The problem is that gege isn’t writing to tell his feeling or thoughts or ideas. He writes for his own ego to look cool. Tales that he writes what he hates, are contradictory to what he was saying and how he was writing Also i don’t think it turned into generic shonen- it turned into a masturbation on cool ideas and cool fights and darkness instead of executing it well.

I think Urahara knew that the balance of the world needed the soul long as a keystone, same as ichibe. If that was lost, then the world was likely to collapse. Even if he didn’t know exactly what would happen, I think he figured the risk was too great. Thats why he looked into a way to disrupt the balance but decided to stop going that direction.

On chapter 50 , when ichigo defeated the menos grande, the read haired boy in urahara shop's attacked a fly, later in the chapter 390+ it is revealed that aizen used that fly to spy on him. Even kisuke looks at the fly mysteriously hinting he knew it was aizen. This one doesn't get much noticed Ichigo bedsheets in chapter 1 looks like quincy cross In sajin vs tosen fight , sajin says he would have a hole in his heart if tosen died During ichigo bankai training mentions that only that one blade can defeat him and after 500 chapters later ichigo uses that sword to defeat yuha

at first i was gonna ask "if Ichibei sealed his name in the past, how... or rather: when, did he get his name back?" but i think we know the answer. 9 years ago from start of series. although this would seem to suggest his name should've been audible to Ichigo, perhaps since OMZ is only a piece of Yuhabaha, he couldn't regain his name. he's not as powerful as the original, so he couldn't regain his name unlike the original. this makes a lot more sense than Ichibei erasing it in the future, somehow effecting himself in the past. 6:41 there are different translations of this scene. i've seen "human and..." & "shinigami and...". iirc, the anime chose "human and...". this makes more sense to me. up to this point, he didn't know much about his parents. he didn't know where his latent Shinigami powers came from. and i doubt Aizen would've wanted to let him in on the secret of his mother. so when his father shows up revealing himself to be a Shinigami, it confirms that his mother was indeed human.

  • @__Kumo

I dunno, bleach hinted at ichigo's quincy origins in chapter 1 with his bedspread, arrancars were shown in like 2 panels of chapter 25 before being introduced like 150 chapters later, and like 200 chapters later we actually see that full arrancar who we only see kind of behind grand fisher in 25, and he fights ishida in the start of the hueco mundo arc. The start of the SS arc introduced the Shiba clan, Rukia made a comment about ichigo's resemblance to kaien early on, ganju looks like his dad, kukaku looks like an adult karin, providing an early hint at ichigo's dad's origins and his soul reaper heritage. There's a bunch more as well, some only kubo would be able to confirm if they were references back to a panel, or of the first panel was actual foreshadowing.

Personally for me, it's Bleach, but either Bleach or AOT takes it here. Bleach has solid and consistent foreshadowing all throughout the series with moments from the very beginning of the series foreshadowing the very end. Most of the stuff OP fans call god tier foreshadowing is just reaches tbh. For instance, I wouldn't call Luffy being happy after getting his fruit foreshadowing. I doubt Oda even knew what Gear 5 was when he began OP.

There are random moments Luffy's attacks would burst into flames, hinting at him being more than just a rubberman. For that matter, even gear 3 and 4 don't really make that much sense even for a rubber person.

Really good video. Only thing I would say is that in the case of Yumichika that was actually his true Shikai, not a Bankai as he intentionally calls his Zanpakuto by the wrong name so it won't fully release. You could also say that bleach foreshadowed the Zanpakuto if you follow the idea that maybe Yumichika calling his Shikai the wrong name could have foreshadowed Renji's true Bankai as Renji called his Bankai the wrong name for the majority of bleach until tybw.

@@__Kumo Fair enough. One interesting thing to note is that a lot of the foreshadowing examples you used demonstrate that the author had certain plot points planned out from very early one. Take the scene where zangetsu tries to say his name or in one piece where luffy and zoro refers to Blackbeard as “they”, hinting at his pirate crew. However, BC foreshadowing rewards attentive viewers as to the nature of the massive war arc and the later introduction of devils, all of which are major plot points, and not just new characters or hidden relationships.

Attack on titan has probably a hundred more, Some simple ones that come to mind are: * Two example of aforementioned Reiner Gang interactions: Reiner saying "let them gather" when annie asks him what they were going to do, Annie apologizing after killing Marco. * There's an Info screen saying the walls extended beneath the ground during the story of a miner. * Zeke Playing with the Ape toy before receiving the Beast titan. * Ksaver's Ram Titan is foreshadowed with a toy on the Shelf. * Jean calling Eren a suicidal bastard who will lead them all into hell, We know how that one turned out:). * When reiner catches Ymir being able to read the tin can, he knows what a herring is despite it being a salt water fish hinting that he has knowledge of the saltwater fishes and the sea. * Eren swearing he'll kill all the titans and in the end accomplishing that. * Annie slips on the ring when Armin approaches her, At this point, the viewer doesn't know what's going on with our gang. * Jean's Mother complex: Watch Reddrik's Jean video * Eren saying He'll burn down the entire world in s1 finale. (Anime only) * Bertlolt theorising that the person who commits suicide in the village wanted to be judged hinting at the reason why Reiner feels depressed. * Erwin holding back Levi from his squad and telling him he needs him to finish off the Beast Titan. * Pixis saying "Humanity will come together in the face of an existential threat to itself" and Eren becoming that. * Erwin asking Nile about his wife who lives in the walled city of wall rose, and tells him who gets to choose. * Floch explaining his reason why Erwin must be chosen "Only a Demon can destroy the titans and we need one", You know where he's going, you just know who the demon is. * Both the top fighters being named Ackerman with a third who's ultra capable.

