    My question is: compression pucked & sifted vs wet screened to create same consistancy. AND measured out by weight to perform the same by weight. Does one perform better despite pucked is denser. And is one cleaner than the other?

    Thank you so much for the videos, we enjoy them very much. This time I think you got it wrong. Graphite slows down the burn, it does not provide added energy or improve burn rate or efficiency.

    Friend, the G stands for glazed. Not Graphite. Glazing is polishing the grains of the black powder. It also knocks off the edges. which makes for quicker ignition. Some people use a brass tumbler but they don't place the black powder in the tumbler. They sit a container on top and use the vibration to separate the fines out of a sieve and cause the grains to vibrate knocking off the edges and polishing the grains against each other. Peace.

    But it is used as a coating to inhibit moister. Did you miss the last video before this one. If you have Please watch it. I even read from the Scheutzen web site regarding swiss, It states swiss uses a heavy graphite glazing.

    @@lamebeavertradingco.1642 On websites you can read many myths. But if you want to thrust them it is you choice. Swiss is glazed in big wooden barrels for 24 hours without adding any graphite ! Highly gloss surface is product of this process. This glazed granules are to less attract moister and give higher bulk weight which you cant reach at home without this step.

    Over 50 years ago a fella in our gun club made BP which was dry greyish in color instead of the darker factory powder made by swiss or goex. I preferred using it as it seemed to ignite quicker than the factory brands. I figured it was because it did not have the glazed coating which seemed to me was there to protect it from moisture. The home made BP did collect moisture easier esp. in south Fla. On another note I was wondering how fine are your ingredients before milling. I run everything separately through a coffee mill till it is like talcum powder before weighing it. The powdered sulfer doesn't really need it as it is already quite powdery. I had not heard any of you guys mention doing that. My charcoals get an initial blending in an old vitamix blender. Takes a while for the dust to settle before you can even remove the lid.

  • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
    @lamebeavertradingco.16422 күн бұрын

    I don't screen the KN03, It gets pounded to dust in the tumbler , sulfur is is already fine enough, as I stated I do screen the charcoal.

  • @OhmSteader
    @OhmSteader2 күн бұрын

    @@lamebeavertradingco.1642 I did not think the tumbling in the milling process really pounded anything which is why I wanted to grind everything as fine as I could beforehand. Its so fine no screening is necessary before the tumbling. The finer everything is the better it will mix when milling. The burn is all about the good mix.

    My problems not the char or powder, it's the WHOLE day and full tank of fuel it takes me to field test and now the 110 plus deg Mojave? return home instant cleaning after a 300-mile drive. Gotta love the CDRCA Communist Democratic Republic of California? Just came up with a whole new way of safer, better milling. I mill the snot out of my Char(bannana stems) with sulfur ratioed safe! once 2 of 3 are milled to beejebus, I also very safely PUCK my 2 of 3, and mill again. Sulfur is plastic under PSI I can store forever safe with peace of mind. once needed I add my KNO3 in H2O 90 or 70% alcohol solution wet mill. dry and WOW! Next I will try similar but add 4 or 5% by weight diesel, or kerosene? for humidity, dust control and hopefully the "dieseling affect"

    Hey man ive got a question i recently traded for a hawken rifle it had previously had a bullet stuck in it i have the bullet turns out it was sabotted bullet the sabot was still in the gun with something behind it since i knew itwas just a sabot and would cause any harm i put a cap on the gun and fired it the resulting boom scared the bejesus out of me but when checking the barrel i noticed something odd the fouling smelt sulphury but it wasnt a dry fouling it was damp is this normal i didnt notice any smell that would indicate any sort of lubricant was used when the previous owner extracted the bullet thanks for any information you may be able to provide i have videos of the hawken resoration on my channel also ive never fired real black powder because it just isnt available here

    I get very confused when trying to purify. Is all that crystalizes considered pure. When I separate the liquid and let it set it too will crystalize. I am starting with 13-0-46 granular potassium nitrate fertilizer. It all shoots quite well weather I make it with bamboo, grape , banana peel or ash. I make sure all my material for char is very dry before charing it. Pretty much the same as when I used to make "Bio-char" I was told to keep the temp at 800° for 3 hours. I do not measure or know the temp of my char for BP. I put the wood in a stainless container and lay it on or to the side of coals in my wood heater for 4-8 hours depending on how hot its running. Thanks again.

  • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
    @lamebeavertradingco.16427 күн бұрын

    According to some, it is pure. There will always be some crystals left behind in the water. When I use to nitrate coffee filters for paper cartridges, after the water evaporated on the table I laid them out to dry, I would sweep the crystals into a glass jar to reuse later. Regarding the char making, from what you state I assume you do not alter the container to get a more even charring??. I do my charring with a gas flame during the day so that I can watch it and control the burn rate and I can rotate the can to get a more ever burn. Hope this helps alittle.

    One thing I had to do on both my 1851 and 1860 Army was to ream out the chambers and use an oversize ball. on the 51 .36 caliber I had to ream it to .375 so .375 balls no longer worked. I bought a mold for .380 ball and it was a world of difference. strangely the little 1862 came very close to a bore/chamber match at .374 .373+ respectively soooo I can use the .375 ball to start which is good since I have like 250 of em lol. we shall see. I might just run the .380 balls eventually tho since I do make paper cartridges for the 1851 Navy and it would be nice to use only one size. so I will try to fit the paper cartridge that I already have.

    Good theory. Easy enough to test your theory. If 70g by vol of Swiss is 74g by weight. Then shoot 74g by weight of schuetzen and compare velocity. Then shoot 72g by weight of schuetzen with 2g by weight of graphite mixed in and check velocity. You also are missing other factors like mill time between swiss and schuetzen can be different. Jake just showed that matters a lot.

  • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
    @lamebeavertradingco.164212 күн бұрын

    I don't know what Jake is doing, I quit watching his videos when he came after me and accused me of changing his formula when I tested his 77/13/10 and got slower speeds through my chrono. I must note I used 77/13/11. One extra gram of sulfur would only add to a more complete burn, as I have consistently shown. As for long mill times, Go back on this channel, and you will note I mill my powder between 24 to 30 hours. Until recently my mill process changed, I am now using a mill container with ledges or steps inside to throw the ball in stead of just rolling through the powder, and I adjusted the speed of my ball mill to turn faster. Jake sometime back mentioned that himself. It does compact quicker, but when compacted and the media is setting on top of the powder I break it all up and continue the process further. I am getting long mill times.

    It has been brought to awareness that the longer a BP is milled the higher the velocity. SO it would stand to reason the longer it is glazed would also improve the sheen and possibly speed.

    I have never owned one of these that I actually found use for. I love Remington's and have bought them all over the years including every version and make of the '63 in brass, nickle, steel Pietta, ASM, and the other defunct one? can't remember the maker, but was a short lived Italian maker. Like the Remington carbine I've sold them all except for one newer steel one I bought to convert to 32 S&W, but performance was so bad I sold the conversion cylinder after the first test. As soon as a trade comes my way the last steel framed one is gone as well...unless I decide to line it and convert it to .22...IDK. Hopefully you'll have better luck with yours and find a use for it.

You have play around with it a bit to find that notch. Rather a pain in the tush, but it does work. I did fire .32 cal. out of her and they performed lousy. And the front sight blade fell out it's lost. Not my favorite BP gun. .
