuff I talked about is true but don’t let that bother you if you got the R8. It’s more than capable of great macro shots. This stuff is only worth thinking about when comparing cameras. Your R8 will get the job done just fine. It’s about knowing what you have and how to use it to your advantage. Your R8 will do much better at high iso and you’ll be better adapted for natural light macro shots as well. No need to worry at all you made a good choice.

    Timely, given the questions arising about the RF 200-800mm lens. I have the RF 100-500mm and I have never had to question whether it would work on my R5 or R6 II, and have never doubted it will be sharp on both at all settings. Comments on the 200-800 include concerns it doesn’t focus well on the R6 II, concerns that it doesn’t focus on any camera from about 650mm on up, and of course comments from those who either think a soft image is just fine or are angry that anyone would say anything naughty about Canon. One commenter sent it to Canon and was told it had to be corrected for alignment. After that it was great. Some lenses arrive showing no problems, as was the case with the demonstrator lens I saw at a camera store event at Ace Photo in Ashburn, Va. Sounds like a quality control problem for a lens that has been delivered only in small lots of 30 to large stores or infinitesimal lots of five or six to smaller ones-at least in the United States.

    I’m not sure what you mean.