Deep lore regarding 6:15 - when the chapter came out in the magazine, the line in Japanese was "a Shinigami and a-", which is the screencap used in this video and definitely hints at a reveal about Masaki. In the volumes, this was changed to "a human and a-", which makes it feel like he was just going to reveal Isshin's true identity. My guess is that Kubo regretted dropping such a large hint and decided to cover it up under the pretense of it being bad wording before the fans cracked the secret years before the proper payoff. Similarly, many fans immediately called that there was a connection between Zangetsu and Yhwach due to their designs, which is why Kubo doesn't bring it up until it's time for the reveal and then writes it as Ichigo being in denial about the similarity instead of being blindsided. Normal foreshadowing would have made it too clear. It's the kind of thing that can feel weird outside of the serialization.

9:03 *Over 1 million years ago, as that's the age of the seperation. Also, Yhwach is relatively young, as far as most of the older characters go. He's around 2,000+ years old, exacts aren't known, but he was definitely far younger than Yamamoto in that time period. Yamamoto created the Shinigami/Soul Reaper Academy 2,100 years before the start of the series. By then, he was already appearing as a middle-aged man, which implies he was perhaps multiple millenia old by this time. I've seen it estimated to be 6,000-ish years at the maximum, but it's all up to just guessing. Anyways, Yhwach is way too young to ever have relation to the events of 'The First Sin' itself, moreso just wanting to free his father from imprisonment _long_ after it happened. 8:05 *The connection here isn't to Aizen, it's to himself. Just like how Komamura's words to Tosen became reality for him, the same applies here. When Nemu's body is destroyed by Pernida, Mayuri for the first time in the series falls into shock and despair, at the loss of his creation. 'Szayelapporo' (aka, his conscious) comes to chastize him for this, mocking him for believing deep down that Nemu was a perfect being, because he created her. He even throws Mayuri's own words back in his face.

Great video, but I'm surprised you didn't mention the volume poems. Not only are they a cool addition and help highlight characters, some of them help understand the series better. For example, I think the poems from Volumes 5 and 8 foreshadows Ichigo's character arc for most of the series. Both conflate power with blades. Vol. 5's shows Ichigo's desire to protect others and his fear of his hollow throughout the story. Vol. 8's poem hints at the Vasto Lorde transformation, since Ichigo couldn't control his hollow so he had to fight Zangetsu later, and his pride was damaged by beating Ulquiorra that way, so he subsequently had trouble hollowfying. I think Volume 25's poem takes the cake, as it feels like it explains the series' themes best. "We are all Born dead. The end exists Before anything begins. If living Is a constant quest for awareness, The awareness we gain at the end is the real goal. In other words, death Is the discovery and complete understanding Of the end. We are not permitted to seek awareness. Those that cannot transcend death Will not find awareness in anything." The first stanza clearly illustrates the cycle of life and death Soul Reapers uphold. The second and third stanza conflate death and enlightenment, which makes sense, since the end of a person's life would likely be a moment of perfect clarity and reflection. But, also consider the fact that the Soul King, the God of the series, *is literally a corpse.* The final stanza sets it in stone by saying that by not transcending death, or rather, not accepting the inevitability of death, you won't be aware of anything; showing how Yhwach wanted to eliminate death but didn't realize that an endless existence wouldn't be as meaningful as a finite one, as Aizen explained in the final chapter. Anyways, I've gone on too long, once again great video.

I enjoy your approach and highlighting the fact that people don’t talk as much specifically about how well woven the foreshadowing of bleach is narratively and why it serves the story well. Personally I also enjoyed the part where you mentioned why Urahara made mod souls and with the logic of the bleach universe it makes logical sense to make an artificial substitute soul and infuse them with the hogyoku to replace the soul king. If you think about it, even though Kona’s fears are out paced now think about how strong mod souls are. They have very powerful bodily motor skills and increase the durability of any body they’re used on, which would be valuable traits for a body being strong enough to withstand housing the hogyoku without being torn apart. Maybe even the intended lack of emotion and being made for general subservience would be a perfect vessel for the hogyoku because they wouldn’t feel fear or other emotions the Hogyoku might reject. Another example of perhaps similar technology that lends further credence to the potential for how much stronger artificial souls could be would be Nemu who was created by mayuri. Nemu is depicted as very powerful through soul society, hueco Mindi and TYBW to the point she’s basically lieutenant level. Imagine if she or a captain level hypothetical artificial soul had the hogyoku. A strong Gigai, Mod Soul, and the Hogyoku is a pretty astute hypothesis for replacing the soul king and it’s just another reason why Urahara is that guy.

I think that Yhwach to some extent is also a victim of his circumstances. When Yhwach was born he was completely motionless. He was born with the ability to split his soul. Everyone who received a portion of Yhwach’s soul was said to feel whole again. Upon their death, the piece of his soul with the person’s knowledge, powers and feelings returned to him. Ever since his birth Yhwach is forced to feel the deaths of all the souls that return to him. All Yhwach seems to feel is sadness and sorrow. He’s incapable or ignorant of people who find peace or a happy life without his influence. So he came to the deranged conclusion that if he’d remove the concept of death invented by the soul reapers. He’d be finally at peace. In other words it would be quiet because people don’t die anymore. With all the powers he built up throughout the centuries, why wouldn’t he turn the world upside down. This why I always saw Yhwach as a consequence of the origin sin. A inevitable for of nature. Like out sun that will eventually burn out, swallow Merkur and Venus and turn our planet earth into a piece of coal. That’s the fate of all stars. Even if Ichigo and Aizen never set one foot into the seireitei. The Quincies would have wreaked the place one way or another.
